Jacob Young againnnnnnnn

It getting to the crazy stage..... Baker and Harper could throw up brick after brick and then Young could rim out a 3 pointer and people will start yelling why did take that shot?

He is a high risk, high reward kind of player. Not as talented (by far) as Sanders but he probably have a year where you head scratching plays followed by big 3 point plays when he beats his man off the dribble to score a big basket.
High risk, agree. High reward? What is this you speak of?

Young was right in Winston's grill. He was driving him nuts. Hopefully he can do that to Powell on Saturday. His second half was outstanding. A lot of guys contributed little. Harper, Geo, Myles and McConnell all were off their games. Every game it is other guys. No one is perfect every game. We need everyone to contribute in both of our home games this week as we need to get two wins. GO RU!!!

Driving, beating his man and getting into the lane. High chance for a foul and made foul shots. Getting opposing players to come over also opens up the rebound attempt by others. And....as he continues to drive, more shots will start to fall.

No one else has the ability to do those things...except Mathis.

Maybe you prefer 4 guys on the perimeter passing the ball around for 20 seconds for a last second shot as the clock winds down.

One of the biggest issues with the Pikiell era is the lack of speed at the guard spots... driving to the basket. The 21 class has to address it when Geo, Young and Kiss are replaced.

He will be a hot topic all year because he will contribute at times with on ball defense and scoring, whether it be from the line, getting into the lane drawing attn which sets up a putback, etc. Unfortunately there will be many wtf drives, especially as teams lay off him outside and he forces penetration. Similar to Mathis where good things do sometimes happen with ability to get into lane, but there always those throw your arms up moments as well with Mathis when he's out of control. I think that is who Young is. On a quality Big Ten team he comes off the bench.

Geo and Ron are not buying in enough on the defensive end. Caleb has confidence problems right now. Paul is a terrible defensive liability. Almost by default we need Montez and Jacob out there.

Right now, today, we are a bad basketball team. Jacob might have had his best game today, but you can't have the guy who has the ball in his hands the most lack vision. Watching him today was a flashback to Corey Sanders days. He made some plays, but you cant win playing like that.
Only wish Young is half the player Corey was. That is what this team is missing , a guy that will take over a game, and no one on the other team can stop and win you games. Corey played an awesome game at MSU 2 years ago when Geo was a freshman and if his last second shot , that rimmed out at the horn goes in we win. Instead lost in OT. Geo and Jacob are welcomed to step up and neither is close to Corey in any aspect of their game.

He's no Mathis.

He won 7 B1G games in 3 years. Everyone remembers the every 5th game where he carries the team. What about 4 out of 5 where he shot bad percentages and didn’t involve the other 4 guys on the court.

I am fairly confident in saying he had, at worst, equal talent in his 3 years compared to what we have now.

I agree 100% Jacob isn’t nearly as good as Corey was, but watching when he has the ball in his hands I have flashbacks to the days when our offense was among the worst in D1 basketball. That includes all conferences.

Get better glasses. Corey could not be guarded one on one and the other team had to hope he had an off day shooting. Made me laugh at your line about he having equal talent? Are you serious.? Corey was our only talented player. The centers where non existent. Myles is an absolute beast when he stays out of foul trouble, he can go on the block and score and he is a willing passer when doubled . Myles is our best rebounder on both offensive and defensive boards and it isn’t close and a rim protector. Harper and Yeboah are good shooting forwards that can drive and score and get to the line. Remind me who we had that could do that with Corey ? We also have Geo and Caleb and Montes that should all be considered threats to score. Corey had Mike Williams , who we all thought would be that consistent three point shooter that never materialized but Mike gave us rebounding , defense and toughness. Plus this team has Paul that can give Geo or Jacob a break at the point. Corey couldn’t come out of the game because the other guys and I will not mention names couldn’t handle the ball. Plus he played defense . I wish we had 5 Corey’s on his team right now.

Whatever...we don't have a player on this team that comes close to the talent Freeman was....not even close. I posted somewhere the roster the last 3 years. There was talent.

Not sure why people can't remember what the median or average performance from Corey was. Stats bear how bad our offense was. We were so EASY to defend. Teams wanted the ball in Corey's hands. When he got in to the lane he would not pass it...it was a given. Corey leaves and our offense goes from 283rd to 145th.

Corey's 3 point shooting
freshman 31.5%
sophomore 26.9%
junior 22.1%

Try again.

Myles is more talented and does more than Freeman without the ball sticking . He is a better and more willing passer out of the post, a better rim protector and shot blocker and an equal defender . Deshawn sho foul shots better but he was not automatic down low. He got offensive putbacks just like Myles . Corey was much more talented than Deshawn, why don’t you ask all the Big 10 coaches that had to game plan for him

The guy won 7 B1G in his career. We won 7 years in 1 year when he left. That's really all you need to know.
Our roster sucked with Corey here and he had to do it alone most nights with help from Deshawn . Last year’s roster had our 4 freshman give us more in 1 year than any of our players gave Corey in 3 years.

Sorry Corey had a supporting cast. He had Baker and he had Freeman.

Gameplan was easy. Real easy. Corey will get to the rim and you can bring help because he will not pass despite having a guy who can finish.

We were ranked 280th in offense. That is beyond pathetic.

Geo had an excellent freshman year but in conference he did next to nothing, then he got sick near years end, then miraculously got better and had a great Big 10 tourney. If we only had that Geo this year we would be undefeated. For most of the year Geo was not much of a help. What about the rest of the roster ? Did you forget about them? What were their scoring averages ?

Sanders was 21-95 from 3. In 3 years he digressed. In college basketball you can’t be a star and have the ball in your hands and be that bad of a shooter.

Sanders
Baker
Williams/Issa
Freeman
Eugene
Ok , what did Issa, Williams and Gene give you offensively ? Who was the guard backing up Corey that could give him a blow ? What happened when Corey and Baker had to come out for a blow or were in foul trouble? Who were you putting in and who was going to do the scoring ?

Issa shot 38% from 3.
Baker was Corey’s back up. Baker has no one last year.
Eugene turns in to a stud when Corey leaves

Greene , I love your persistence but one reason we never got over the hump is that Issa and Mike Williams never hit the threes consistently and not in conference play despite Corey dishing the ball to them time after time . I was clamoring for Issa or Mike to hit 6 threes a game between them but they hardly ever did . Guess what? If they would have we would have won a lot more games. Rutgers has been missing a consistent 3 point shooter since Douby. We haven’t found one yet and something holding back this team this year. It is ironic , because we had great three point shooters going back before Douby, in Jerome Coleman, Ricky Shields, Rob Hodgson , Jeff Billet and Donnell Lumpkin to name some of the best shooters in our history .
Finally, Eugene’s freshman year he could barely score and hold onto the ball.
