Jay Williams has Withdrawn from Consideration

Comical. He chased this job from the get go. If no one is named tomorrow Lonergan may be your guy since he is still coaching in the NIT and cannot be named until his season is over.

Don't you have to be in consideration to withdraw from consideration. Give me a break Jay, must have been memories of the naked free throws that made him reconsider.

"Withdrawing one's name from consideration" is a nice and polite way of giving the known candidates a way of saving face before the real selection is announced. Don't be shocked if this was the case with Hurley too. I'm not saying he wasn't a serious candidate or one of the top choices. However since it was so widely publicized that he was in conversation with Hobbs about the job, how much of a put down would it be to announce the choice without giving Hurley (or Williams) an opportunity to "withdraw from consideration"? This is likely to be the case with local candidates that the AD may know well on a personal basis.

Don't think he was under serious consideration and he wanted more to save face by withdrawing himself

Count me in as well, err I mean out. Plus I would like to thank all my players from my 8th grade travelling team for their letters of support.

Now with the next coaching opening, Jay is a guy RU considered before they hired X.

I already received a text from buddies saying "RU dissed" after Hurley withdrew. Can't wait for the next text now.

IMO it's gonna be the Seawolves coach. He fits exactly what Rutgers can do right now.

I am more shocked at the fact that a few fans here were supporting him as head coach...... Granted not a lot, but still.........

Just the fact that men like Williams and Ellerbe, both unqualified, thought they might have a chance shows how little some think of our program that they would be a serious candidate

Can we get Boyle to announce withdrawal from consideration so we can put a stop to those idiotic stories too?

Although you can't have too many withdrawl's without it coming across as if there is an 'issue' with the position. (whether there really is or not)

OK ... given the near-zero probability of being in the position of receiving an offer for the job,
this is sort of like ....
Rick Perry / Chris Christie / Lindsey Graham / Ben Carson / Marco Rubio ...has withdrawn his name from consideration for the GOP nomination.

This is basically
"Thank you for this dance, it was lovely ... and ... I will now go get a glass of punch and sit down and watch the rest of the proceedings"

Rutgers is no fool these guys Hurley and Williams did not make the final CUT. the job went to the better coach who has posted a better record

As Our future HC is coaching tonight against Kentucky as the Kentucky media has repeatedly said here in Lexington, "After the game against Stony Brook they will lose their HC to Rutgers"

Withdrawing as well, and suspending my campaign for the GOP nomination at the same time.

Likely to get creamed by Kentucky tonight--would lead to a tough introduction here for Pikiell. 11 seasons at Stony B and not moving up all this time is a red flag to me.

I will not withdraw my name. As I told Hobbs, I am working very hard to learn to dribble a basketball and look up at the same time. He is going to have to go to the media and explain why I am not the choice. Until I am told I am not the guy there is a glimmer of hope.

He did this, because HE was told he is no longer being considered. It's called saving face.

Anyone that can earn more "likes" than posts on this Board merits serious consideration.

So how long before we realize that EJ may have been better than what we are going to be able to get out there?
WRONG! This time we're going to hire a coach that can succeed on the college level and actually teach basic fundamentals like defense, rebounding, blocking out, passing and BB IQ.

Rick Pittino and Shaka Smart have also announced they are withdrawing from consideration. Darn, I really wanted one of those two.:sunglasses:

funny--some act like he was "considered"--wrong word--he was "mentioned"
