Jay Wright talks about almost being RU Coach

yes the biggest knock on Jay of late was really the inability to get deep in the tourney. We would love that here but you almost wondered if he reached his ceiling. This year truly has proven that Jay has done a phenomenal job with this program and stepping up as the Big East has transitioned from dominant conference to just a very good conference. Consider they didnt play all that well vs Kansas and still frustrated the Jayhawks. The best thing they did was lose that BE tourney final

It's amazing at how well-rounded they are as a team. They can beat you in any number of ways. Today, their shooting was lights out and they had spectacular guard play. They also have a few bigs who can rebound with the best of them and really can pass the ball on both the outlet and in an offensive setting. They are actually a pleasure to watch when they are playing well.

However, I have not idea why Jay kept the big man in with a bum ankle when you're up 30+ in the second half.

disagree...Nova dwarfs Seton Hall in everything starting with the value of the degree. Their boosters have more money, they can shell out all they want on basketball plus they have the Philly angle they can sell. NYC doesnt care about Seton Hall and even NJ seems indifferent to them.
I agree Nova is better than SHU in all ways......but just a better pattern on the same cut of cloth
and I wouldnt trade my Rutgers degree for either

I base a lot on $$$...I went to Cornell undergrad for less than it costs to go to Nova(or SHU)

remember it took Wright a few years to have success at Nova...There were people here that wanted Waters fired after year 3...very vocal contingent..all he did was have RU on the bubble two of 3 years, they would have called for Wright to be canned too...and if Wright got RU to the NCAA, he most likely would have ended up at Nova or somewhere else anyhow

In Wrights second or third season he almost had multiple transfers until they turned it around mid season. The alumni at fully support their program.

Did you say Waters had us on the bubble 2 of three years?

They didn't win it in 71 but made the ff.
And The Nova's name was erased forever from that tourney by the NCAA. Ironic if the Cuse & NC receive the same fate for this tourney. Nah, they're to big to,fail.

Not enough money to go around at the time. If he didn't upgrade football we'd be stuck in the AAC right now. I don't think you would consider that as being in great shape. Hell the man got fired for that upgrade alone. The Star Liar probably would have had him thrown in jail if he tried to upgrade basketball as well.
Oh I'm grateful that football was upgraded, but there was still money to be spent on BB and that's not where uncle Bob had any allegiances to the program. He was fired because he couldn't fend off Zoffinger and the political clout he had with the BOG.

I don't recall Waters having us on the bubble in two of three years, but I get your point. We both know that Waters made the mistake of not bringing in some staff from NJ to recruit. Never mind Fred Hill, was brought in and we know how that turned out.

I think after nearly 30 years of running the athletic department as a mom and pop store and treating it like we're somehow permanently stuck in the Patriot League, I firmly believe we have turned the page for good and the athletic department seems to be running like a real D-1A athletic department for the first time ever.
