Jimmy V Court @ The Barn

I might be in the minority, but I do not believe the court should have been named for Jimmy V. While I applaud ESPN and all of the great strides that the Jimmy V foundation does for cancer research(including Bobby Lloyd), I was not in favor of naming the court for him.

While I personally found him very refreshing when I met him in person 2 times, I feel that this is kind of a knee-jerk sympathy naming.

There are other players/coaches that are just as deserving if they wanted to name the court after anyone.

Just my thoughts from someone that has been connected to RU basketball for a long time.

Best of Luck,
Groz

It's not like they named the RAC court after him. Don't think Bob Lloyd would be offended.

What about The Mike Rice ball thrower?

Why not name the RAC court after him? we really dont have many stand out names that the present day fans can associate with

You name the RAC after whoever pays millions for the naming rights. Otherwise you don't name it for anyone else other than a coach that digs us out of this hole to glory and sticks around with loyalty when the big dogs come calling.

It's just the floor at the Barn not an arena. There's a dedication ceremony on April 29 (Rutgers Day) for the court naming. Invitation to attend emailed to "Rutgers Basketball Supporters and Fans" by Rutgers Athletics today.

Valvano family and Rutgers greats to attend ceremony.

absolutely cannot name the RAC court after CVS...what title has she brought to RU...this isn't the same as Pat Summit...she built on what Grentz built here and now it has come crashing down with a last-place finish...is that $1 million per win for her?

If I'm Hobbs I go to her, TODAY:

"Retire now and we'll honor you with your name on the court."

Perfect solution for all!
Maybe not an appropriate question for this forum but that's what I do. We've had several former players and assistant coaches go off to success at other Universities. Is there someone on the current staff that is a strong candidate to move up to be the Head Coach or is Mr Hobbs headed out to recruit another (hopefully) Steve Pikiell?

I agree with Groz.

Hopefully there is, bottom line, the game has passed her by, dozens if not hundreds of programs have passed us by, and she's paid a small fortune.

When C-Viv retires, I think RU will name the court at the RAC after her. Would be a nice touch for our hall of fame coach in my opinion.
Sure, what's some paint cost compared to the millions she has cost the university.

Not a fan of court-naming in general. Someone better might come along. :) Hey, I can hope.

I agree with Groz.
Me too.

If CVS gets the opportunity to go 6-24 again next season then there is something rotten in the state of Denmark.

Put down graphics that can be pulled up and changed. For example, NEW ERA.

Why not keep it versatile and up to change? To go all in on any of these suggestions might not be so wise.

Cvs court, omg for stealing millions from RU?
Stealing is a bit harsh. TitleIX is the real thief there. CVS is a great, HOF coach who maybe should have retired. We'll see soon enough if her run as a great coach is truly over. If so, it will be a case of an all-time great who should have retired and stayed too long and thus ruined her legacy. if that is the case, each remaining year she stays makes naming the court after her less and less desirable.
