Joe Girard 2019 Recruit

St. John's and Oklahoma just offered him and Mullin went up to Albany to see him a few weeks ago.

But yes Michigan has a deep connection. Beilein coached Girard's father in college, LeMoyne.
As sure as the sun comes up mich appears after a few good wins. It's unreal.

while Michigan has the serious family ties to him, he's also recently been offered by Syracuse, Ohio State, and Oklahoma so no shortage of relatively big timers coming after him.

I don't quite know how his skill set will translate to college. I mean he's clearly an elite shooter and that will carry over, but is he more an all around scoring machine or is he more of a 3rd or 4th option that just stands there and gets 10 PPG when others draw help off him? His HS stats are bonkers, although level of competition not the best.

I suspect in the end he'll be an elite shooter and good overall player at a major conference level.

His fit is almost perfect for what Michigan has been known for.

I would be surprised if he doesn't go there.

Picked up offer from Duke and a few other big time programs.

as crazy and corrupt as Big Time college athletics and recruiting has become...and since it is becoming more and more like semi-pro..... in my fantasy world teams would be limited to recruiting in some manner like pro teams are with salary caps. maybe based on stars or some other avg. value assigned per player. also factored in some penalty based on how long a prior player/class stayed in school as well (since the NCAA cares so much about education lol).

@1984 i think if there’s a model for schools playing kids, the way it should work is that each school would have 1 or 2 slots where players could receive a share of marketing value on ads they’re on, jersey sales of his number, etc. this would spread out the top guys a bit more.

I don’t necesarily buy into any of what I said, but just a supporting concept for your fantasy world.

Block - He may have mentioned it himself during his interview. He is comparable to Gerry McNamara when he was at Syracuse. Just an excellent overall player. Folks tend to underestimate him simply because he is a great shooter. Many think - he can shoot, but intuitively respond - he cannot do much else. They are mistaken. He is simply an excellent ballplayer. He can do it all.

Wouldn't be a bad choice either----great coach , great program ,great school.

Word is the Antoine kid from Ranney is a Duke lean.

Notre Dame likes the kid, been watching him for a while. Girard took an unofficial visit there last fall. Kid is tough and a leader, played up on City Rocks 17U team

Kind of kid who will go to ND and absolutely kill it for them as a backup then 2-year starter.

Like players used to do & get a degree? We can't have that happening in the 21st century lol

Actually it would be great to see that happening more often, but rosters turnover much faster these days

Hahaha I didn't mean it that way but agree nonetheless!
