Guess this would mean AA is done with competition ?Initials AA
Bo proved that.Guess this would mean AA is done with competition ?
Why!!!!If AA goes to Princeton, that's a pretty big slap in the face to RU. Now if the NJ legend is Suriano?? That makes a small amount if sense. He has burned some bridges, tried to extend his career with some road blocks, and might be looking for a full time job somewhere.
Why what?? I thought that was pretty self explanatory. Why!!!!
So, we have Pollard and they get Ashnault. You really can't see why some would be upset. I'm sure Pollard's a great guy but the comparison between the two stops there. Why!!!!

That’s part of it with Winston but another thing is he was so much more developed both physically and on his feet growing up ( I wrestled him in middle school and hs) and it caught up to him a bit in college.Everybody is really strong and good on their feet in D1 he just may have reached his peak and then I think the injuries sapped his confidence. I agree an ncaa champ in the room or an AA to scrap with everyday may have helped him sharpen his mat wrestling which I think would’ve been a difference maker for him but i can tell you as someone competing and looking at colleges to wrestle at the time that when he committed to Rutgers every wrestles thought process changed. Rutgers went from an after thought to something real right away.Winston is easy to explain even if you forget about injuries. He was the first real recruit this program brought in and the room was light compared to what it is today. Winston probably didn’t develop to his full potential because he didn’t have the bodies to push him to it. However we’re not the program we are today if he doesn’t come here so it’s impossible to fault him at all.
Aragona just met some adversity and didn’t respond well to it. Eventually chose the path of his girlfriend over the sport which is his choice. I think he’s a big reason why Goodale has said he’s only recruiting kids who treat wrestling as a lifestyle, not just a sport they’re good at.
How is it a slap in the face. Rutgers didn't have a vacant position available for AA. I'm glad he's coaching in NJ I get to go see him coach. Metcalf and St. John both coach at Iowa St not at Iowa. Why what?? I thought that was pretty self explanatory.
I'll take Pollard all day.So, we have Pollard and they get Ashnault. You really can't see why some would be upset. I'm sure Pollard's a great guy but the comparison between the two stops there.
That original class created so much original buzz around the RU program… ranked #2 overall class recruit … had #2 Winston, #17 Melde and a whole bunch of NJ state champs… everyone back then believed RU woulda became a instant powerhouse if we kept the top NJ talents in…young and wide eyed… seemed like we were a sleeping giant destined to be awaken… little did we know how much harder it would actually be..That’s part of it with Winston but another thing is he was so much more developed both physically and on his feet growing up ( I wrestled him in middle school and hs) and it caught up to him a bit in college.Everybody is really strong and good on their feet in D1 he just may have reached his peak and then I think the injuries sapped his confidence. Idk if Goodale ever gets it going and Rutgers ever ascends to where you guys are now without Winston leading the way in that first class
The Ashnault family was all about RU. AA leaves Rutgers/SKWC, goes to a nearby club to train and the general feeling here was there was/is something going on between AA and RU. You are certainly in the know more than most on this board, share a good amount with us which I'm thankful to you but obviously there are plenty more things you know that we don't. It would seem to me if AA wanted to be at RU/SKWC, Rutgers would bend over backwards to have him involved. He is Rutgers royalty...or maybe he doesn't want to be involved for his own reasons. He has distanced himself from RU and now sounds likely going to a local rival. I perceive it as a slap in the face to RU but maybe that is due to the fact I want him here to help push RU to a higher level. Instead, Princeton gets him..at least for now.How is it a slap in the face. Rutgers didn't have a vacant position available for AA. I'm glad he's coaching in NJ I get to go see him coach. Pollard didnt work w Shawver the previous years ? Can’t just use a one person sample size.. I’m sure Pollard is a good coach but we should always be asking ourselves how we can improve..Pollard worked with Dhawver all year and you saw the results
Must be the Pollard effect and not the NCAA all American in the room named Sebastian RiveraPollard worked with Dhawver all year and you saw the results
You forgot to mention silver world medalist too.Must be the Pollard effect and not the NCAA all American in the room named Sebastian Rivera.
Nobody is satisfied with our results. The coaches, wrestlers and fans want NCAA champions and AA's. I feel we are moving in that direction. Saying the organization is stagnate is not a true statement.I understand many insiders and other fans are satisfied with our mediocre results.
When an organization is stagnate for a decade without impactful change it is hard to believe the future will be much better or worst.
We are not going to convince each other of our opinions.
The good news is that when the season starts all of us whether from afar or at Jersey Mike's will be cheering our guys on.
I define stagnate as no improvement over meaningful ten 10 year periods. Check out our average finish over the last ten years and it is basically the same.Nobody is satisfied with our results. The coaches, wrestlers and fans want NCAA champions and AA's. I feel we are moving in that direction. Saying the organization is stagnate is not a true statement.
What impactful change are you looking for.
Bluemountain wants Hobbs to fire Goodale so he can hire Coach Hahn. He won't stop bashing the coaching staff until this happens. When is your next meeting with Hobbs.Really weird how you constantly say “if you remove the Suriano/Ashault year then our average finish is Xth place” but in a couple days you’ll say we finished Xth place with Suriano and Ashnault and use that as a barometer for where the team should be yearly. You can’t have it both ways.
If you want to look at your 10 year segment logic, in the last 10 years we’ve finished top 20 eight times with one covid year and one lousy season in 34th. We finished as high as 9th, and if you want to randomly exclude the two title year then our new high is 11th, or if for whatever baseless reason you want to ignore any roster with Suriano and Ashnault then a high of 13th. We’ve had more all Americans since both those guys graduated than we had in the entire wrestling history before they stepped on campus.
For some reason you enjoy having this conversation over and over again. You get the answers, you opt not to like them, and then go fishing for the same discussion with the same people. I don’t understand it.
Yes, we're very good at beating up on the likes of Edinboro, Buffalo, Rider and Bloomsburg but in conference we haven't had a winning season in 6 yrs. Actually, we did better in conference our 1st five years than our last five. We had 3 winning seasons in our 1st 5 yrs. but none in the last five yrs.. So, you could say by looking at conference dual meets and no big time OOC wins we've been trending down the last five yrs.You can’t just use the NCAA finishes as the success factor. You must include the dual meet results too
He clearly stated "YOU MUST INCLUDE THE DUAL MEET RESULTS" so I kept it to that. I didn't veer off into AA's, recruiting or tournament placings.SInce conference depends on who you wrestle, the better statistic is B10 Placement,
What were we, 6th this year?
See, you can make statistics say what you want.
I hear ya. I am usually fairly positive about RU (Thou Baseball REALLY let me down this year)He clearly stated "YOU MUST INCLUDE THE DUAL MEET RESULTS" so I kept it to that. I didn't veer off into AA's, recruiting or tournament placings.
I thought the B1G's was awesome and was very pleased with the team's effort. I even championed their effort on this board. But this program has not been on the rise the last five years as some might say. If anything, it's either stagnated or fallen back a notch.I hear ya. The general consensus is that March is what matters. We haven't won a big dual meet in 10 years or so...You can’t just use the NCAA finishes as the success factor. You must include the dual meet results too
This.. we had plenty of realistic chances to beat programs on their “down years”.. but we literally never do.. based on pure statistics we should have by now… yep we haven’t won any upsets nor can u think of any big coin flip matches we won recently?? But we have gotten upset by lesser teams plenty of times…. Dual meet record doesn’t mean much until we can win some coin flip/slight underdog matches… and/or move up the b10 pecking order.. We are moving in the right direction but it has been scarily stagnant for the last decade..The general consensus is that March is what matters. We haven't won a big dual meet in 10 years or so...
