not Kevin Boyle. He will never take the pay cut to be a college coach

I never thought Boyle would get that job, no matter how bad he wanted it.

A week ago Monday I was in the UCF basketball office visiting someone and told him Stanford was going to fire Dawkins. He told me that I was nuts. Not 90 minutes later the news broke that he was out at Stanford. Now he's going to be that guy's boss...maybe.

Dawkins can reboot his image by winning there. The pieces are in place and there are lots of three-star and high two-star prospects in the state that he can get.

I think that is a very good hire for them. Can't believe it came down to money for Boyle as I am sure ucf could have made it worth his while if they wanted him. I think he needs to decide if being a college hc is important to him and whether he is willing to pay his dues to to climb the ladder.

Stony Brook is a UCF type job.

But I agree with Russ that UCF is a place where you can get healthy quickly.

Suspect that, for the individuals who would have to put their reputations and jobs on the line by making a Boyle hire, there is not enough confidence/certainty in the upside - and too much concern about the areas of question/ doubt ... and the consequences (to them) if it did not go well & the reason was directly related to one of these areas of question.
One of the chief difficulties in considering Boyle for a major HC position is the lack of prior college HC experience - That lack does not mean that he can't do the job - but in reality, the basketball fan & media community will be totally unforgiving of any errors that could be attributed to that lack of experience - - and they would be swiftly calling for the heads of those individual(s) who chose to ignore conventional wisdom and employ someone with an experience deficiency.

Nonetheless, at some point, if Boyle's price point is attractive, somebody may get courageous.

I don't see any top 100 - 150 basketball program hiring Boyle as a head coach. Most would not hire him as an Assistant. He had zero chance of getting the RU job.

I gotta disagree with the first part of your post.

Considering what UCF pays, their facilities and improving resources; they are not the same type of jobs.

Also at UCF UConn, Memphis, Temple, Cincinnati & SMU are in your conference. Who is the American East equivalent? Vermont and Albany?

Russ

I meant right now Stony Brook is the equivalent of UCF in terms of on the floor talent.

Agree. UCF and Stony Brook are not even close in comparison.

UCF almost had Schiano and Boyle. Instead Scott Frost and Johnny Dawkins.
How do you almost have someone that you never offered the job to?

According to my sources, King Rice and the St. Bonaventure head coach rounded out UCF's top three. That is once Underwood became out of reach and Rutgers hired Pikiell.

Make all the various categories you want-----Stony Brook is a better team-----not even close.

Nice campus close to Orlando.
Went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Very impressed. I didn't even feel like I was on a college campus, it was like a cool little town with fraternity houses.

And the coeds are competitive with the UF and the FSU girls
