So that we don't forget, Keith Sargeant is a hack, who is paid by SL to write inflammatory articles, filled with twisted/half truths, unsubstantiated rumors, or just lies to inflame the NJ taxpayer regarding Rutgers University.

During periods of boredom, I venture to SL's web page to see if any positive articles are actually written regarding Rutgers University, specifically RU Football. Of course, I'm almost always disappointed. But, lately the content has been somewhat upbeat(I'm guessing Ash has a lot to do with that), until I get to Sargeant's daily hack job. Yesterday it was about HBO's documentary with Bryan Gumbel(MI and Syracuse Alumnus), regarding Athletic spending, more precisely subsidizing Athletic spending at Rutgers University. Sargeant highlights HBO's interviews with favorite Prof. Killingsworth! All negative as usual, with no mention of future influx of funds from the BIG, or FOX, no mention of comparable budgets to other Universities, or faculty spending, etc...The article was slanted unfavorably to fit the agenda of the SL, and it's hatred of Rutgers. Sargeant is not the only tool, but he seems to enjoy his work, more than the other too fools of Politi and Duggan.
And, today he jumps on the concussion bandwagon, depicting the 'Ring of honor' drill as potential concussion inducing exercises! Like he actually gave a dam! No, this is again another article to discredit Rutgers and in this case Ash, or his methods. If he can discredit the Coach, he can then discredit the program.

I love that Ash has eliminated the press from practices, at least for the most part. I just wish we could do more.

Go RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

If people who read his articles are stupid enough to believe him and that's the ONLY perception they get of Rutgers with no other fact checking, I don't want them as our "fans", they probably never would have been anyway. Right now, nothing that anyone in the media says matters because we're in the Big Ten and we're not getting kicked out and we're about to get a big fat check in a few years, that takes care of half of it. Ash starts winning, that takes care of the other half and the media will have nothing to write about. Soon friends.

You're both full of crap, but your minds are made up no matter how wrong you are. So I'll keep it short: Sargeant's fair and objective. Always has been. Go read ScarletKnights.com if you only want pom-poms waved.

And as to your claim he ignored the reported Fox/Big Ten deal, there's this. Try to not be so clueless going forward.

Don't wish that! We need the coverage.

The press, and media relations so far under Ash, has been great. Your hatred will never cease, I get that. But NJ.com has been very fair thus far this spring.

I worked with Sarge at the home news in the early 2000s . He was my supervisor on the high school sports beat . I must say he was a good guy and still is . Like most of us , he has bosses, and he's got to keep them happy. I always found his Rutgers reporting fair and I am sure he wants Rutgers to win because it's a hell of a lot easier covering a winner and going in the locker room after wins . It would be much cooler covering Rutgers in the rose bowl than a nail biter at army.

If he was so biased against us, why did he include this in the Real Sports story:
(Not noted in the report, but important to explain here for context: Boarding football teams at an on-campus hotel on the eve of home games is a common practice in major college athletics. There are many reasons for it, including the desire to hold meetings and walkthroughs, host team meals and to enforce a team-wide curfew. It's widely considered to be the cost of doing business considering home games typically rake in seven figures of profit. According to its most recent fiscal year report, Rutgers earned $1.8 million per home game in 2014)

Positive press is what we need. Yes, the press has improved. But, hardly what it should be, I think we can agree on that. But, NJ.com and fair are two terms/words I don't think should ever be in the same sentence. We have a long history, maybe some of you have forgotten that.

Because he had to. He still needs access. The only thing that surprises me is that it wasn't at the bottom of the article, as a footnote.

There are some on this board that really hold onto grudges. Part of being an objective reporter is writing about both sides.

He wrote an article about an HBO show doing a piece on Athletic spending. and then wrote a follow up piece to that with 5 takeaways from the Real Sports piece.

His, and other columnists, job is not to write puff pieces. If you want puff pieces read SK.com. I appreciate the fact that they give you the good and the bad.

The vast majority of stories coming out of all news outlets have been very very positive, and maybe you should grow up and not take everything written as a personal insult.

And Shill, I'm a little surprised at your ignorance, and more at the personal attack. You don't like or agree with opinions on this board, that is your choice. But, to belittle mine from a narcissistic point of view is just uncalled for.

I've gotten to know Keith a bit over the years and think he's a good guy and writes mostly fair articles. I have disagreed w some things and he was reasonable in his responses when I criticized. His editor Kevin Manahan calls the shots in many instances. They need eyeballs and clicks and he'll slant a headline or content to ensure that.

Many people do not realize that the writers of the stories do not write the headlines.

Tough to be positive when coaching hires were awful, team performance poor, and scandals rampant. Success on the field will improve the overall coverage.

When things are good, the press is positive...Don't think you realize that.

What did I say that was ignorant? And you can give all the opinions you want as misinformed as they might be. But you also say things that are just flat-out untrue.
