Basketball Kiyomi McMiller is OUT for tonight's game against No. 4 USC

Suit Tasha up. What stoopid thing did Kiyomi do? Without her, Awa in only her 2nd game back, a couple of walk-ons, and a crappy coach to boot...not even worth getting riled up. Weren't going to win anyway.
Don't even have a damn AD, what a cluster*uck this team is.

I am done with this coach.
Unless Kiyomi straight up punched her in the face, that was not very smart of her. You’re not gonna “discipline” or bully the kid into being subservient to you by benching her in the biggest game of the year.
Not only that, but it’s a great way to alienate the fan base.
Rutgers picked up new fans because Kiyomi was here.
I gave the coach the benefit of the doubt last year when Smikle disappeared for “medical issues”.
Two years in a row to lose the best player on the team in the middle of the year is unheard of. Bad coaching decisions.

My impression from game one was that Kiyomi is an extremely talented player who is not interested in the team game.
After tonight results, one can see why she isn't interested in the team game. A coach that does this to his star player in one of their biggest games of the year, is a coach who will be looking for a new job after the season

The kid is in the wrong.

Maybe the player is the cancer worried about her future bag...fact is her talent hasn't helped her team do anything...she appears a selfish brat

This kid is all about herself not the team. Last game I was courtside with her father sitting behind me yelling out instructions to her the whole game. She focused on him and not her coach. Father runs a basketball academy and has been training Kiyomi from a young age.

When Smikle didn't play last year, I don't recall it ever being the result of a coach's decision.
Like ai said, how do you know?? You make it sound like you are on the team and you know what’s going on. You only know what you’re being told or what you’re not being told. For the second year in a row the best player on the team has quit in the middle of the season. Thats a fact!

Sucks. I'm a Rutgers fan, not a Kiyomi McMiller fan. Chose to put herself before the team, goodbye!

How do you know? What other team do you see where the best player on the team is off the team in the middle of the season two years in a row?

Certain people choose to believe it is the player. Other people like me, choose to believe it is the coach.

As far as the kid being selfish…to a degree, yes. But superstars get to take more shots. She was playing her role.

None of us were there. Last year I gave coach benefit of the doubt. This year, it is too much.

A player loses any benefit of the doubt the moment she has her own PR team craft a statement publicly dragging her head coach and, in the process, causes a significant distraction hours before her teammates are set to play a massive game. It was her choice to make this messy. She already has a history of disciplinary issues in her short career here. There's no denying the talent, but hopefully somebody else gives her another chance at growing as a teammate.

Well, maybe there are “ disciplinary issues” where there shouldn’t be?
I mean, how many girls are a discipline problem? One every year? You gotta be kidding me?
This kid never exhibited any discipline issues on any teams before this.
Why else would the best player on the team be gone in the middle of the season two years in a row???
Should like the coach is making bad or excessive decisions about discipline.

The team isn't making disciplinary issues out of thin air. Plenty of chatter out there from her first suspension this year for missing practice. I'm sure this one will come out soon enough. Her body language has been pretty hard to ignore these past few games, too, and it's more than shown in her shot-chucking. I'm sure ten out of her eleven teammates not following her on social media is also the coaching staff's fault.

Does no one any more understand that more than one thing can be true at the same time?

I'm going to just run a few things out there any and all of which may or may not be true. A star player came to Rutgers to shine and set up her future; a star player wants (ultimately) more NIL money than Rutgers provides, a star player is not much of a "team" player either because they want to shine or they sincerely think they are better than their teammates; a coach doesn't believe that superstars get to take more shots, a coach is old school and doesn't tolerate a superstar acting like it, a coach isn't very good at it and the players know it etc. etc. etc.

I'll say one thing - upcoming superstar players do not inherently get to take more shots, unless they are in the offense and that's the plan. It doesn't have to be. The best of the Rutgers stars I watched - including Cappie, Essence, Piph etc. - shot a lot within the offense or because they were the last option.

And part of my point is that it has little to do with how good or bad a coach Washington is or isn't. You simply don't do what McMiller did.

Thank you for your input.

Don’t iver think it. Better players take more shots. That is elementary.

You don’t do what she did?
What did she do? Announce she wasn’t playing? Yeah, so what. She gave a courtesy to the people who came to watch. I know people who paid hundreds of dollars per seat to see Kiyomi play against Juju.

Maybe to you, a star player is what you mentioned. But if you search the definition..it states A star player is “a talented athlete who is the foundation of a team or organization's success.”

It’s a shame that her actions prevented her fans from seeing her play tonight.

I noticed the same thing. In her desperation to "right the ship" here, Coach Co has gambled on a player who appears to be doing more harm than good. If the things I'm hearing are true (along with the things I've seen myself) the player (and what comes with her) is a cancer, and I doubt she plays again. I hope I'm wrong, and that this can be fixed, but my eyes and ears tell me otherwise.

Kaylene Smikle recently said it’s nice to be on a team (Maryland) that cares about you as a person. That’s very telling. The list of players abandoning our program keeps growing.

No one is above the team and you can’t fight with teammates. Pretty simple. If she choooses to go elsewhere, that’s her prerogative. Hopefully, she finishes the season.

So a locker room altercation makes you above the team? And worthy of a suspension? A locker room altercation. 😂Yeah, good job coach! You didn’t over react at all. Yiu are the feared leader you want to be. Hopefully unemployed soon and replaced with somebody the kids want to play for.
It is obvious that you never played sports before.

You ignored my comment above about all but one of her teammates unfollowing her on social media. I think that gives a pretty good indication on where her teammates stand on this “altercation” and other antics
