Knicks really play D

Mitchell Robinson is such a presence when he’s able to stay on the floor. Cleveland had no answer for him on the glass.

I’m one of those ‘NBA sucks’ guys, but the offensive rebounding from the Knicks was a pleasure to watch.

They won a Natty at Villanova together and Brunson won another 2 years later. They have great chemistry. It should inspire friends to play together the success these two have had together at Nova and now the Knicks.

WTF did Jimmy Butler just do to send this game to OT. Seriously? He might be the best playoff performer ever.

I was hoping for the Heat to win but would have like to have seen it go another game at least. Would have given Randle more time and have them playing on short rest. Now I am wondering if I needed to be more careful about what I wished for. The Heat is on a roll and Spo is a very good coach. Still think we have a better chance at stopping Butler than Giannis but will need to defend much better than the Bucks did.

They are hot because the Knicks have a point guard who is a dynamic scorer and a center who is a terrific rebounder. There are five other players that also make significant contributions on offense/defense.

As a Knick fan, you can’t ask for a better scenario (minus Randle’s ankle), than the surprise Heat…without Herro and Oladipo. Also remember that Butler is banged up too and that back can give him trouble at any time. If the Knicks can’t beat them, they truly don’t deserve the conference finals and so be it.

Watched the Knicks, then some of Bucks/Heat and some of Warriors.
The Knicks played at a lower level than those teams - maybe it was their opponent?

Young teams such as the Cavs typically go thru growing pains until they garner playoff experience, It truly is a new season. They'll be better off going forward from it. Seeing the same with Sacramento out West.

It’s crazy how well Brunson is playing. He looks out of place on the court, short, stocky with short arms. I never would have pictured him doing this. When he was in Dallas he wasn’t even the point guard because Luka always had the ball, he just ran to a corner to spread the floor and provide an outlet for Luka.

Cleveland was the number one rated defense in the NBA during the regular season this year so I’m sure that contributed. Every game in the series was pretty low scoring.

Even game 3 where the Knicks blew them out by 20, they only put up 99 points.

When Luka went to the bench, it was Brunson's team.

It is amazing though - Brunson doesn't even look like an athlete, much less an NBA stud, just finds ways to put the ball in the hoop or set up teammates. He's a guy every other player should be watching to see how he does stuff.

Maybe, team defense, ball/player movement on offense, those other games looked higher level.
It comes down to guys making shots but that team stuff makes a big difference in getting better shots or making it tougher for other teams to get better shots.

Agreed. This series was kind of a throwback in a lot of ways. Really physical, ugly at times, pretty low scoring.

Really excited for round 2.

I was looking at the stats for the Knicks players and all were shooting worse than season average and they still won. I guess Cav defense did affect Knicks shooting,

The key was that they out rebounded the Cavs all series long. Mitchell Robinson and Josh Hart were tremendous in this area. Robinson's performance in game 5 was just outstanding.

Josh Hart may be the consequential Knick in season acquisition in a long time. I have to go back to the likes of acquiring DeBusschere and Monroe with regard to the impact on the team. I am not saying he is as good as those two but he has been terrific.

Brunson was very efficient offensively in Dallas. He was the second best player on that team during their playoff run. What he's doing in NY is not that surprising.

I don't watch the NBA anymore, but started watching the knicks for the playoffs and they are super fun to watch and easy to root for
Me too, last season I fully watched was around 2000 after the Strike and the Knicks and the Spurs were in the NBA finals. I loved the late 80s to 90s Knicks teams. After Ewing finished his career in Seattle, the Knicks couldn't get my attention much the last 2 decades.

Josh Hart's role just reminds me so much of how Mawot Mag played for us before the ACL tear.

Very competitive first half. On defense the Knicks need to stay on the ground and not bite on shot fakes. Butler relatively quiet in the first half and they are only down by 5. He seems as interested in getting others involved as scoring himself. That might change in the second half.

I went to the first game Hart played for a Knicks and said courtside. I think my daughters are now Knicks fans for life. This team is easy to root for and watch

Bad second half. Heat not going to beat themselves. Knicks going to need to play much better. This team much more savy than the Cavs.

Just like Rutgers ,Knicks or any other team , in first half when you have several chances to take 12 point lead to 16-18 you must . Nice 12 point lead at half instead of 5 after a little run by heat end first half

Brunson on the bench and Randall not playing limits scoring options.
