Knicks really play D

No one on the Knicks is close to the player that Butler is. Most of the rest of the matchups favor the Knicks. However, the Heat have a huge advantage in the coaching department. I expect this to go 7 but if you switched coaches the Knicks would probably win in 5.

Defense has been unreal tonight both games. Kinda in awe at it. A lot of spots in space where it looks like someone is about to be put in the blender and somehow ball gets stopped and turns into a great defensive possession.

World class athleticism on display basketball purists gotta be happy.

how about when Butler couldn't move in last 5 minutes, and instead of clearing out and having RJ Barrett go iso (which worse case Miami runs a second guy at ball, then you have them chasing and should end up with open three) they bring another teammate over to pick! (obviously they switched Butler off the ball)

Yea that was baffling

Thibs teams emphasize defense and generally all teams play more defense during the playoffs. The Knicks and Heat will get after each other. That does not mean you won’t get some wide open looks but the defense is trying to dictate who is left open to take those shots.

The Knicks, much like my favorite college team, does not have enough guys who consistently hit their outside shots. Need Grimes and Quickley to nail some 3 pointers tonight.

we need the Quickley back who played like a stud when Brunson was out

not sure if playoff nerves or what, but doesn't look like same guy

It was painful watching that. Just isolate him! Don't bring another defender over so they can just switch. So so dumb. They should have scored at will. Butler could barely move and had no business being on the court

I have more respect for the Heat after tonights game than after game one. Spoelstra is a terrific coach and they are going to be a tough out. Knicks were in danger of going down 0-2 until late in the 4th quarter. Need to figure out how to work through the Heat's heavy screens and do better in their own half court offense.

Well, we're sure as shit seeing some good defense in the playoffs, at least. The LA-GS series has been great fun to watch, with some superb shooting, but also some great defense by many players, including, of course, LeBron. Lakers pulled it out tonight to go up 3-1, but if GS can win game 5 at home, then them coming back to win the series isn't a longshot.

The offensive ability is so much better. Just about every player on the court is a 3pt threat if left open. You can't help and leave anyone open.
Imagine having 2-3 RHJ just hanging out in the corner waiting for an open 3.

getting OT but Geo shot 48.5% on corner 3's his senior year - but only 16/33 on the best shot in basketball
35/123 = 28.5% outside of the corners (more than 14 feet from the baseline)

Knicks are pretty much done.
Yep. The Heat has just been the better team every game. Spo has done a terrific job on both ends particularly against Brunson and making him work 94 feet all game. They have made the Knicks look like the Cavs when they were playing the Knicks. Several guys including Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson and Obi Topped were much more effective in the prior series. They need more shooting. I gripe a lot about Pike's offense but Thibs just permits iso after iso which is not a lot of fun to watch against a good defensive team.

As much as I like Thibs, he is super stubborn and not great at making adjustments. Spo is just flat out out coaching him.

The outside shooting and shotmaking in the NBA is on another level. So is offense in general.

Julius randle as your no. 1 option will never get you anywhere. He should be a good 3rd option that hustles and plays defense, grabs rebounds etc. He's handling the ball at the top of the key shooting step backs like he's Luka doncic. Not efficient basketball, Knicks need to run better offense, I'd play toppin over randle. let Randle come off bench, maybe he can get going against the second team. But it looked like zeller was too much to handle for him as well so idk..

Funny thing is that Randle May make third team all NBA and had rehabilitated his trade value after his poor performance last year. This playoff performance is bringing back memories of the Hawks series two years ago. Still not sure I trust this Knicks front office to make the right decisions this off season.

Josh Hart has also struggled in this series and they need to figure out what type of deal to offer him.

Hart is a great 20 min max guy off the bench on a good team where they don't need any scoring from that spot.

Maybe I'm still scarred from Carmelo but his game is too similiar for me to get by it. Randle doesn't mind banging which Melo wasn't fond of, but just too many similarities (Melo obviously the better shooter)

Quentin Grimes with one of the more gutsy plays I’ve ever seen.

Played the full 48 minutes. Gets caught on an illegal screen by Adebayo (Legit don’t think Bam has ever set a clean screen), goes down with an apparent cramp, gets back into the play and strips Jimmy Butler clean. Just awesome.

I thought he banged knees with Adebayo but then I heard its another ankle injury. Terrific effort on his part to gut it out although in that particular sequence I was surprised he was not called for a foul on Butler.

I keep waiting for him to be more than an afterthought on offense to give us a little more variability away from the iso heavy looks but his shooting has been just OK at best. With IQ still in a boot and Hart not playing particularly well let's hope Grimes is able to go full tilt tomorrow night.
