Personally I see us going after 2 transfers in the offseason, at 165 and at 197. I really, really don't want Kannaird to start as a TF, and Correnti just isn't able to be a factor at 197. Get Sutton and hopefully a quality 165 transfer can come in and start, allowing Kanniard to RS.

Agreed, though I haven’t given up on Correnti completely. He’s gone toe to toe with some top guys, just needs to take that next step. Not easy, but possible.

It gets interesting from 165 to 197. If Grello drops down then Kanniard redshirts. Scott, pagano or even turkey could drop down to 174. 184 is janzers to lose. I think he’ll be a ncaa qualifier next year. Kids a beast.

Plus like I said, we could easily get a transfer or 2 especially at 165 and 197. I think we are at the point where we want to RS all the freshman we can.

Who are the potential transfers at 165?
I have heard people say that Tyree Sutton is a possible transfer at 197, is this realistic?
I would love it if the 120 pounder who just decommited from Maryland decides he wants to go to RU. PSU has Robert Howard coming in at 125 so his best chance for an immediate impact could be at RU.
How is the 285 Pounder from Gilroy, California looking?

Suriano is eligible for an Olympic redshirt next season, if he wants it...odds he takes it? Not to mention, he also has a regular redshirt to use the following season, if he wanted...

Would love to get the PA 120lber. Good point about PSU. Proximity wise, Pitt and Ohio State could be in the mix, otherwise OK State needs a 125lber I would imagine with Picc graduating.

To those with way more insights on our program with me, how does next year's proposed lineup look against B1G competition? Do we have realistic chance at top 5 (thinking Penn St., Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa at top and difficult to beat, Nebraska, Minny, and Wisconsin ahead of us, but beatable, and then us and the rest of still a strong B1G. Is this off?

Without even looking, there is little chance we will be a top 5 team in the B10 next year.
Our team lost their 149 (National Champ), 157 (National qualifier) and 184 pound National qualifier) wrestlers to graduation.

We have 1 AA and 3 NQ returning. We will probably be in the 7th to 10th range in the B10. It will be a struggle unless some wrestlers make big strides in the off season.

We need Nick Suriano to make the finals again next year or the season could be a big step back. Hopefully we can squeeze out another All American so we can continue the streak with 4 straight years of multiple AA's.

Exactly. Overall, next year figures to be a step back. But, keep an eye to see if we get any impact transfers.

Suriano is not eligible for an Olympic RS as of now

CRITERIA

  1. Past national team members (top three from the World or Olympic Team Trials)
  2. Top eight at the 2019 Senior U.S. Open
  3. Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship; or NCAA champion from a previous year AND top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials (must accomplish both).
  4. Previous Cadet, Junior, U23 world medalist

Next years team will feature a lot of youth. Hopefully by years end we see a lot of growth with these guys. A lot of potential studs.

What???? Yes he is. Criteria 3 is "Top three at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship" and he was the 2019 NATIONAL CHAMP. WTF am I missing?

Must accomplish both is for the part AFTER the semicolon which is "or NCAA champion from a previous year AND top two from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials" which means NCAA champ from 2018 or earlier and top 2 from U23. Suriano qualified for an Olympic redshirt.

I know most people won’t like this idea, but I feel it’s best for the future of Rutgers. Soriano takes a regular redshirt(he has no intentions of wrestling freestyle), Glasgow redshirts, any transfer redshirts and all freshmen redshirt. That sets us up very nicely for the 20-21 season.

If that happens we likely don’t finish in the top 20 next year, but I feel we could make a push for top 5 finish the following season.

For someone who thinks they know what is best for the program, one would think that they would know how to spell the name of RU's first National Champion Suriano!

I’m not one of those in the know, but I don’t think we’ll be any good next year. Certainly won’t be top 5 in the B1G. Could

We will be very, very bad next year if this is the decision. Nowhere near top 20.

At BEST we’d qualify 6 for NCAA’s - Aguilar, Lipari, MVB, Grello, Correnti, and Colucci - with zero AA’s. More likely we qualify 3-4 for NCAA’s.

Not saying I’d disagree with the decision, just that it’d be a massive step back.

Line up for 20-21 could look like:
125: Aguilar (rs So)
133: suriano (rs sr)
141: Aragona (rs fr)
149: van brill (rs sr)
157: Glasgow (rs So)
165: Kainnard (rs fr)
174: Grello (rs sr)
184: janzer (rs so)
197: Sutton (rs Jr) think he’s our best shot at a transfer and will need a year to get adjusted to Rutgers academics
285: tbd or Correnti (rs sr) I know he tried last year and it didn’t work out, but look at the success Cassar had this year and Snyder as small heavyweights

I want to see Suriano wrestle next year.
Let him try to get RU back to back national champions.
The fans (me) need something to root for next season.

I heard that Suriano wanted to fight MMA (from this board) and if that is the case, I can;t see him redshirting.

Could Correnti even beat Colucci? From the looks of last year Correnti isn't beating him out and even lost to freshman Wright in a wrestle off. The coaching staff put their faith in Correnti last year and he didn't work out. It might just be time to move on and believe me I had high hopes for him this season as he qualified as a true frosh. Not an easy feat at 197 lb. But this year, he turned into a huge bust.

Fingers crossed we get Sutton. I think Correnti will be a bench wrestler the rest of the way.

We really need to hope that some of the young guys in the program develop and pan out. Otherwise this is looking like a significant rebuild. This conference is so strong that you can get left behind quickly with 1 or 2 subpar recruiting classes. No time to rest on your laurel's thats for sure. We need to step it up in most weight classes.

The difference now though is RU now has become an attractive place for transfers which can fill in any gaps.

While I agree that redshirting all those guys would give us a stacked lineup for 20-21 it would also kill the 19-20 season. They need to keep the momentum up, keep Rutgers name in circulation, get the recruits to keep coming. The teams that can take off years (Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, etc.) are established programs that it would not affect their recruiting at all. They just had their biggest year ever and excitement for the program is at the peak. They need capitalize on this.

I think if Robinson can get down to 125 then it is open competition with Aguilar.
