Lack of Discipline

The sad thing is those stats would be a positive upgrade for us...

Flood:
Game 1- 1 Turnovers, 9 penalties 60 yards, 0 Turnover Margin
Game 2- 3 Turnovers, 11 penalties 100 yards, -3 Turnover Margin
Game 3- 3 Turnovers, 8 penalties 80 yards, -2 Turnover Margin
Game 4- 3 Turnovers, 10 penalties 80 yards, -1 Turnover Margin
Avg - 2.5 Turnovers, 9.5 penalties 80 yards, -1.5 Tunrover Margin

Meyer:
Game 1- 3 Turnovers, 6 penalties 58 yards, -1 Turnover Margin
Game 2- 0 Turnovers, 6 penalties 55 yards, +4 Turnover Margin
Game 3- 5 Turnovers, 6 penalties 39 yards, -3 Turnover Margin
Game 4- 2 Turnovers, 12 penalties 86 yards, -1 Turnover Margin
Game 5- 3 Turnovers, 8 penalties 109 yards, -3 Turnover Margin
Avg - 2.6 Turnovers, 7.6 penalties 69.4 yards, -0.9 Turnover Margin

As Flood has stated this is a sign of a winning team. He teaches the squad to be just like national champions. Unfortunately, these are the only stats that Rutgers actually exceeds the current national champ.

I posted this some time ago but I am going to repeat it again. Many years ago when the Chi Bears were the "MONSTERS of the MIDWAY",George Halas,Papa Bear, was asked about the number of penalties that his team accrued each game. He was quoted as saying that if they didn't get 100 yds in penalties that he would be a very upset person.( a lot of those penalties was for unnecessary roughness ) All that the Bears did,in those days, was WIN.

this one:
122 out of 128 in Turnover Margin

but hey, I wasn't attacking you. I was just answering 4real's question. You seem like a good dude. And I respect your positions even if I don't agree. No malice intended here Shift. I just recalled you position on this from a good back and forth in the above thread.

It's all good. I have been sleep deprived lately. Here is what I posted:
"2012- #17- That was a Flood year. We won a share of the Big East.
2011- #40 what did we win? Tied for 4th in Big East.
2010- #24, Rutgers was 4-8 that year.
2009-#4- tied for 4th in Big East.
2008- #62- tied for 2nd in Big East

Does not seem to correlate to success in winning the conference."

Turnover margin is important for a team like Rutgers, when a game can turn on a single turnover. Can't explain the years above, when turnover margins were low, but we had rather poor showings.

Friendly disagreements and debates are what the Board should be about. Rubbing other peoples' noses in their pre-season predictions, especially after losing most of our secondary, Hamilton and Carroo, is not cool.

Statistics don't lie, but they can be pretty confusing and manipulated in many ways to make a point.

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard Flood say. He also said penalties are ok as long as it doesn't negate TD's or explosive plays. The problem is that penalties happen during the play so every penalty potentially kills a TD or explosive play. That's why competent coaches preach that penalties need to be minimized.

Agree. Even in big victories the coaches don't go up there in the post game interviews and say penalties are a good thing. They immediately start by saying we need to clean things up. As bad as that comment was by Flood the email was 1000% worse. This was supposed to be a smart man but he says really stupid stuff. Even the 5% crowd can't defend that

That email and the things that the investigation uncovered are comedy central...when it first came out I honestly thought we were being pranked. I thought it was too hilarious to be true. Unfortunately it was all true, Flood may be a smart man but he both says and does stupid stuff.
