Now this yesterday is over, I’m going to think about conference play. Hopkins looks weak this year. Anyway we can pull off three conference wins this year? That would be fantastic and probably good enough for a three seed in the B1G tournament

I’d say it’s impossible because of automatic possession disadvantage due to the inability to win faceoffs.
Especially at critical times, violations are just handing the ball to the opposing team

Let’s hope Harryman can stay healthy. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was back next week or by B1G play.

Beyond that, we are going to need to do some things.

^ You never want to hear the phrase “we are going to need to do some things.”

How many years does Harryman have left?

Once he graduates, who steps in?
Any chance we have someone lined up to be a freshman next season?

How good is Harryman?
Has excelled in a game for us yet?
He’s a grad senior. He’s the best we got. He has held his own in the limited time he’s been healthy. He did dominate Lafayette. Think we won every face off.

We have Ott who has been playing, Perlstein who is a freshman, and recruit coming. I believe Oltman is only a junior so he will be back, along with one or two others.

Only took two faceoffs against Lehigh, but won them both against a high% FOGO from their team.

Then he fell over grabbing his hammy.

Hoping he can stay upright - I agree that he’s the best we have

If all a guy does is take face offs, then run off the field, how the heck do you injure your hammy doing that?
Sprinting off the field too hard?

Give me a break!

Faceoff guys get injured more than any other. It’s an extremely physical position.

He hurt his hammy running after he picked up the ball. I’d suggest understanding the game before posting about certain things.

Ott is a freshman and Perlstein is a sophomore, That will be the Duo next year. I am surprised that they did not have Massesa Face off as he did it all through HS and was very good at it. FOGO kids are very tough to read as it is a lot about matchups and how they play out. After next week we will see some of the very best face off kids in the country

Coming out on the lopsided losing end in faceoffs 27-9 I hope Lehigh had a, "very best face off kid in the country" otherwise we're dead meat the rest of the way.

For me, Ohio St. is still an unknown given the cupcake schedule they've played so far. RU would be either undefeated or a 1 loss team if they had played that schedule.

Ohio St. is good, but they haven't really been tested yet. We play them at their place where they are really tough. But, we were just there last year do to some scheduling changes. Hopefully that helps with some familiarity. That's a game we need. I can't see us going to Penn St. and walking out with a W.

Hopkins is getable.

I actually think PSU duo is better than either Lehigh or Cuse

Relax Nuts, lots of lacrosse to go.

Calling it like I see it - since Game 1 this season - this team has serious issues. Again, could just be a bad combination of things this year, I sure hope so, odds are we’d be lucky to win 1 conference game.

I'd take that bet if you want.

Sat. we sucked in one area. On offense and defense, especially offense, we played very well. Best to date.

We put up 1 less goal on Syracuse than high octane Uva did in a over time game.

We will win a couple conference games...Syracuse is an uber talented team...we struggled at the X...does that need to be fixed...yes! How will it get fixed...not sure, but this team will win some more games.

I'm not worried about the past of the last few years...if you want to bitch about history, that's fine, I get it...but that's got nothing to do with this team...period

Here are a few "facts"...not excuses to think about...

  • Staff changes have an impact and can take time...that's been a factor
  • Outside of Max and a few other guys...this team is very YOUNG...really YOUNG
  • Injuries to our FO guy(s) have had a direct outcome on 1-2 games...fact
  • KM being hurt didn't help...he looked good v Cuse, but its taking time to get back in sync
  • Having two senior SSDM's hurt also played a major role in the Lehigh game...SSDM is a tough ask for a freshman and frankly, they're doing pretty damn good considering...future in bright there...big time
  • The young middies to name a couple (0, 44, 6) will play "plus" lacrosse and if you've watched the last week, you see them starting to get more comfortable (see bullet #1 for the slow start)...the future is bright IMO at the MF
  • Now that we have Galley, AC, and KM settling in at attack, I think you will start seeing some continuity rewards that not only help that unit, but also the midfield...

I could go on but lots of factors have derailed this a bit...we're 4-4...let's hope for a win vs Hofstra and then we can look ahead to OSU...

As noted by someone above...if we played the OSU schedule...we would be 5-1.

Seasons not over...stick woth these guys...lots of change happened this year...

I talked with a Syracuse dad that I'm close to after the game...his comment was that we were as physical as anyone they have seen and we were a problem for them in a lot of matchups...aside from one area...

This season has been “over” for a while now. Sorry. Tired of ALL the excuses and it’s been an endless litany if them this year. Accept it, it’s a shitty year, period. Hopefully the team, and program, grow from it BUT we’ve seen the past few years that IS NOT the case under Brecht (see: Constantly losing games they shouldn’t lose, early in the season, which
ended up keeping them out of the postseason, right or wrong).

I honestly, truly hope it’s just a matter of having two brand new coordinators - ltoo many chefs in the kitchen” - that needs a season of adjustment otherwise I have a feeling we’re gonna be looking for a new coach in a couple of seasons because going 0-for-career, when it comes to making the NCAA’s, shouldn’t cut it my friends.

You give up too easy, Nuts. Assume this is your last post for the season on lacrosse?

Not giving up BUT I’ve been spot-on all season long so give me a little credit brotha’. I want this program to succeed as much as you, in the bin behind this coach from day one, but the proof is in the pudding.

Hopefully he turns it around next year, and finally we go back to postseason play, but I’m starting to have my reservations as are a lot of people. #proveuswrong

No one that matters is having reservations, I promise you.

See you next year :)

Well maybe they should be...I'm not an expert, but I know sports damn well, and there are issues (other than FOGO) whether you want to see them or not my friend. Bottom line: still no NCAA tourney appearances and until that changes us "outsiders" are going to sit here wondering "what the ****???"
Again, I still support Brecht, and will always support the team/program.... but for a guy who got an extension - with ZERO trips to the NCAA's on his resume - he needs to step things up AND I'm sure that, deep down, you agree.

It is somewhat ironic that face-offs won this game for Syracuse when Desko has been anti face-offs for many years. After this game, I can see his point, lol!!

Do I fantasize about having Nardella as our fogo with the talent we have now, you bet I do!

That's cool. I get it. The program has never been stronger. Those involved see it all very plainly and clearly. The team got dicked not going to the NCAA. Never forget that. We reached the number 1 ranking, we've beat numerous ranked teams, recruiting is going well and a new facility is being built.

There isn't another coach in the country I would want leading the program right now. He got the extension because he deserved it. Whether you think so or not, the fact is he was getting serious looks from schools that have more history than us. Had he left, you would have been pissed.

He is highly thought of in the lacrosse world, and so are the assistants.

Make sure you come back next year, hopefully they meet your standards then.

Gotta say, I've thought about that too. Not just Nardella. Rutgers has an extremely impressive history with fogo's, dating back to the 80's.

Okay I'm not gonna get anywhere with you ...lol I luv ya' brother you know that but God forbid I should be critical of the program that, DESPITE being ranked #1 for a few days, still didn't make the NCAA's last season. Yes, they got screwed, for the 2nd maybe 3rd time, no question, but had they not lost games that they should never have lost that wouldn't have been the case???

Anyway...AGAIN...I'M 100% BEHIND THE COACH, PROGRAM, AND TEAM, but the bottom line is that, right now, there ARE major issues and we tend to stink it up in the 2nd half so - AGAIN - maybe "too many chefs in the kitchen" and - AGAIN - hopefully that will iron itself out in the off-season!! [thumb2][thumb2][thumb2]

(someone has to play devil's advocate, may as well be me lol....)

There are no major issues. That's the point.

You are seeing a lot of new faces taking time to gel with new coaches. The one real issue is the one that's been beat to death and we all agree on- face offs. There aren't too many chef's in the kitchen. This is the best staff Rutgers lacrosse has ever had.

Beyond that, the program is very structurally sound.

I don't mind devil's advocate, but it needs to be grounded in realism.

Hence the handle "Are You Nuts".

Gotta go with my man Cali here. The program has never been in a better position or more nationally respected than it is today. Ever. The previous high water mark was some of Hayes' better teams. And back then were were basically Delaware or Hofstra - a solid team with many good and some great athletes that was certainly capable of beating most teams if they didn't bring their A game. But realistically, while we may have picked up an upset here and there, there was a pretty big gap between us and the top programs. There is still a gap but it is narrow. Anyone that knows the game and this program can see that we are only a few pieces away from being a top tier program. And while that last mile from consistently good to consistently great is the hardest, we have never been closer than we are today.

The injuries are killing us. If we can get our full team back we can beat anyone. The second half collapses are still a concern but our 4 losses are against 4 ranked teams and we will have an opportunity to play and beat some of the best going forward. Our RPI may look good at end of season.
There is still hope. Beat Hofstra, Then 3 out of the 5 in conference play with a win over either Penn State or Maryland and at least one win in tournament I think would get us in. Not as impossible as it would seem.

Fair enough:

- We have constantly gotten out-coached and outplayed in the second half.

- We lack a killer instinct (opinion)

- We’re sloppy (fact...maybe a youth thing).

- Brecht seems to wait a bit too long to call TO’s (opinion)

- we’re awful in “man up” (fact)

- When I say “too many chefs in the kitchen,” I’m not saying that this is a “bad staff” - AT ALL - I’m saying that we brought in 2 former head coaches in the same off-season, to be our coordinators, and maybe that’s causing some of the trouble especially during games. Not saying it will stay that way forever, I’m pretty sure it’ll work itself out this off-season and hope like hell it does, but obviously something isn’t clicking right now and it’s not just “youth” In my most humble of opinions. If we had made the NCAA tournament even once, the last three seasons, I would accept that excuse but that’s not the case. When I watch the games and these things are very obvious to me, as a non-expert, well....??

Hope that helps brotha!!
