I am probably just being paranoid, but… The Lafayette game looks and smells like a trap. It is a potential let down game after SHU and the tough 4 game stretch. Eight days between games. A dead RAC because of the holidays. Lafayette will come into the game 7-2 and having won 5 straight. They have won 3 road games already this year. Veteran starters. As a team, they have really good shooting numbers: >50% FG%, >75% FT% and shoot >40% 3Pt. Their 3Pt% is 6th best in the country.

I just being paranoid, right?

Every team we play requires extreme focus. I don’t think there will be a let down as Pikiell will refresh memories of some bad losses from last year. I feel like our team is just starting to really play at a high level and it starts with that sick defense. We have some time to prepare and hopefully all finals are finished by the end of this week.

It's definitely a trap, but is will also be a great barometer to show whether this team has taken the next step towards finally qualifying for the post-season.

No. Well coached Patriot league team that will win between 16-20 games this year. A game we should expect to win by 9-14 points at the RAC, but this isn't a team we are beating 75-40. A close game is very possible.

Warning Will Robinson. Danger. Danger. We better bring our A game. Lafayette won at St. Joe’s 94-71. They will be 7-2 when they arrive at the RAC.

This is 1000% a trap game. There is no other way to look at it. Just have to hope we come out focused and ready to go but these type of games have plagued teams since the dawn of sports.

St Joe's is 2-7. The combined record of the last 3 teams Lafayette beat is 5-22 including a 3 point victory against 1-7 Cornell and 5 point win vs 2-8 FDU.

I'm not worried. No one has called it a Classic Trap Game yet lol.

Not sure what happened to St Joe's in recent weeks, but they blitzed UConn on the road last month. Lafayette is dangerous but my gut instincts tell me that short of Lafayette winning their league and beating Duke in the 1st round in March, no one is going to think winning this game is a big deal.

Yeah St. Joe’s is having a subpar year, although they did win at UConn.

It’s hard to get up for every game. Sometimes they seem to be ready and sometimes they really struggle. I guarantee we will see another clunker as the season wears on. I hope pike drills it into their heads but i suspect this game will be like pulling teeth

I also am concerned about Lafayette because of games over many years over the holidays which we have lost or won in nail biters. The kids look forward to the holidays which is natural and when their focus is not 100 % we often struggle. Losses to Hartford, Stony Brook and close wins over Boston University and Columbia come to mind for me.

Were those RU teams as good as this one?

I could understand it a bit if they were playing tonight or tomorrow and people were worried about a SHU hangover. By this game SHU will be in the rear view mirror. Somewhere along the line Pike and RU have to put horrendous home showings behind them. Start now.

It’s hoops. We can beat anyone and we can lose to anyone. The likelihood of either outcome is mitigated by preparation and focus. It helps a lot if we don’t underestimate lesser opponents and equally that we are not intimidated by superior opponents. Easily said, harder to get young men to understand.

I expect a 15 point win.

No you are not being paranoid. If this season in college basketball has taught us anything, it is, that you better bring it every night. The Evansville win over Kentucky and the SFA win over Duke were not just upsets, but games where they led almost the entire way and were the better looking team on the court that night. The gap between teams is closing as there are players everywhere. Lafayette is very good and will likely win the Patriot league and go on to the NCAA. They are 192 in Kenpom and climbing. They have good shooters especially 3 point shooters. We better be ready and bring the same defensive intensity we are bringing these last few games.

Yes, it's a trap game because we will be looking ahead to... Caldwell.

I kid, I kid.

Listen, I am worried about EVERY game we play, as we're not good enough to just flip a switch and play well. Our strength is (now) our defense, and we need to have energy to play good defense. We're also not going to shoot 8-19 from 3-pt range very often. The team cannot take ANYONE lightly, let alone a pretty decent mid-major.

If we come out focused on the defensive end and rebound like we did vs SH, Lafayette doesn't have a chance. Hopefully, we are locked in at the outset and our tri captains are preaching a sense of urgency.
We have to get to 10-3!! No excuses!!!!

1) a week off may be better than playing tomorrow night

2) play the “LOWlights” of the St Bonaventure game in the locker room 24/7 this week

the bottom line is the team has to win, no excuses, Lafayette is decent but please.
It comes down to this basic fact that Rutgers must win the two remaining out of conference games to have a realistic chance of a winning season. There is no excuse for losing to Lafayette if Rutgers wants to be taken seriously after defeating Seton Hall by 20 points. As to attendance there are nine million people in NJ which is more than enough to attract 8000 to fill the RAC if there was interest in watching this game.

Yawn. For this we can just show up. Not worried.

Anytime you play teams with smart players they play smart and shoot smart and defend smart. It would be smart to be aware of that.

Put the entire team in a dark room and make them watch the Bonaventure game over and over!

It's not the looking forward to....Caldwell that concerns me, it's the looking back to SHU and not focusing on Lafayette that concerns me. Two years ago, the team was looking back to the big win over SHU and laid two eggs in a row. As noted above, these next 2 are critical if RU expects to play in the post-season. I would hate to see a repeat of what happened two years ago.

That said, we have a number of players who were not on the team two years and hopefully, they will come to play against Lafayette.

Only 43 years?? Lol

Yeah, if Bryant had a chance to win at the buzzer, Lafayette can certainly kick our uninspired asses.

Man a lot of you want the negative reinforcement here. I'd rather have positive reinforcement.

I don’t think we are good enough to even have “trap” games. We need to take everyone (except maybe Caldwell) seriously and prepare for team one game at a time.
