Last minute, RU ball: Ace has to shoot that

RU down by 1, Dylan takes it to the right corner, finds Ace open at the top of the arc, he passes up the open trey and instead looks for Martini in the left corner — turnover.

Martini defending — jumps, arms straight up, gets called for a foul. TAMU hits FTs, goes up by 3.

Dylan takes it to the hoop, defender does the same thing Martini did, doesn’t get called for a foul. Game over.

Ace should have taken that open look, with 0:43 left. He (or Dylan) has to be the go-to guy. Cannot give it up there.

At this point, I'm just hoping we eventually get a shot up of some kind. This and the Kennesaw State turnover drive me crazy. Just take a shot.

In hindsight I don’t disagree, but Bailey was getting bombarded and was about to make a hell of a play to Martini. He was wide open for 3…..not Baileys fault he completely dropped the pass.

This happens to every elite player at some point.
Lebron has 2 infamous ones in the NBA Finals.

If the shooter makes it then everyone says "look at what selfless superstar - knowing the right basketball play. Not forcing a shot over 3 players."

If they miss then "you're the star - you need to want it. Jordan would never give up the last shot."

I watched the replay. When Ace takes the pass at the top of the arc at 0:43, there’s nobody within 10 feet of him. He's open to take the trey cleanly but decides to dribble into traffic and then pass it.

Bailey was playing with some pain near the end of the game.Maybe that was the reason he didn't take the shot.
He did seem slightly hobbled near the end, but he stayed in the game and was running pretty well, so I still think he could have (should have) taken that shot.

Here is the most unfortunate part of all this and a sign of how bad the portal transfers are performing, does anyone think Martini would have made the three? I have zero confidence in him right now that he would have made it. I watched Hayes missing threes yesterday that he should have knocked down. The portal transfers of Martini, Hayes, and Acuff (except for his ND game, but done nothing other than that) have been absolute zeroes as we have stepped up in competition on the schedule. We need more out of all three of them. Martini might possibly fall behind in the rotation and give way to Dylan Grant, things need to improve.

Probably need to give Acuff another few weeks to make a judgement like that given he broke his foot and missed 2-3 months of practice

He’s at least shown a couple glimpses and I think is the biggest loss at the moment based on expectations but probably has best chance to turn it around

I am just speaking to what we have seen thus far and gotten out of the portal players. Acuff has given us nothing. But I agree with you he likely has the most upside and room for growth. Martini unfortunately might not be up to the task. Hayes needs to knock down those threes that he had against A&M. I am confident he will. My concern with Acuff is that we are relying that a health and conditioning issue will change for the better for him and then he will be good as new. We don’t know if that will happen, this could be the Acuff we have for this season. I assume (and hope) his health will improve, but the problem with injury/health is that nothing is a 100% guarantee.

Martini has made 41% of the threes he has taken this season.

He also went a total of 0-2 (both 3 pointers) in Vegas with over 43 minutes logged.

He didn’t take a single shot against ND or Texas A&M in 24 total minutes.

Definitely not the guy I want taking that shot regardless of what his 3 pt % is through the season.
