Laviano now rated #1 qb in Big Ten by ESPN

Rutgers' major problem is DLine. We just don't have big bodies there to win against the elite teams.
The Oline didn't play well against PSU but it needs some depth.

I think the frustration with the QB situation is that KF will never give Rettig a fair shot. He looked good against Norfolk and then ,poof, never to be seen again. I personally would like to see what he could have done with Carroo in the line up.....Flood will stick with Nova, I mean Laviano, for the rest of this season, no matter how he preforms , that's his MO

And Rettig will probably transfer again wondering why he chose to go here in the first place.....

Let's face it: Laviano would be the perfect QB for this team if we didn't have back-up caliber defensive backs starting. It's no slight to the back-ups either -- it's not their fault they have been shoved into the fire.

Please stop. Rettig is one missed block from being starter. We're lucky to have him and he'll get back in this year

Give it a rest for one week. Laviano played well. The defense played great. We lost by one touchdown to a top 5 team.
Defense played great????? Did you see how they just drove down the field and scored after we tied it with under 5 minutes to go? People love to criticize the QB but the defense always gets a free pass. Mind boggling!

Laviano played a nice game, but Cook showed why he should be 1st round pick..we haven't seen such clutch 3rd down conversions, and difficult ones at that, since Terry Bridgewater (and the refs) stole the Sugar Bowl berth in 2012

LOL ESPN? You mean the guys that tried to tell us that Christian Sackenberg is the greatest QB in the history of college football and a lock for #1 overall pick?
Even ESPiN is backing away from that one but they still have SEC as the best conference in the world!

Oh yeah, he is the top QB in the B1G. Right. There are four teams in our division who are 2-0. CL is 0-2. Do you really think any other team wants CL for their QB?

Besides being 0-2 and 1-3 FBS RU is ahead of only MD in points scored. And they fired their coach.

Wake up! Completion percentages don't win football games.
Ball control does not win football games unless your defense is lights out.
Why do you think the hot teams in college football like Oregon (not this year) TCU, Baylor etc. emphasize offense. The goal is to score more than your opponent.

RU is scoring 22 points per game and giving up 27. We don't need a QB who completes 70% of his passes, we need a QB who scores more points than the defense gives up.

Someone please pass this message on to HCKF
.

Love your support but as a fan you must learn there are 23 other players and a staff of coaches that add to the win/lost of a football game. and as for "we need a quarterback who score more points", what about the other 10 people on offense they must block better and catch better and run better. The QB did a great job for what he was handed.
But you smell "old timer" like a disgruntled senile old fart that just has no clue how the game is played and won. You are just bitching to bitch because you as an old dying troll

When someone says Chris Laviano is 0-2 you know the rest of the post will be pure BS. Rutgers is 0-2, not Laviano. You do realize it's a team game right?

The manure level at this place just keeps growing and growing.

Agree on TE and screen passes.. but Goodwin caught 3 passes. Maybe the saying is "lying about statistics is for losers".

I like Laviano. I wish he had gotten more experience while Nova was being coddled and mismanaged. I think Laviano is better than Nova. But I suspect Rettig is better than Laviano.

When was he going to get time instead of Nova? As a true freshman, high school senior?

Yes, I feel bad for our kids who gets bashed - like Rocket Williams, Chase Dodd and now ... Heyden Rettig.
And which one of these guys proved themselves to be the better man for the job? I love these kids too but they had their chances. The staff isn't intentionally trying to screw Rettig. Nor was the staff at LSU

Geeze Dude. He's only a couple years older than me. Agree with your feelings but we old guys deserves some love too lol.

Now get off my damn lawn whippersnapper!

First, Mr. Imbazza, one of the things I learned at Rutgers was that in debate or discussions, name calling, personal attacks and generally denigrating your opposite number is a fall back position for people whose argument isn't good enough to win the point.

Second, FYI, there are only 11 players on offense at any one time, and if you think they are all equal in importance to the performance of the offense and the number of points scored, then you are the one who has no clue about how the game is played. There is a reason why QBs are the most recruited players. It is the same reason that QBs have won most of the Heisman trophies. It is also the reason that QBs are by far the highest paid players in the NFL.

Third, if you examine the recruiting levels of MSU and RU you would see that they are closer than you would expect, except at one position.

Finally, if you fairly evaluate the game on Saturday, you would note that the teams were relatively even (tied in the last minute) except for one position. If you don't think that Connor Cook is the primary reason that MSU is 6-0 you are delusional. Is CL the primary reason RU is 0-2, I will leave that decision up to you.

It NEVER ends, from Teel to Nova to Laviano. Being a Rutgers fan is tough...other Rutgers fans make it even tougher.

We have always had our share of uninformed critics. With our fan base having grown exponentially the past decade or so there are just many more of them now and they have the internet to air the complaints. I cannot recall a time when people were not calling for a different QB (or coach) as if it would make for an undefeated season. Even WCTC announcer Ray Lucas who seems to me to be a somewhat harsh critic of Laviano was not above criticism during his playing days. During his 4 years we were 20 wins and 23 losses, with very few of the wins coming against current power five conference members. For those interested, here are Ray's and Chris' career stats.

Cmp Att Pct Yds Y/A AY/A TD Int Rate
Laviano 98 152 64.5 1109 7.3 6.7 9 6 137.4
Lucas 514 908 56.6 5896 6.5 6.0 43 30 120.2

The point of this exercise is that the jury is still out on Laviano. Anyone jumping to a conclusion that he is doomed or that he will be the second coming of Christ is just kidding themselves. He may end up being great. He may end up mediocre. He may lose the starting spot to Rettig or Russo or someone we can't even predict now. Let's just enjoy the ride in the meantime.

Please stop with the stats---This isn't fantasy football. Some would be happy to start topics that CL completed 80% of his short passes, but we put up 21 pts or less, and e give up more than 21 pts.

Issue is did we win, and if not, did we give I our best shot with weapons available.

can Fridge spend some 'consulting hours' & get this worked out? can McDaniels?
Was scanning quickly through the posts and, at first, read the above as "can Fridge spend some consulting hours and get this worked out? Call McDonald's". Which caused me to choke on some hot tea I was drinking. LOL

This. I would slightly change it to we need an offense that scores more points than the defense gives up. Laviano is not responsible for the performance of the offensive line.

OR.. change to an offensive scheme and play-calling system that supports this style of QB play. If we got the next Joe Montana, lets play the Niners' west coast offense system.

I know Flood must have been thinking. wow.. we got all these competent runningbacks and a question mark at QB.. lets run the ball. But damn.. MAKE ADJUSTMENTS to what works.

Rettig is likely the better QB for the offense that Flood insists on running. But he won't let us see if that is true or not.. it is insane.

I'm impressed with how quickly he stopped the panic throws he was making. With Nova sometimes it was white knuckles. I hope Laviano keeps steady there.

The broken toy room never ceases to amaze me. It is easy to find, since I always see the same toys in it.

Where in my post did I say any of those guys were/are better and where did I say the staff was/is trying to intentionally screw the kids? All I'm saying is that while Teel, Nova and now Laviano got slammed, the opposite is true for the kids the other camp was arguing for - Rocket, Dodd, Rettig, etc. Can't be hypocritical by claiming outrage for folks slamming Laviano while being ok when it is Rettig getting slammed.
