They stated that on 19 pass plays he was sacked, hit , or heavily pressured Along with several drops on the passes he was able to throw..

Can't change the whole OL. Can change the QB.
Yes, the OL sucked, but so did he. Half of those sack or hits were because he doesn't get rid of the ball. And when he did...doink. He simply isn't a D1 P5 QB. There is a full resume to view now, and it ain't pretty. He is clearly the worst P5 qb in the game.

I don't blame him though, he is what he is. Flood is trying to make him or believes he is something he isn't. It isn't Laviano's fault. He just wants to play. It's Flood's fault for allowing him to.

I know Applefield and Heeman got in late but what does that tell you about our depth there? I agree that we did a poor job picking up the blitz but the overall offensive product was again terrible. If Armstrong does not throw the picks I am not sure we score a TD.

I noticed many times a linebacker would come right up over the center and then blitz most of the time. It didn't seem like we made any adjustment for this and plays got blown up. How about more wide formations and allowing our qb to change to a quick out to a WR in this situation?

sometimes I can't tell what is Laviano checking down or what is uber-conservative play calling or what is the offense just not being able to do what it really wants to do because of lack of execution, game speed, etc.

In the end it results in stuff like this...21-7 right before the half and we get the ball in NU territory after an interception with just over a minute or so to go in the half. A chance to change the game with a score plus we get the kickoff after halftime. 2nd and 20 in NU territory and we throw a 5 yard pass to the sideline. 3rd and 15 and we throw a 4 yard pass to the sideline. Wasting time and gaining little we are forced into a 4th down and 11 heave to the end zone as time expires. I know time was precious, but why are we running such short routes? Are we trying to win the game or just complete passes. The defense will give you those completions because they know you can't win that way...don't we? So many times it feels like we don't make in game changes when there is a chance to win and other times we play like we are just hoping a team doesn't hang 40 on us. Flood just doesn't play to win and he missed a chance to make it a game right before the half.

Our RBs have not done a good job consistently picking up blitzes. I have seen too many half hearted whiffs.

Even if the line stinks, the RBs can't block and there's bad play calling CL has demonstrated that he does not have the ability to overcome any of those deficiencies.

I think CL is probably a great kid to coach. He's taught to check down and he does. He's taught to slide and he does. He probably grades out very well on these plays. I have no doubt that he also gives 100% on the field. But, some guys have it and others don't.

Ok, so the OL stinks. So does the entire defense. Please tell me what particular unit we have that you believe is playing well? This is year 4 of the Flood regime and the lack of talent and execution is startling. The entire program is going in the wrong direction. That said, there is no excuse for Laviano to still be playing. He is completely over-matched and has been for 4+ games and counting now.

He's gone 4-5 games without a passing touchdown. He's had multiple games with less than 100 yards passing. More fumbled snaps that big plays.

I just cannot believe that ANY COACH that honestly wants to win would look at these game tapes and say, "yeah, there's absolutely no reason to see what a guy like Rettig (or anyone else) could do"

I can't imagine a single coach other than Flood sticking with a starter after a series of games like these. I could care less that we've played good defenses, Nebraska WAS NOT a good defense. Mind boggling. Even if the gap in talent between Laviano and Rettig were as wide as the gap between Nova and Laviano last year there is no way you can justify not giving the backup qb a chance to spark the offense when the offensive production is so poor in numerous consecutive games. AND THE GAP BETWEEN LAVIANO AND RETTIG WAS VERY NARROW HEADING INTO THE SEASON. Clearly the qb position is not the only problem this team has but this offense needed change. How the f*ck do you keep sending this kid out there and not send a new qb in? I don't care if it's Janarion Grant playing the qb position. CL is not the answer. Flood makes it look like Rettig wasn't even pushing for the position.

Flood needs to go asap.
