It may sound far-fetched, but seriously if you were a coach -- whether or not you entered the season believing you could be fired (and after a decent season last year, Flood probably felt he was completely safe) -- wouldn't you make a change after some of the games Laviano has had? He's gone 4-5 games without a passing touchdown. He's had multiple games with less than 100 yards passing. More fumbled snaps that big plays.
I just cannot believe that ANY COACH that honestly wants to win would look at these game tapes and say, "yeah, there's absolutely no reason to see what a guy like Rettig (or anyone else) could do"
Rettig has NEVER been on the field at the same time as Carroo. Just think about that.
It's one thing to believe in Laviano if he's giving you adequate games. It's another if he's throwing for 2 interceptions, 0 touchdowns, and less than 100 yards.
I could be dead wrong, but I firmly believe Flood is simply being stubborn because he chose Laviano as the guy and doesn't want to be proven wrong. I can't imagine a single coach other than Flood sticking with a starter after a series of games like these. I could care less that we've played good defenses, Nebraska WAS NOT a good defense. The results weren't much better. If it wasn't for a few defensive picks, RU probably wouldn't have come close to scoring.
