Hey, sorry it took so long, starters were the same as last week with Michaeli at defense and Vercruysse at attack. UMBC played a very slow and deliberate offense which is what I expect to see out of teams that can not run with us. Overall our defense played very well only giving up 3 goals in the first half when both teams had there starters played. Rutgers was doing a lot of experimenting with their midfield lines all day and in the 2nd quarter they replaced Vercruysse with Ryan Schnacte, I thought he created a spark as we immediately got a couple of good chance at the net. They played 6 different ssdm including giving Nordhausen a shortie for awhile (kind of interesting to see a kid 6'7" play with a SS). We saw for the first time in a scrimmage Tommy Coyne (Joe Peterson did not dress again) he played on both the 2nd middie line and at attack we saw Freshman Ryan Gallagher play for the first time also and you can see why they like him so much. At one point the offense had 1 senior 2 sophomores and 3 freshmen playing at the same time.
Overall, the scrimmage was very similar to last week's as both teams made a concerted effort to slow RU down and it worked for the most part, I feel like RU's goal was to work on the ir 6v6 offense as they prated 6v6 and emo and mdd after the scrimmage. You have to remember that all coaches go into games with different agendas in term of what they want to see and I do not know BB goal for yesterday but for me the defense looked solid again as did the goaltending, and the offense still needs a little developing, which is not all that surprising as it is early in the season.
Finally, next week the team opens withRobert Morris who plays a completely different style than either of the teams they scrimmage. RMU wants to plays at warp speed, they carry around 18 Canadians which means that the will be a dangerous team but it also means that we will be allowed to play more of the kind of game that suits us right now. It should be an excellent high scoring fun game.
I will answer questions as I see them but, If it is something that is not public or might hurt the team I won't
