Legendary Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer learned about burnout the hard way

Retire, after she just brought in the number 8 recruiting class. You think they wouldn't bolt, if she retires.

Somebody, either an assistant coach or someone in marketing ,has got to start doing SOMETHING about reaching out to the zillions of New Jersey girls, youth coaches, and parents who are involved in youth and high school basketball. The crowds are really, really bad. The other night was 1,300. We have to find ways to reach out to New Jerseyans and get people in the seats. We have NINE million people !I know parking is Free, but maybe lower the prices and all kids under the age of 12 get in for Free. Now that the RWJ Barnabas Center is open, The RAC should have more spots open for youth and high school tournaments. People need to become familiar with THEIR State University early on.:Rutgers:Basketball: :Hoops::CHOP:

Because everyone is tired is watching this awful brand of hoops. Got great crowds in the 2000s but those days are over. Its a dead program and cvs turned the fans off

Fans wont come back until her full influence is gone

I was there the other night. Sorry, but not by any stretch were there 1300 people in the building. If that’s a paid number, then there’s a large percentage that didn’t show. Maybe 25-30%.

Earlier this season during the fast start to the season, I commented that I thought this was one of CVS's best coaching jobs as she had a mostly new team that practically had to be introduced to one another. And they were playing like a cohesive unit. RU began the conference season with 4 road victories.

Now, with the season two-thirds over, the team has regressed significantly and I can no longer say that. The teamwork seems to have dropped off dramatically. This kind of thing has happened rather consistently over the past several seasons - the fast start, then the major drop-off. Prior to this season, the drop-off occurred during a swing through the Midwest but this year it began at home with the losses to IU and MSU, and has continued on the road, with today's loss being the worst in the conference season so far.

I like the suggestion others have made that an offensively-minded assistant or associate coach be hired with the job description explicitly stating that the expectations of the new hire revolve around generating a much more efficient (and exciting to watch) offense.

Fans want wins, and wins by decent margins.

When we had good crowds, we had wins and a feeling that we were in national contention. And a better defense than now, I believe. Also, the idea that we could pull an upset now and again.

In any case, it isn't the "awful brand of hoops" it is the results.

I'm in Arizona now, and I can assure you that when fans fled under the awful prior coach, it wasn't because the team looked for large stretches of the game that they didn't know what sport they were playing, even though that was true. They left because the team was winning less than 10 games a year and less than 5 in conference.
