Let's be realistic: When do you fire Flood?

I swear many of you are completely delusional. Rutgers has had one year where we finished ranked. One - and we didn't even win the basketball conference we were in. Two years later Schiano had us missing a bowl with 4 wins. Some of you wanted him gone too though no one remembers that now. He dumped us like yesterdays newspaper as soon as he got something better and took most of our best coaches with him. So much for looking out for us. Flood was stuck with no coaches, no real money and no support from most of you and all he did was win. Took us to a bowl or two, in case any of you stopped watching the games because we got stuck with him. His first year in a real football conference and he is bowling. He hired good young coaches and recruiters. He brought in the Fridge. He brought in EJ and recruiting has changed it's face. Young, fresh, modern, social media, outstanding graphics, themes, new dieas - hell you all even complain about the uniforms the kids love so much. Give me the old rags we used to wear. Bring back Schiano even though Flood is giving us the same results. We have a really good class of recruits this year. Flood has done a great job in building upon what Schiano started but you all want more. You all think we will bring in Harbaugh and blink, we will be ranked and undefeated and feared throughout the land. It will all just happen, with no work and no pain, no chop. In a time when the students and the program need you, you sit in front of your computer and you whine and complain and you cry, like the 10 year with the Madden team that regrets ever having drafted Peyton. We gain 500 yards, win and you complain we didn't win by more. It will take years of hard work, sacrifice and commitment for us to achieve what Ohio State has, what Penn State has...what you want. If we don't stand up for ourselves and support our team and our coach when we stumble, when the people that want us to fail have scored a point, we will never succeed. If Rutgers fires Flood for what's happened so far, you can write off at least the next two years for sure. None of these recruits will trust this school. The players, the recruits, and most of the fans love what Flood's been doing. They all hate the stupidity. Go ahead, support the stupidity for some Madden like satisfaction. No one we hire will fix what we did to Flood, the one man who fought for his players and was building a true program to be proud of. You all act like we deserve to be Ohio State or Penn State. We don't. We can work for it and earn it but even Ohio State money will not buy what you want. We need to build this program from the ground up. We need to get the administration on board. Supporting their agenda, the agenda of the union, the media, will never get us anything more than what we have now. Flood has done nothing that deserves this nonsense. I'm tired of all this instant gratification, judgmental, and dysfunctional behavior on this board. Flood is our coach and we should support him until he's not.

No one is acting like we deserve to be Ohio State.... However, we should see improvement from year to year if we have the right pieces in place. Instead we are going backwards.... No discipline on the field and no discipline off the field.... Poor coaching and poor play ..... This year in my opinion was just as important as last year. It was the year that we proved that last year wasn't a fluke. Instead we are in serious danger of reverting back to Pre Schiano days.... Is it really unrealistic to ask for moderate improvement year over year given the local high school talent that is available? It's not like we are in New Mexico, Connecticut or South Dakota.

I didn't see Kyle on the field coaching vs Kansas. Just what did he do at the game that displeased some of you? He did not call a single play or adjustment and yet we have people blaming him for things on gameday.

If any changes may be made or contemplated it will come at the end or near the end of the season and will probably be in the form of a resignation and settlement.

And why didn't you see Kyle on the field. What did he do yesterday to earn a paycheck?[/QUOTE]

We will have to disagree - but I think we are looking at this entirely differently .

I'm starting with the assumption that we take Barchi & Co at face value and that punishments delivered make the email & contact now a closed matter. Kind of figure that Barchi , after having levied the 3 game suspension & $50 K fine calling the matter closed - is unlikely to turn around and say " on second thought we are still highly displeased so, we now want to terminate you"

Accordingly, for Flood to suddenly now get "walked" it would seem that there would need to be new & highly troubling matters to emerge in order to initiate a revisit of the termination question.... and this is the scenario that I would dread - some set of new heinous transgressions that further embarrass Rutgers - something so compromising that it would call for immediate removal.

I have a bad feeling there is more coming down the pike that will embarass us more. And I'm also getting the feeling that JH is not long for her job either. I have no inside info just a gut feeling. I think Barchi and the BOG are PISSED at the negative publicity.

It
certainly hope this is only a hunch that you have - not that I'm wanting to retain Flood - but just can't imagine any scenario where Flood gets walked in the next 2 weeks that is not another painful ugly stinking mess for Rutgers.
it will be this coming week during the bye. The AD is going too.

It will be during the bye week I promise you one of the blocks has already fallen
Heard on the radio broadcast that Sciano was at the Hall of Fame Dinner. Was he in town just for the chicken?

Do we really need a fire Flood post every hour? If you want to be realistic, flood is not getting fired because of anything we do on the field this year no matter how much you wish it. I think you need help.

I sooo agree,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,tired of the little minds hacking away...lets just enjoy the season

Also I was a Flood supporter before this season but no more. I would be more than happy to see him canned after the season but we do not need the circus of a mid season firing. His latest class is strong so let's at least keep him around to reduce the possibility of mass defections.

What the heck did Julie do to deserve getting fired? The slack jawed doofus playing Cloak and Dagger in Princeton is not on her.

Bad publicity centered around the athletic department. I'm not saying she should or should not be let go based on this, but the BOG and alumni are not happy with the negative publicity.

So if this happens then good for you for having some inside info and I will defer to you for any program related discussions. If this doesn't happen then will you disqualify yourself from any future "fire Julie and Flood" conversations?

You seem pretty sure of yourself so you shouldn't have any problem with this proposition.

He posted this rumor about JH/KF in premium and at least half of it and the reasoning for it was already debunked by John O. and the post was deleted. Not sure why it popped up here again. I guess we'll see what happens, if anything.

Lets hope he does enough so he gets lets go in about 3-5 seasons from now.

it'll be interesting to see where these flood supporters hide after we have to face ohio state and michigan state. hopefully he's gone before then.

They won't hide, they will just say Flood has more integrity than D'Antonio and Meyer and the loss was on JH/GS/aurora borealis/people on this board and that we should just wait more time.

If he does get fired it will be at the end of the season. It would be a huge disservice to the kids if he is let go during the season. Nothing good can happen this isn't Pro football. You have to see if he can turn things around first. It would be a huge mistake for the Administration to fire him during the season and would bring nothing but more bad press. At the end of the season you can point to the record and off the field incidents. A good AD will have their list ready and have already contacted agents about interest if the season continues to tank. If others get fired you desire add them to interviews and pick your coach. You don't rush this process unless it's truly the one and only one you desire. However, we have seen RU screw this up before.

Running backs, receivers, special teams. There's three. What have YOU done that's an improvement? Boo louder?
First, your "rebuttal" makes no sense. In what way are any of those three positions better than they were under our last head coach? Honestly, a very good argument can be made the exact opposite way for each. Second, I'm not paid by the Athletic Department to improve the football team so I think I've done just about as much as you to improve the program, absolutely nothing, but this still being America and all I am just gonna go ahead and feel free to ask you exactly what "very good things" you mean.

If you can't pass against a team like Kansas you won't be able to pass against anyone. Let's face it, this was a glorified scrimmage. We should have taken advantage of it by either giving Rettig some action or giving Laviano some passing plays.

Yes, we ran through them. And if you are so afraid of losing the game maybe that's the gameplan you set up, but if you're trying to win additional games this season... maybe you should try adding a passing game. They took the ball out of the QB's hands for the second half. That doesn't bode well for the rest of the season.
Keeping the QB question aside...The O line did a decent job. Made some holes for the run game to have some success.

Which in turn should open up the passing game.

Now if Laviano can hit the quick crossing routes and make the correct reads, he can flourish. If he doesn't than I'd rather see a deep threat type of O.

Question still remains if our line can offer the protection for a deep passing game.

That said, it all comes down to front line play. Something we have sorely lacked in this young season.

I concur...it will happen soon. Quite possibly in the next 2 weeks. I also here his boss is in serious jeopardy of falling on the same "sword".
That thought is just too good to be true. It makes too much sense to happen at Rutgers. Instead RU will allow the controversy surrounding an incompetent coach and an impotent AD to fester all season and continue to divide the fan base while putting the recruiting in a danger zone.

Fire him once we get a replacement interviewed and signed.
Coaches do not interview for a job when the current coach is still there. Most coaches wont do it as a sign of respect. It would be pretty sleazy for the school to do and you would have to be quite a sc&mbag to interview. Having said that, I can see the incompetents at Rutgers trying to do this.

Lets be realistic here. On the field we are 2-2 and at best will be 4-6 after the Nebraska game. It is also very possible that RU will be 2-8 or 3-7 after the Nebraska game. If it is the latter, do you wait until the end of the season to fire Flood or do you give yourself a head start at finding a new HC and have a better chance of keeping the '16 class together?
I would say it doesnt really matter as long as its no later than the Monday after the MD game.

We arent going to find an HC worth a damn before the season is over unless we are hiring Schiano (which I think would be a mistake without at least testing the waters to see how else is out there). So do the prep work throughout the season, but give Flood the dignity (and indignity) of playing out the string.

I could also see it happening for PR purposes if Nebraska is our 7th loss and its a blowout in front of a less than full stadium. Basically just to say, we are serious about FB and won't accept this kind of crap. It would send a bit of a message, although it wouldnt have much impact on the end result of who we get, or whether recruits stay no board. Another reason to do it would be to put the donors in a bind (i.e. even if they supported Flood - now they know that they have no choice but to either get behind hiring a great new coach, or being petulant babies and sinking the program for another half a decade by not supporting it.)

What we dont want is a situation where we go 5-7 and there is alot of hemming and hawing trying to drum up money from donors for a few weeks only to fire him after the primo choices have gone elsewhere.

Agree with Rudge22, we have never been strong in-state.

Not that is a huge issue IMOP...focus regions should be:
1) Tri-state Area
2) Big Ten Region
3) Nationally

People are overly fixated on NJ.
Good point. We should give up on the area where we have a natrual advantage and focus on say Pennsyvlania, Ohio, and Florida - defintely easier to recruit against PSU, OSU, and FSU/Miami/Florida in their home states than in NJ. Since it isnt actually easier, then we will need to find diamonds in the rough - but thats easier in NJ too - where we see the players alot more.

In short - if you are in a top 10 recruiting state, and your strategy relies on not recruiting that state - you are doing it wrong and probably need a new coach. And don't bring up Schiano. He used Florida and the wider region as a supplement - but his focus was NJ - remember the famous meeting when he was first hired. I dont think there was a single year that he did as bad in NJ as Flood has in all four of his classes.

it'll be interesting to see where these flood supporters hide after we have to face ohio state and michigan state. hopefully he's gone before then.

They won't hide. Get ready for it, because the 2015 SPIN will be in effect soon.

Last year, before the season even started, I said here that we should all get ready for the SPIN - the propaganda machine rode the notion that Rutgers would be lucky to win 3 games entering B1G play. How can a team that only won 6 games in the American (aka CUSA 2.0) handle their first season in the B1G. 2 wins. 3 wins. 4 wins. The propaganda spin was on. In the mean time what did some of us predict? The 2012 team was very talented and severely under achieved. With a seasoned coach like the Fridge on board, the ingredients were there for a 8-10 win B1G campaign. And lo and behold what happened? Of course the successful campaign played right into the spinsters plans. It worked to perfection. Flood received accolades for a "successful" season and was even extended. Did everyone remember the timing of Flood's extension? Right before we played the big boys? Under promise and over deliver! Bravo! Played to perfection.

So, this year, what will be the new spin? Ready? Get a pencil and write this down.

The new spin this year will be as follows:
  • Lack of a compliance culture led to all these kids getting in trouble - the problem isn't Flood - it's the AD office!!! (although I missed all those kids from the other sports getting in trouble though ..... oh well, no matter, this will be one of the spins - blame Julie!!!).
  • These kids betrayed Flood. How can you win when you have this much turnover in your team? That's not Flood's fault. He can't babysit all these kids. Besides these bad eggs were Schiano's kids anyway (don't laugh I already heard this excuse). Next year, Flood will have his "good kids" and they will make you proud of the program again.
  • The B1G is too tough this year. (This will be similar to 2013 spin of "playing all those NFL quarterbacks" - CUSA 2.0, but nevertheless NFL QBs!!!). So, yes, the B1G is too tough and Flood shouldn't be punished for it. OMG, we are playing the number 1 and number 2 teams in the country!!! How is Flood supposed to deal with that?
What is sad with this whole fiasco is the brothers and sisters (Rutgers alumns) and die hard supporters who can't see it for what it is. Lies, deceit and manipulation. It's been going four year now. [sigh]

Bad publicity centered around the athletic department. I'm not saying she should or should not be let go based on this, but the BOG and alumni are not happy with the negative publicity.
I could buy that. She's never had the full support of RU's decision makers, so tey might use this whole thing as an exuse to clean house. Although the timing is bad - you don't really want to have a committee or interim AD hiring the next FB coach, but you dont really have time to fire Julie, hire someone new, and have them get up to speed enough to make that decision either.
