Let's put a wrap on this

Let’s be real — there are only two story lines to the final four: (1) Miami and NIL; and (2) how the heck did all these lower seeded teams get here. There are no great coaches in the mix so it appears that Danny is the beneficiary of the media trying to find story #3. Father was a famous coach, DH yells and screams, etc. BTW, if Kansas St managed to make the Final Four everyone would be talking about J Tang instead.

Talking heads just filling airtime.
Mostly true. Larranga is a great coach, though. He took George Mason to the Final Four without them having to pay a player 6 figures.

I like Larranaga, too. I think he is usually a class act and his run at George Mason was fun to watch. While I hate the NIL-based Miami success, I think I'll root for old Jim anyway. With two schools in the Final 4 so close geographically and almost no blue blood interest/attraction/tradition in at least three of four finalists for the average fan, do you think the national ratings for the last three games of the year will be good or historically bad? Not sure whether a Hurley (to me a negative draw; a whining, complaining, even more poorly behaved, younger version of Boeheim lol) or UConn is of national interest. Will be interesting to see how many watch the games. GO RU

It will be interesting to see what the ratings look like. These teams aren't exactly national brands.

You get a 65 degree day sat withoit rain the 6pm game with Florida Atlantic/sds gets rough numbers on the east coast

What Danny is doing for UConn is amazing but what Pike is doing for Rutgers is Miracle.
Pike had tougher job than Danny. Pike reminds me of When Greg took Rutgers and had them ranked #6 in the country and picking up most of the top players in Jersey. If Pike stays and ends his career here, it should remind everyone what Greg could have done, had he not left...

anyway, Pike was and is perfect guy for Rutgers and I want no one else. Future looks super bright with all the commits and possible commits.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say 17 and 18 year old kids don't give a shit if Danny looks unprofessional at times. their glasses are a little different than the glasses old guys have on here. he's passionate as can be and wants to win and isn't that concerned with how his outbursts look.
They'd rather be yelled at in the Final Four than hugged after a first round NIT loss

Weird statement. Has Hurley ever done anything bad?

Who are bad character coaches in your view? How have recruits responded to them?
@RUsojo
Behind a paywall,

Interesting article about D Hurley.

Generally quite sympathetic.

Doesn't increase my affection for him, but does increase my understanding of some of the challenges he faced as #3 player on a family of alphas. I am sorry for the demons he has and/or had to battle.

Agree. I like JL a lot. In fact, I see his career trajectory as a blueprint for what Pike will do here. That said, he’s not a “personality” coach.

Why would UConn be Hurley’s dream job? He didn’t play there. I would not assume that Kentucky or UNC can’t come along in a few years and snatch him away. Pitino left Kentucky. Rich Rod left his alma mater West Va after getting them one WTF game away from the championship (where UConn stands right now—they just need to take care of biz to get to the title game). I never thought Schiano would ever leave. I don’t think Hurley staying at UConn is something anyone can bank on. We cannot assume he’s Joe Paterno.
He wins on Monday and he's probably there for life, short of getting an NBA shot.

Story line now is 99% Hurley and the "Uconn rebirth". Sickening

I am not quite sure Syracuse is hurting, they have some talented pieces, I think Boeheim mailed in this past season. I have no idea what Adrian Autry can or will do, but they did pick off 2022 5* kid, JJ Starling, who was at ND this past season and scored around 12PPG.

The concept of UConn is 75% based on the return to the Big East and 25%, shedding some players that didn't fit (Corey Floyd Je and Diggins) and getting smaller school portal kids who didn't need the ball to be important.

UConn in the Big East, damages Cuse, St John's and especially Seton Hall. But I don't think this is a situation that impacts RU. As much as St John's will win immediately with Pitino, it is going to be a wash in the Big East. St John's up, Seton Hall, Villanova and Providence, all potentially down in the next year or 2.
Exactly. It will also be interesting to see does UCONN have the $$ to keep their team together.

If the $EC is trying to do the $EC thing with Cliff… I would think a few of these UCONN and other Final 4 players will be targeted in the same way. Maybe Miami is the one exception…

Long winded point/question…. Does UCONN have the $$ to fend that off??

From another Jersey guy who left...I bet they are friends off the court. Did Bobby and a Jay overlap at Duke, certainly together in that network?

Not exactly a neutral source.

Why are you presenting for UConn's Danny Hurley on a Rutgers board?

He is a polarizing figure around here. That's unlikely to change.
We have a lot of JC posters….
