LOVE COACHING STAFF

when was last time we had a coach that used a strategy to draw fouls...and when was the last time we had the personnel...probably way back to the early Wenzel years.

They get it done without yelling or screaming. So fun to be a fan right now.
Pikiell and crew are the real deal. When SP gets some cream of the crop recruits in here that he can coach up, watch out.

Young seems to be really making an impression on the guys. Corey seems to give him real props every interview.

Wenzel was underrated as a coach. Did a nice job with Jacksonville before RU. Recruiting was his downfall.

Still baffled by all the experience with the basketball program and such inexperience with the football program. Hate to state the obvious...but it's like Knight and Day.

Uh, when was the last time we had a strategy, period? We never did get "Waters Pressure."
Long time ago I had a Waters Pressure tee shirt. The excuse was always Rutgers never had the players to use full court pressure defense.

GREAT JOB by Pikiell and staff but they R gonna have to prove themselves thRU March vs Wenzel's 1st year with that Wenzel, Jordan and Van Gundy combo. That team was supposed to finish last in the A-10-as in 10th out of 10. They won it all and made it to the 1st round of the NCAAs vs BJ Armstrong and Iowa. I was too sick and emotionally from the flu from the A-10 Championship game (likely) to get off the couch and turn on the TV for that one.

Though a bit a fish out of water in the East Waters may have well gotten it done given some time. However from what I remember R AD had a h*rd on for Fred Hill Jr. (who was a total disaster in any respect) and was worried the later would become the head coach at Seton Hall.,

He may be and I am really impressed but I'm still sentimental and dig Bob Wenzel....

Was Assistant Membership Chair for the Court Club a few years under Bob. Great guy and I'm recently emulating him by wearing my sweats everywhere. In one of R executive committee meetings he seemed bitter that he couldn't recruit the St. Anthony's types out of North Jersey. Said he didn't like the players' attitudes.

His downfall was his inability to recruit off the 89-90 team hurt badly. Dabbs was an overall bust (at best never lived up to his potential) while Duncan and Hughes were at best an equal offset for Savage and Dadika. The former (R co-MVP of that 89-90 team) was essentially benched for Duncan and Hughes and it seemed to hurt team chemistry. The final straw was Duncan falling apart after being "jawed" at by that Arizona State played during that 1st round NCAA game. We haven't been back to the tourney since!

I (and so does Wenzel) wish Wenzel had a chance to coach and recRUit in the Big East.

Dabbs was an overall bust??? He averaged 14 points and eight rebounds, had a great shooting percentage and even though he did not block shots, was one of the best defensive posts we ever had. He was the Atlantic 10 newcomer of the year. If he was on this team he would be the starting center, without a doubt. There was a reason he was also a starter on a 20+ win Final eight ACC team. Did you actually watch any games that year?

80 I guess I forgot some. However I do remember Dabbs once or twice "coming up short" when we needed him in a big game (NCAA or A-10 tourney?). I do vaguely remember being disappointed in him. The bottom line is that the Duncan, Hughes and Dabbs teams certainly didn't overachieve (like the 1989-90 team) and we didn't recruit off those seasons well/what was needed.

They announced today that Drew Meringer is leaving a OC of the football team. The football board is on fire. Some posters have brought up the basketball team's success in their arguements about the merits of the former OC's ablity. Their discussions point out very dramatically the difference in the two staffs. The bottom line is that one of the reasons the basketball team is doing as well as it is, even with the soft OOC schedule, is that this staff is an experienced group. An experienced HC with an experienced assistant staff as opposed to a young energetic inexperienced group on the football side. It is a very interesting and dynamic dichotomy.
