Match Thread: RU at Purdue, 1pm, BTNplus & Flowrestling:

With the sweep this weekend, this all but assures RU of a winning B1G dual season as Maryland absolutely sucks outside of Hemida and Baby J who Ash will maul. Correnti is Jeckyll and Hyde, which to be fair isn't necessarily all his fault as he's a tweener. We need to go all out to get Tyree Sutton next year at 197. I'd love to see RU sign Hemida as a SKWC resident next year to work with our big guys. Two matches to go in the regular season, and then the real season begins.

Just got back, watched the replay , and then read all the posts. Great to see Ashnault be Mobbin, Nick doing what he does best, and big wins from Gravina, Colucci, Metzler and Lipari.

I think after our home match against Michigan next Sunday (will be awesome !), that Coach Goodale will sit Suriano and Ashnault against Maryland. We should be able to win without them.

Can't wait to see Suriana vs Micic next Sunday.

And Anthony Ashnault's last match at the RAC is going to be emotional.

I hope there is a huge turnout for AA’s last home match! Wish I could be in Jersey for that.

what does "Mobbin" mean?

I would think we are going to see Micci vs Suriano.
Whoever wins the B10 tournament probably gets the #1 seed in NCAA

The match this week will have implications for the B10 Seeding
Currently (IMO)
1) Miccic
2) Desanto
3) Suriano

I don't think Miccic has anything to lose not wrestling Suriano in a dual.
The B10 tournament is where the critical match is (Just like Ashnault vs Jordan)

The only reason I can think of the Michigan coach sitting Micic against Suriano, is that it probably assures him the #1 seed at the Big10 tourney, giving him a potentially much easier semi final.

Right Now the Big 10 133 seeds probably look like this :

1. Micic, 2 DeSanto, 3. Suriano, 4 .Lizak. (others are Roman Bravo Young, Ben Thornton, Luke Pletcher)

As far as the criteria goes for how the Big10 does the seeding, I found this from a few years ago, not sure if anything has changed :

“They [The Big Ten] send you each team’s record and each team is responsible for seeding each weight class and they poll them together and add up the points,” Sanderson said of the process.

If any of coaches think there is something wrong with the seeding, they will state their case at the meeting and revote if needed. But in most instances, the seeds are pretty much set and very few changes need to be made prior to the tournament.

There is an unwritten criteria for seeding that the Big Ten coaches normally follow.

Head to head matches in the Big Ten matters the most. Sanderson said that national rankings really do not play a factor in how coaches seed.

The rest of the coaches in the conference can see each other’s ballot. This is done in an attempt to prevent anyone from voting their entire team No. 1 seeds."

RBY looks like a tough out,
I would think nick would rather face Austin Desanto in the semis over RBY.
I want to see that rematch with Austin.

B10's are going to be fun. Looking forward to a potential AA rematch with Jordan as well.

Why would Lizak be seeded over Pletcher?

Why would Lizak be seeded over Pletcher?

Pletcher beat Lizak by 1 point in Nov, so based on head to head, Pletcher would be 4, but still for Micic, it's an easier semifinal than facing Suriano or DeSanto (although he majored DeSanto last March at Nationals). I think Roman Bravo Young is better than both Lizak and Pletcher, but won't be ranked higher, he beat Pletcher just recently . The seeding after Micic, DeSanto, Suriano will be very interesting.

Pletcher wrestles Thornton of Purdue this weekend. Pletcher should win that and cement the 4 seed. Lizak is the 5. His losses are to Pletcher, Phillipi, Fix and DeSanto. If Thornton somehow wins Pletcher could drop significantly all the way to the 7 seed behind Lizak, Thornton and RBY. If Suriano beats Micic, Desanto would get the 1 seed, with Suriano the 2 and Micic the 3, most likely. I hope Nick and Micic wrestle next Sunday. It will be good to get a feel for Micic before the the tournaments.
