Matt Millen

He’s really bad as an announcer, has been for years. He should just go away and retire. I was shocked when I saw he was still there at the start.
Yeah the issue isn't about how much he praises or bashes Rutgers, it's that he just sucks at his job. He sometimes can't even be arsed to know the names of the players, saying things like "great play by the cornerback," and the one time he couldn't even remember that Rutgers is the Scarlet Knights.

I don't dislike Millen for anything he says but, damn, he's just so monotone and low energy. It's a tough listen when he does the games.

Not trying to be mean, but he honestly sounds like he could use some anti-depressants or something. Or a cup of coffee at the very least.

I've never had a single problem with Millen. Every game I've watched for the past four years at least he has seemed to go out of his way to be fair to the program. I never really understood the hate.

Agreed. I don’t know what people are looking for. He actually watches the game including line play and has insightful comments. It doesn’t matter to me that he doesn’t have our roster memorized. What matters is whether he’s noticing things that I may have otherwise missed.

Good thing I wasn't playing a drinking game where you had to drink when Millen said Rutgers finally has a QB.
I would have had to have my stomach pumped.
Amazing how he has gone from Public Enemy #1 to a friend of the program.
The TE comment was way out of left field. Especially comparing it to his beloved PSU.
There are times where he seems almost Madden lite. I could definitely see Madden saying cock nose.

And while he may not have the roster memorized he knows our team and its recent history better than any other announcer you're going to get outside of the local radio guys.

He's just a hard listen for me. "He looks good below the waist" - uh what?
Without Millen, we would never have the cock nose...which is an all time classic.
How could I forget about this lol

RU = tight end U according to Millen 😂
Weird, right? I tried to figure out how Millen got that idea.. I wondered if he ever played against Battaglia here... nope.. Millen drafted in 1980, Marco in 1996. So their paths didn't cross on the field. We played PSU in 77 78 and 79.. all PS wins.. one somewhat close at 26-10 but no real TE stats for those seasons stood out.. Someone named George Carter seemed to be the prime target but less than 20 receptions every season.

So.. my guess is Millen saw the Marco Battaglia practice complex and asked who he was.. or even met him.. and just decided to attach more meaning to it.

Millen's first WTF moment during the broadcast was when Howard punched it in and he said that Howard's OL was dominating the line of scrimmage. (they did on that play but no other play afaik)

I was like.. 😕😕😕😕😕

He’s improved a bit, it seems, not as annoying as he’s been in the past.

Is nice that he looks to find good things to say about both teams. The TE comment was laughably off the mark, not having had a notable TE since Kroft. But better to be off in a complimentary way than off in an insulting way, I guess.

When you get by the fact that he loves PSU with absolute loyalty and often says " if you're a fan of Rutgers .....", he's just OK.

He was about as nice as anyone could possibly be as to how much of an upgrade AK is over GW and ES from last season, without being overly mean towards those two who are just college kids. That does take some skill to do it as nicely as he did it.
I agree but how hard is that to do? I do it all of the time in Hoops too.

Millen knows more about talent evaluation than everyone on this board combined. He has been spot on about all of our guys who moved on to the NFL or "he has a chance" guys.

When Millen was GM of the Lions he drafted an Army player (Caleb Campbell) in 7th.
At the time (2008) that was unusual but Army allowed it.
Then the Navy protested and Campbell couldn't go to camp so Detroit pick was wasted.
I was sorry Millen caught shade for taking a chance on SA player.
Now its allowed again

Several things on Millen:

1) He has improved as an announcer, in general - and he spends a lot of time looking at OL and DL line play, which is appreciated, since most fans have trouble even knowing what to look for in that area.

2) He is a hopelessly over-the-top PSU fan when he is announcing one of their games.

3) He IS a fan of Schiano, generally, which helps when Schiano is the coach of RU.

4) The TE comment was ... well, ridiculous, of course ... a real brain fart by him. If anything, RU is DB U ... I think more RU players that were DB's made it to the NFL, and had real careers. Secondarily, maybe OL.

Sorry to disagree with most...just getting around to watching the replay. Ridiculously boring. If we all take a shot for "well done" or "nice job" we'd be wasted til 2050.

I do t think it was MM but someone kept making it sound like we were missing our top Irish LB- O’Toure lol

I'd say secondarily RB.
