OT: Airport sightings

P

Pablo didn’t mess around
wasnt Pablo but was a competitor. The girl I was dating at the time- her mother's family owned a emerald mine for generations- Dad had a shipyard. She always thought her guards were because of the Emeralds but found out, that wasn't the case.

She was a really cool person but very high maintenance. But, because she didn't know anything else.

She fought through a hard cancer battle in her 30's and one of the most remarkable humans I know.

It's funny- the real crazy AP sighting was the Patrick Ewing with my kids pretty much before everything else came about.

Obviously, between having a kid in the NFL and hanging out with him and the team and guys coming over etc...Being a lifelong sports fan- some of these things were surreal. I just happened to fall in love with the right person at the right time.

But the crazy Celebrity things before that- First, must have been Rusty Staub at his steakhouse/bbq in NYC. My first wife and I were big Met fans and we would do a NYC trip a couple times a year. We decided to go to his restaurant and he happened to be there that night. He stopped at every table- So- in life, I have met more offensive line guys than most people ever will- and Rusty's hands would double them over. My hand disappeared. And he was such a cool host.

Met Eddie Van Halen at a Jet's game - Was working at IBM and won their seats in a company raffle. Sitting at the 50 3 rows back. Sat between Ken O'brian's Cousin and Marty Lyons family. We see a crowd at the sideline before the game starts and someone on the field with long dard hair- first thought- Mark G...I go over and it is EVH- all of a sudden- players come out to the field and fans leave and just me an Eddie. I ask about what is happening with DLR leaving- and he confirms the rumors that Sammy is joining. We talk for 5 mins and game starts.
Cool as SHIT as I was as big of a VH fan as there could be in the early 80's

So- married for the next decade and random sightings but nothing cool

Divorced- maybe 2000- dating a girl who's ex husband was the Dupont Rep for Jeff Gordon - had the chance in Pa to sit on top of their rig for a race there and meet his wife and Jeff after the race.

About a year later- a customer of mine was a VP at Mudd Jeans- fashion week was coming up and they needed escorts to accompany their models for a day. They brought us in, assigned a girl, got us dressed and we traveled all day and night with them as their escort.
My girl- was a redhead from Houston. We stayed friends and very causal. Next time she was in town- she had me come to a party her manger was hosting for the Giants Minnesota playoff game- At the party was Drew Barrymore and Tom Greene, Alicia Silverstone, Studdering John, Ed Norton, Fred Durst and many others- just a blast and crazy fun

after the party- hung with Drew for 3-4 months. I had the chance to meet up with Ed Norton in Vegas maybe 6 or 7 years ago and he remembered the party.

Then the Columbian Drug Cartel daughter

Met my current wife and all of the football experiences happened.

The crazy thing is- I did nothing and I am nothing all that special at all to enjoy some of the most surreal times anyone could imagine.

There have been many bumps in the road but I cannot go to the grave saying I didn't experience anything.

Even my wife- special bonds from her modeling days with Whitney, Evelyn Champagne King , LL Cool J, Kid n Play, Tayra etc...I did get the chance to meet Whitney and LL - Would have loved to meet Evelyn but since her brother was an ex of hers...did not get that chance. lol

What I have learned from almost everyone- drinks after a game with NFL'rs, stars, - they are all still real people. Just be normal with most of them. Damn- asking Ed Norton to grab me a beer at a party, was just normal. His response after giving me the beer "who are you?" was actually funny. lol

Saw Mike Tyson at LaGuardia, just prior to the release of The Hangover. No one went near him.

Mike Tyson was on my flight to LA about 10 years ago.

As I boarded and walking to my seat I immediately see a guy in first class with a tattoo over his whole eye.

Had to do a double take as it didn’t feel real lol.

I’ve had several celebrity run ins at the airport. Funniest was Eli Manning. I was right behind him in the security line. He was traveling with his wife, his kids, and his sister in law. It was funny because he was carrying a car seat, his wife’s carry on, his sister in laws carry on, and one more bag. Dude looked hilarious with all the stuff he was carrying. I remember saying to him, “Eli, tell your wife you’re a SB champion!” He ended up laughing and his wife laughed and told me “well now he’s a stay at home dad”.

On flights I’ve sat next to or near:
- Jim Nance
- Joe Torre
- a famous Victoria’s Secret model (her male companion looked at me and said it was my lucky day)
- Ludacris
- The Situation (I gave him the lowdown on how he should spend his time in LA as a “celebrity”
- Reverend Run (had a great chat with him and he ended up inviting me to a party he was DJ’ing in Austin
- Undertaker (didn’t say a word to him just nodded)

Another interesting run-in at the airport was with a famous Hollywood starlet. I was with my friends at LAX waiting at the gate for a return flight to EWR. My friend says, “OMG, I think that girl sitting over there is [hollywood starlet].” Not sure why I did (maybe to seem cool?), but I walk up to said girl, ask if the seat next to her was taken and start chatting her up. Luckily, our flight was a little delayed and when we finally boarded I walked away with her number. Ended up going on a few “dates”.

I’ll tell you the story of running into Jay Z on 3 straight days and how I ended up having dinner with Britney Spears another time.

It never really hits you that it's the specific person when you run into them, then you'd like "wait, that's so and so."
I always think it's cool to see them out like regular people (b/c most of them are) - and most I've run into over years were super chill

Bill Murray on my flight going down to Charleston. Have seen other celebrities at airport but that's the biggest.

Obscure airport celebrity sightings Part 2. The following year after my brother and I spotted Maurey Amsterdam at Kennedy, we saw character actor Patrick O'neal at Kennedy as well. The only reason how or why we recognized him was because he was the featured villain / murderer in Season 1 of Columbo, just the week before. https://www.tvinsider.com/people/patrick-oneal/

Well- have to say that I have seen too many football players on various trips through the years. Was fun to enjoy pizza's and BBQ with a few as well.

The one star that impressed me the most...When my kids from my first marriage were still fairly young, I took them on vacation to Jamaica. On our flight home, Patrick Ewing was sitting first class. I told my boys who it was. This must have been 2004.

We get off the flight. As we get off the plane, Patrick was just casually walking to baggage claim. My boys were just looking at this massive human. He looked over at them with a smile- I said hello and introduced my kids to him. He just chatted them up and about halfway to baggage - my kids tell me they had to pee. I had their bags and mine and Pat looks over and says- "if it is ok with you, I have to stop too, if you are ok to watch all the bags, I would keep an eye on your boys when they are in there."
So- ok- of course that is fine by me.
They come out and on we go to baggage. As we are all waiting- Pat is sitting by himself waiting and my youngest is just there chatting away with him. My son asked if it was ok to get a picture- and Pat very nicely told him that he would prefer not to do that because if 1 person saw him take a picture, then there would be 50 people doing the same and he would never get out of there. So, they just kept talking until everyone's bags came out and on our way.

I still joke with the both of them 20 years later that there aren't that many kids that can brag that they "hung out" literal with Patrick Ewing lol
I was on a delayed flight with him and his wife and daughter once coming back from the Bahamas. Due to the delay he sat on the floor and stretched out. Everyone knew who he was but let him be.

funny story- Was at the River Palm Steakhouse in Paramus years ago with a bunch of coworkers. My new assistant joined us. Phil Simms comes in with a buddy of his- some guy about 5ft10 180lbs...us guys are all talking about Phil and my assistant asks who he is...we told her, Phil Simms- Greatest Giant QB ever. She gets excited and asks which guy is Phil...So, we all know Phil is a 6ft4 Blond haired giant. And the other guy- dark hair normal size...Of course- you know which guy we said was Phil- she asked if we thought he would mind taking a picture with her- of course we said he would love it.

She goes up to the dark haired dude and tell him she is a big fan and asks for a picture.

I can't remember a group of guys busting out laughing so hard with the look on Phil's face and then when the 3 of them realized what we did.
