Maybe Princeton is a rival?

saying its a rival is excuse making, last week oooh throw the records out a historically offensively challenged seton hall is coming into the rac loaded for bear knocking us on our asses from the get go....lets have a party because Dylan hit a 3 to salvage the game

now ooh throw the records out, this rivalry where Princeton sent 50 fans to trenton for last year and 500 this year out of 10K NEEDS TO BE PLAYED BECAUSE JERRY CARINO AND RU 72 SAY SO AND PIKE BENDS OVER EVEN THOUGH HE KNOWS THIS GAME IS NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AND NO UPSIDE...but yeah isnt it nice to see Princeton beat Rutgers 5 out of 6...

If you heard Henderson rubbing it in and pissing all over us in the post-game you better believe it's a rivalry
lmfao, you dont belive this...Henderson is right to talk. Princeton has been the premier NJ program by and large and they own RU right now. Imagine having to hear about two nba draft picks while the 2 best performers on the court belonged to princeton today. Mitch has every right and reason to talk trash.

No argument there. Still humiliating for us though

Yes Princeton had dozens of fans in attendance today and a band full of complete dorks.

Let's schedule Monmouth at Met Life in football going forward each year to complete the Rutgers alum clown show.

Their band was using a Santa figurine as a drum.

some have said elsewhere that they do not want this game played anymore
I disagree with that, and consider it loser talk

They are a viable instate team, like SHU, and perfect for a non conference matchup

We would not have complaints about scheduling them if we can beat them
We were supposed to win, odds wise, so we have no one to blame that we lost

If you have aspirations to go deep in the NCAA Tournament and you create expectations in the fanbase by getting blue chip one and done recruits, this is the kind of game you need to win and the kind of program you need to beat, not avoid.

It's really not. One and done-type schools don't generally load up on Q3 games. They face programs that are high Q2 and above, or cupcakes that they annihilate.

Problem is we haven't been able to annihilate the cupcakes to boost our NET, and the higher level programs we've faced have been losses. Q3 games are all risk, no benefit.

We should be able to beat Princeton

If we cannot annihilate the cupcakes and higher level teams are losses
What does that tell you ?

It's not about whether we should or shouldn't be able to beat any given team. It's about tournament selection math. If you are in one of the top 2-3 most difficult conferences, you should not be scheduling Q3 teams at all. Period.

They are high risk, because they are perfectly capable of knocking off tournament level opponents and a loss looks really bad on a resume. They are low reward, because you don't get any benefit from beating a Q3 team.

I don't care about sentimentality, or whether we should or shouldn't be able to beat a team... They shouldn't be on the schedule, the same way the football team shouldn't schedule two high level FCS teams in a year. They just don't count for anything - winning gets you nothing, and losing is a huge black mark.

Princeton has been a nightmare type opponent going back to Pete Carrill when they almost defeated the 1976 undefeated Rutgers team in the NCAA Tournament. They run their half court offensive system with precision and always get easy baskets on back door cuts and wide open 3 point shots for all players including the centers.

and we compounded the problem by playing at Kennesaw State...replace that one with Rider at home and Princeton loss doesnt sting so much because you view as a one point loss

I think people moved quickly pass the atrocious performance at KSU too easily because we went to Vegas and performed well

We were outscored 40-15 for a stretch in the first half.....40-15 and we have 2 top 5 draft picks...people need to imprint what happened there in their heads..it wasnt just an Ace thing..it was the entire team, players and program shit the bed so hard it fell through the floor

It shouldn't even be a conversation. We should be able to pereninally crush Princeton. The fact we get our ass's handed to us despite the resource advantages is the problem

I agree we should win
We did not get our ass handed to us

Princeton is not a Q4. Q4 teams are expected to be routinely crushed by tournament caliber teams.... Princeton doesn't fit that profile.

Losing to a Q3 is bad, but it's not shocking when one jumps up and bites a major conference team. And you don't get a cookie for beating one.

IMO this would be a great rivalry if Princeton was in the ACC/Big 10/Big East. They just don’t play good enough competition to make playing them worth it because they will always be a Q3 and maaaaybe a Q2 team at best. Low upside lots of downside. Nothing against the PU program, they look great with great players and it would be nice to have a second in-state rival in an alternate reality.
