MSU best defender and a leader on the team. Missed last game with a bad thigh bruise. I've seen him listed as day to day and an article that said he was doubtful. If he misses this game it is a big edge for Rutgers. Anyone know his status?

‘So, no, Matt McQuaid isn’t going to be an All-American, but it was clear in the loss to Louisville that he is integral to Michigan State’s success. You could hear it talking to the players after the game and at practice on Wednesday — they need McQuaid back. When will he be back? Good question. My best guess is Monday at home against Iowa, at the earliest.’

One guy’s opinion...

I like it. One team coming in with confidence one team shook begging for a starter to be back in the lineup. If we start out hot their confidence could really be a factor

Just my opinion but I feel like we’d be better off he tries to come back too early when he’s not 100%. That may be more to our advantage than if he does not play at all. Him playing at less then 100% will cause some disarray with their chemstry on the court and their coaching strategies for this game.

I think we'll know within the first five minutes whether or not we're gonna have a competitive game.

I'm not so sure about that. If you asked me after the first 5 minutes of the Miami game whether it was going to be competitive, I would have said no. This team is a little bit different than previous RU teams... better coached, not reliant on one guy to score, more confident...

I side with you here. Last year first 5 minutes yes. This year we have more ways to score to bounce back from a slow start. I really think that road win will give them confidence which is really important for a young team and we come out hot

SJU admittedly felt hopeless to me after their first 3 3s. I agree the first 5 minutes tonight are very important.

The St Johns game will be talked about for a while. They would have beat 90% of the schools in the country that night they played us. It wasn't all poor defense as we know. lol.

Wasn't aware mcquaid was hurt and didn't play against Louisville. Regardless I think he is an overrated player who is a decent but not great shooter and someone who we could exploit defensively. But I'll take the post above that he is needed due to senior leadership etc and hence i guess if he doesn't play against us then it's a good thing for us.

From what I've seen/heard he is their best defensive player

the way they were hitting one three after another has to effect the other team. Hard to defend these shots and you may well have done a decent job only to see it sail through the net.
I think the team's D is something they have a lot of confidence in. So, just keep on chugging along if you can disrupt them enough to keep it close. A ranked team will start to tighten up if the "inferior" team just keeps hanging on.

Thinkin Wisky at home without Kamisky

(and I don't mean I'm glad he's hurt just that I wouldn't mind him taking the night off vs. poor ol Rutgers. Not that Izzo thinks that way).

Maybe you’re right. I’m just not sure that a team as young as ours could recover from a 18-5 start against a team as good as MSU. Contrary to what my wife says, I am occasionally wrong.

Sometimes a team just gets hot and has a 2-3 standard deviation from the mean with regard to shooting and that was SJU that night. At one point in midway through the 2nd half, they were 16-28 from downtown. That's just a sick percentage and volume - 48 points on 28 shots.

And at one point in the first half they missed seven or eight in a row.

Weren’t we down 13-4 or 11-4 early at Miami? I got there early during the warmups and the team looked happy and focused, and were hitting jump shots. Good chemistry on this team IMO.

When is Jacob Young going to play? He travelled with the team to Coral Gables and looked happy with the group. Isn’t he a PG?

He has to sit out this year as a transfer
