"As a hitting coach,'' Rutgers head coach Joe Litterio said, "Beef doesn't approach it from a mechanics perspective. He doesn't take (hitters) and say 'I'm going to make him hit this way.' He approaches hitting from the mental approach, giving guys an easy calm by telling them, 'You're doing great but let's tweak this and see how this works' or by giving them tidbits that will help them in the box. He does it that way to get guys feeling good about themselves (because) when you feel good about yourself, you're a good hitter.''

Since hitting was, at least at one time, considered the hardest thing to do in sports, you have to have confidence in yourself. Hell, what other sport celebrates a 30% success rate? I do think it is difficult to convince players who have been power hitters all their life to understand that a good hitter is a lot more than home runs.
