I'm hoping he loses his beard and let's it rip for the rest of the season (neither will happen).

On the 4th / 1 why not roll Gio out / have Martin (our best back) trailing him....while someone (fill in the blank) runs a short route. The objective was to gain 1 yard and sustain the drive. Changes the complexion of the game imo.

Drew is likeabe... but just like his response on Oden ("he's got some things to work on") : SO DOES DREW.

It does no good to run a system (I've been talking about this on / off for posts now)....if you don't have the right personnel: sports, business whatever. Might as well ask a Podiatrist to do neurosurgery.
Use the podiatrist appropriately and we get a CHANCE OF WINNING / BETTER OUTCOME.

Hope Drew is learning on the job as well....and oh yeah, what's wrong with using Rettig for a few plays and seeing what the hell the kid can do with our non existent passing game (especially short passes..-I've seen countless attempts to go long with the ball sailing over Agudosi, Patton or Harris' head).

I"m optimistic about Gio and other non-CL QBs for the future, but was this one of the 4th down plays with the sh**ty snaps? Those totally ruined the timing of the plays, not much else to analyze other than that.

It's funny but watch Ohio st and they probably called same type of play on 4 down a few times last night. It's execution and players at certain position that makes this offense non productive. From my vantage point, our oline was for most part ok run blocking around when those 4th down came about and running game was getting decent avg yardage. I think if we handled the snap and just punch forward we get the first down. Key moments this year we manage to over think and fail miserably. Run the I with who at full back? Pro style te is who? im no expert but think if we have true running threat at Qb with true handle of the option aspect we can equally be successful. I almost feel if you trusted your wr you loft the ball a bit more and let them run under neath and fight for the ball. Or maybe our wr just slow lol. I don't know..watching several wr open and Qb just can't get them the ball is somewhat mind boggling. It is what it is. I do trust the coaches we have and just have to be a by patient with what we are watching. Either way I don't think the scheme is the problem. Even if we played in prostlye we may be seeing very similar results.

"What's wrong with using Rettig for a few plays." Earlier nothing, but now there is no chance, using
him now will be an admission, the coach screwed up. Nothing would be served if Rettig came in and
did well., because if he did, they would have a problem next year again, use their best arm or go
with their lousy system.

I saw atleast 3 plays yesterday where trying to go fast resulted in players on our team being confused on the formation and call.

Fair enough but I don't like planned QB runs on 1st down, 100% shotgun, looking at sideline prior to every play. I know it works at some places with right talent but IMO the pro set is more sustainable over time and attracts more talent.

The pro-set is dead at RU for the forseeable future. We're going to take our lumps for a couple years as we recruit towards running Mehringer's version of the spread offense. If we sh*tcan the spread and try to reinstate the pro-set, we'd just be tacking on more lost seasons in the rebuild.

In his defense the offense easily moved the ball down the field and five times was stopped by physical errors- 2 fumbles, 2 botched snaps and a pick 6.

I tend to agree with you and that's quite an indictment of the coaching staff. 1. Imposition of their system on a team that can't run it. 2. Unable to evaluate talent (the decision to not use Hicks is also very questionable). We have seen, for example, enough of Allen and Gio to puzzle how Allen could have ever been higher on the depth charts than Gio. 3. Unwilling to admit a mistake has been made.

We can all hope that Ash succeeds and gets the players he needs to run the offense he wants. At that point some on this board will say Ash was right all along, he was just building for the future. I find that building for the future argument absurd since the players he needs aren't even here yet and aren't benefitting from this season.

Pro style is gone and the spread offense is in. Everyone keeps saying we are not ready for it. Duh. It is going to take time and recruits that know the spread. Drew is young, but I think he is good for the team. this year is a write off year. Everyone knew it. People on this board said it over the summer. But the season starts and everyone gets hyped up and thinks we can beat whoever is on our schedule. Not sure but is there another team playing that played three of the top five teams in the first half of the season? We got our clocks cleaned. Did everyone here do the same to Schiano during his first season? Bad coaching and everyone wants their head. Hire a new coach with same old team and everyone wants to change again. Give it time. If you build it they will come. Where have I heard that before?

We need an OC with more experience that both Ash and the players can lean on. That it took until Saturday to get Gio meaningful game time shows something is seriously wrong.
