Men’s Lacrosse Returned Home to Host Loyola on Saturday

Needed that one. Giving up goal after a 4 chance possession without converting could have been a huge momentum changer.

Faceoffs have been unreal. Huge weapon if we’re can continue winning at this rate going forward.

What’s working today that didn’t last week and the week before
Combination of change of personnel with Murphy at X and Kulas back to his natural righty spot. Also like what 10 is bringing at the lefty attack spot. Better off ball movement and the ball is not dying in sticks. And also not having to play what might be an all time great Army defense.

Loyola goalie is keeping this from becoming a runaway. We also need to be more accurate. Still plagued by low shooting %

Don’t think I have ever seen that. Looked like there was a force field at the goal line. Don’t know how it bounced backwards

Aiello has to stop taking those low angle 12 yard shots. It’s nothing more than a turnover at this level.

On vacation in PR so another win to watch on replay.

Take it from the comments were not as bad as we looked against Army (take that as going up against an elite team early in the season). That SB was more just one of those losses.

Spoke too soon about Hopkins. Looks like they are going down.

Still a good day for the conference as a whole. Uva scoring 4 goals is crazy. Allowing 14 to OSU might be as crazy.

This game and SBU were very similar. We clearly had the better athletes in both games and we dominated the middle of the field. The difference is that we were much more cohesive on offense this game and got many more uncontested looks. Still need to convert better but credit to Loyola goalie. I think he ended up with almost 20 saves. If we played SBU this way offensively we win going away. Not sure it would have made a huge difference vs Army without higher shooting percentage.

SBU also had a solid performance in goal.

Harvard up by 2 with 2:10 to go and Syracuse gets a 2 minute nonreleaseable penalty which might have been a 1 minute releaseable. Home cooking much? Harvard gives up 1 but wins at the Dome!

Paolotto 16-19

He won 16 straight after the LU guy won the first 3. That’s crazy insane, Luke Weirman-like dominance.
We haven’t had a two game stretch like this from the faceoff spot since Nards was running around here.

One thing great about Palatto is he can actually play lacrosse like Nards. Loyola was just inviting us to go 5 on 4 running their fogo off immediately

What’s with that goal by Lawler that got waived off? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that call before.

Bullshit. We don't even get away calls at home. We had no man up opportunities. Refs are a joke.

We dominated the stat sheet. Almost doubled them up in groundballs. We got off 47 shots. Their goalie was great making 19 saves but some of those were turnover shots. We really need to get those out of our game.

47 shots is great and should typically lead to 15-17 goals with an acceptable shooting percentage. A young team learning. Some of the stuff that worked at the HS level just doesn't go at the D1 level. Gotta work for better shots in the middle of the field.

Fans are giving score of other games but not Rutgers vs.Loyola.

90% are watching the game. Why would they give the score? When some don't have access ask, scores are provided. But other scores affect where Rutgers stands in the Big 10 and national rankings. That's not irrelevent? Besides, it's great when Syracuse loses

Aiello showed the bad and the good of playing freshmen on back to back plays. I was about to post that there isn’t a look that Aiello doesn’t like after he took another low angle outside shot. Then on the next play he made a strong move to get to the middle of the field and had a sweet lefty rip. The talent is obviously there and he has the build of an upperclassman. But it will take some time for him to learn that things he got away with in HS won’t work at this level.

Also, it appears that Colin Kurdyla is frustrated and in his head a bit. It is just a matter of time before he has a breakout game and gets his confidence going. Because he is simply too talented. When he gets going it will take a lot of pressure off the rest of the offense.

Kulas needs to finish when he gets his opportunities. He is out there to get his hands free and snipe. If he is not finishing he is a liability.

I liked some of the personnel moves. I thought Murphy did a good job of dictating the flow. I also liked Kelly at midfield. I’d like to see Sommer play some attack. He showed some skill handling in tight quarters and good vision. I thought #10 brought a unique skill set at the lefty spot. Don’t mind seeing him platoon with Aiello.

I really like the way our defense and rope units are playing. This could be a special unit. Good blend of experience and young talent with solid depth.

It looks like we struck gold with Paolatto. He was one of the top faceoff guys in D3 but you never know how that will translate to this level. Faceoff is notoriously difficult to project. It helps that we have great wing play, which is often under appreciated.

Speaking of wing play, #13 is easily the best portal pick up this season and may end up being one if the best all time. Defense, wing play, riding, clearing, transition and even settled offense — he does it all at a high level. A buddy of mine whose son played with him in HS told me when before he committed that we are getting a dog, so I had high expectations. So far he has exceeded those expectations.

That 13 is fast, he just flies by everyone.

It's all about youngsters getting comfortable with one another. I saw several TO's that were a result of lack of familiarity. That I am able to deal with, because when those passes start to click you are going to have some great results. I remember Brecht's early season comment that they are either going to please you, or make you tear your hair out. As we go along, I think we will see less hair on the flor.
