Michigan Grad Transfer 4 Star OT David Dawson

Sounds attractive - A 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive lineman - Four-star recruit in Michigan's 2013 class
- But before the RJ Dill comparisons trickle out remember that Dill had 30 straight starts for Maryland ...
In 4 years - Dawson only appeared in 12 games during his Michigan career & He did not make any starts.

finding enough information to objectively judge Dawson's likely impact may be tough ...
- but then again - there is the simple fact of "6-foot-4, 325-pounds"

no thanks, we can not get to the next level with 3rd string players. We have enough of them already.

Not sure if he has interest in us but we lose 3 OL starters and OL recruiting has been weak since 2013. I think there are about 11 OL returning and I don't believe any were 4 star and a good percentage were gambles. If I were Ash I would take a long look.

If the coaches want him I'd love to have a 2nd/3rd stringer on the OL who played in a few games for a top 10 team as that lineman will likely make our 2-deep in his only year of 2017.

No, not an All-American
but -
Would be a one & done - so not a long term commitment -
- RU has HUGE needs - and near term some generic help - could have value
- while he is not a star... remember that -
......if he simply sucked, Harbaugh would not have hesitated to escort him to the door - so if Harbaugh felt he was 'serviceable' and could be plugged into the Michigan offensive line, he probably could have a bit of value for next season for RU.
- Also - Does he bring -not just 'experience' - but an ability to share with & show teammates steps to improvement.

Would he be any worse than a true freshman who has had no time in a college strength an conditioning program getting thrown into the action? What he might do is give one of the incoming OL a red shirt year that would pay dividends down the road.

Really only two.

Yeah no thanks, would definitely prefer to use our no other offer inexperienced guys that wouldn't even be third stringers on Michigan.

You take this guy EVEN IF only to help in practice. He's experienced in a very good program which can do nothing but help out younger guys.

I would rather use the scholarship on a kid who may develop into something in a few years. Pass.

If we are not going to guarantee him a chance to be a starter he likely will head elsewhere. I can see him at a local school like Western Michigan. The kid is from Detroit and may not want to leave his home state. Plus at a MAC school he is likely going to be starter and headed to a bowl game. At Rutgers he may not earn a starting nod and making a bowl will be tough.
