That explains part of it I guess but you would think someone would want to take a chance on a kid w/ that size, but it all depends on what he is there for too perhaps. Bernard Pierce is listed as an alum of the school after getting into some trouble at Lower Merion HS

Yep.
Bernard Pierce....former Temple rb went to Glen Mills.
I don't think we've ever recruited someone from that institution.

Recruiting kids who are JDs is tricky. Everyone deserves more chances, but the risk is high. First, the kid has to give up the old friends etc. Any faltering and he may be lost permanently About 10 years ago we got a high profile kid from Paterson who had some trouble in his background. It carried on at RU. Not big stuff but enough for GS to take a disciplinary action and removed him from scholarship until he proved a better focus and behavior. Since the player did not have the financial resources to keep him in school he went back to his old 'hood. Just before spring training he came back declaring that he had squared away and a new focus. The squad had a need for a center as the ones on the team did not come up to par. GS asked the kid if he wanted to try the position which he did and was turning out to be a damned good one. I remember the fantastic job he did in the spring game. No sooner was the equipment picked up, an indictment from the City of Paterson came down claiming the player was an accessory to a murder. He claimed that since he had no finances, he associated with a gang by having the job of hiding and retrieving a gun when the gang leader needed it. There was a revenge shooting which killed the victim. GS wasted no time and had him separated from team and school. What a loss for the kid and for RU. I remember when the kid signed his LOI. His father broke down in tears as if to say "my son is rescued".

That was the year they converted handyman Ray Pilch to play center.

In all fairness to Davon Clark, charges against him were dropped and he finished out his career at Virginia Union, got his degree & was a grad assistant there last time I checked.

Didn't Davon transfer in from Miami or change his commitment there ? ( similar to Nate Robinson story).
Good to hear that Davon has turned his life around.

I am sure Myles Hartsfield still hasn't signed and he was a 4*. He still goes to a regular school (sarcasm) or it comes to him, not sure which.

Don't know his crime, but worth a look, may have been into some crappy circumstances, you never know.

Glen Mills is a very structured, disciplined residential environment. I've visited the school. You won't even see a pencil mark on the desks there and the classrooms are so silent you can hear a proverbial pin drop. If a kid is successful at Glen Mills, I'd take a chance on him at RU.

A kid can certainly straighten his life out at Glen Mills, it is a great place. However, most kids have serious issues with their academic records when they enter there, making it highly unlikely that they will qualify upon graduation. Not to say they couldn't be successful, but unfortunately they ate not going to be afforded the chance by the NCAA without the benefit of some work post HS graduation.

I don't know anything about this kids situation, but I would bet that the lack of looks is probably due to this, rather than what caused him to be situated at the school.

About 10 years ago, one of the top DTs in the country was 5 star Callahan Bright - think Rashad Gary, only bigger. Bright committed to FSU from Harriton High after spending two years at Glen Mills. Unfortunately, he never set a foot on campus because he didn't qualify.

True, because most kids on probation get sent away because they are not attending school in the first place.
