Minny 12.5% from 3

We got taken to overtime by one of the worst teams in B1G, on our home court, who was playing their C- or D game.

One play was a poster for our season….in transition dawson garcia dribbles (not runs) past both Ace and Dylan.

This needs to be over.

Ha, trying to not to be negative after a win, but I agree we looked terrible. Dylan saved the day but sheesh we still look like we have no idea what we want to do out there.

For the avoidance of doubt, I was being sarcastic with an intent of demonstrating one side of the 3 point shooting discussion that’s been discussed throughout the season (typically in the games where we’ve been exposed from 3).

In the spirit of that discussion, Minny’s uncontested 3 point miss at the half time buzzer deserved to go down absent that “luck factor” which is clearly a much less significant variable on open looks from the outside than in the post.

This is nothing more than reinforcement that overplaying the post while compromising the perimeter D, probably does give us the best chance to win. Understanding of course that by all counts - our D stinks regardless.

They did beat a lot of good teams this year and had 4 Big away wins.
Agree.
They actually had 5 B1G away wins. Finished 5-5 away and 2-8 at home. Could be argued that they are the best B1G team on the road relative to their overall B1G record. This road success is likely due, at least in part, to how old the team is.

Agreed.

All Im doing is applying the Fluox math fairly to wash away any doubt that the position was ever intended as an excuse for our losses. Here it, in turn, applies just the same to a win. Clear as day.

Minnesota came into the game shooting 32.7% from 3. They shot way below their average in regulation going 1 of 11. It certainly wasn’t because we did a better job than their other opponents at contesting shots on the perimeter.

Fluox has never understood the concept of variance

Huh? Of course he does. His whole point is that the luck factor plays a significant role in 3 point outcomes on any given day - won or lose. This time it worked in our favor. Most of the time, when it’s been discussed it’s been the opposite.

Minnesota seems like they should be better than they are. I was worried Garcia would go off. He had a nice game but not a great game. Their away record is impressive.

Context again. Minnesota (7-13 B1G) is as bad as Rutgers (8-12 B1G). Also, Minnesota has 5 B1G road wins. They are a .500 team on the road this season. Rutgers is 3-8 on the road, but more important is Rutgers doesn't dominate at home like past seasons. So to say Rutgers was taken to O.T. by a bad Minnesota team is misleading. You forgot to say Rutgers is just as bad of a team as Minnesota.

It's never meant as an excuse for our losses, though I will certainly admit that I am more inclined to come here and argue with people about it after our bad luck games as opposed to our good luck games. For similar reasons that I am more likely to point out bad calls that hurt Rutgers as opposed to ones that help.

I don't pretend to be anything but a biased Rutgers fan but variance goes both ways and for the record we got the good side of it yesterday.

Yeah, I have a lot of flaws. The foremost of them as it comes to this board is that I would honestly like to treat people here more like I would in real life instead of blowing off steam on our dumbest posters.

That said, I am 100% confident by understanding of variance and statistical analysis is in the top 1% of posters here, I am literally a quant lol

For whatever reason Minny was .500 on the road in the conference.
