Moglia seems to be pushing for the job

Back when we were discussing low budget options for RU, I thought you could at least make case for Moglia as someone who could solidify the program on and off the field and manage the 5 years or so until RU transitioned to a full B1G share.

Now that RU hired a non-athletic AD to do the same things, and money is allegedly more available than expected, I don't see how a case can be made for Moglia.

Does that reporter seriously think that because Moglia has connections to Wall Street it can translate into big money contributions to RU football? Hell, Wall Street contributions from Rutgers ALUMS (unless they are given anonymously) have been nothing to write home about.

If he is a candidate I would advocate for a great assistant coach. One that could eventually take over for him in 5 years. Essentially he would be on the clock for 5 years with the expectation that he would step down after that. That would be the only way I am OK with him.

If we can't get Schiano, Rhule, or Richt...I'd love this hire. Definitely there's risk, but also huge upside. Runs a unique offensive system that others would have to prepare for, a proven winner in life, wouldn't need a big pay package, and possibly could donate money back to school over long-term. Huuuge upside.

Downside: I can't see it being worst than Flood. Sorry.

He got no stain. He is in the WTF tranche of candidates. Seriously, he should be 7th on our list behind:
----BiG READY CANDIDATES-----
Richt
GS
Golden
------MIGHT NOT BE READY CANDIDATES----
Cristobal
Rhule
------WTF CANDIDATES-------
Fleck

I guess I talked myself into one case for him. If it is true that his personal wealth means we could get away with paying him Flood type money, and the additional money RU allegedly has could be used to pay top 25 coordinator money to lure a great OC and DC here (hoping one could eventually take over), it would make some sense. You would have to get the right assistants for recruiting, though.

If you can't get a proven commodity like GS, MR or BP then I like going out the box and/or young and swinging for the fences.
BP? Pellini?

There's no chance whatsoever that we'd hire that <bleep>ing Pellini after the Mike Rice fiasco.

Interesting

Massive, game changing upside potential if everything goes right - he could be a media darling ... Ring the Nasdaq opening bell the day after he is announced ... rah ...rah... rah ...(he is basically living a Disney script - look for Dennis Quaid or Kevin Costner to play Moglia in the movie)

Woeful, pathetic embarrassment if chemistry goes bad & ... the media will unleash an ugly harsh tsunami of " You guys are idiots ... what an amateur move... and .. we told you so" ...if it does not work.

One of the huge keys to making this have a chance of success would be to be able to get premium, top-notch, super-star potential assistants - off the charts good OC & DC

.... so is it worth a shot?
or is it better to look at one of the candidates that fit the description of the "Usual Suspects" attractive - but not stellar upside ... probably limited but lackluster downside
... sort of a 'safe choice

I like Pellini. Would take him in a heart beat. We could use a guy the media and HS coaches fear and respect rather than like.

Simplified and FIFY
Sorry he is too old and it is a bit harder to compete against the DCs in the BiG. Moreover, he was the CEO of a retail bank, not the CEO of a bulge bracket firm so don't expect a big bump in Wall St fundraising.

We are in the BiG and this is probably our most critical hire. Moglia is a huge gamble. When you have a short stack of chips in front of you you get back in the game by making smart decisions. If you go all in and if you're wrong then you're dead. Moglia is an all-in short stack move.

I think I have to agree with an out of the box/young hotshot with big upside, especially If MD somehow nabs a Richt-type candidate instead and we can't secure a bigger name. Most of the candidates mentioned are moderate risk, low reward imo and would most likely be eaten alive anyway by a B1G East coaching line-up with Richt.

We might have no choice...I hope it doesn't come to that though. I'm scared.
