When I skimmed the article and saw women gymnasts earn about $21,000 in NIL, I couldn't believe my eyes. Then I read the details and saw that for gymnastics, the figure is an average of the top 25 earning gymnasts. The
#2 earning college athlete across all sports is a women gymnast. This distorts the figure for that sport.
The football figures shown in post #2 are for the top 25 players at each position.
The football bowl subdivision has 134 schools. That means only 25 of 134 FBS starting quarterbacks, or 19%, are included. For offensive linemen, only 4% of FBS starters are included.
Plus, the football figures are averages, meaning they are skewed higher by the highest earners.
The article is informative. However, the numbers listed are in no way indicative of what a median college athlete earns in NIL.
