10 secs left all they had to do was fall on the ball after the miscue. Maybe start the play like RU did against md and run around. Punt .fumbled snap, return for td...game over

I can't believe I saw that. Kind of reminded me of that Herm Edwards play but that was on a kneel down. I switched over and rewound the game (FIOS dvr can do that) and I can't believe what I just saw. That's a crazier ending then ours even. Punter fumbles the snap, goes right into the MSU players hand and he runs it in for a TD.

Remember the rutgers play against md...they should have done that

That's a good reason to despise kickers right there. Guy just had to fall on the ball but he goes Garo Yepremian on drugs

I'm sure that guy is going to hide his head in shame for quite awhile.

MSU has won their last 2 games in the last minute. Glad we got to try a slice of that today!

Just watched the replay of the final play. Couldn't stop laughing like a mad man. And part of that mad laughter is empathizing with Mich fans. Oh the pain!!!!!!!

Message to Harbaugh: Ask Kyle Flood how to end a game with a few seconds left on fourth down and a small lead.

The guy (Jackson) who returned the ball for the TD was mobbed by teammates, the ensuing pile result in Jasckon receiving a dislocated hip and being taken from the stadium on a back-board.

A UM fan suffered a heart-attack just after the play.

This game will kill ya

Looked like the punter tried a last second spinning attempt at the punt after he recovered the bad snap. Ball landed right in MSUs arms.

Poor kid just had to fall on it. Kickers.

I am numb. I am very numb.

For those of you who haven't yet seen it... here's the final play:

Wow... just wow:cry:

The Herm Edwards' play wasn't a kneel down. It just should have been.

The Michigan kicker is hard to blame too much here, although he should have handled the snap.

Just running around wouldn't have likely done it as it would have given MSU one last play.

It just all went to custard on UM.

Disagree. I have to assume the kicker was instructed to either kick it very quickly or to fall on the ball if fumbled. Way worse to try to kick it in that situation than to fall on the ball at one's own 40, which would still require a single play miracle for MSU to win.

And for those of you saying they should've done what we did against MD, you might want to brush up on your math skills. An intentional safety ties the game and trying to run 10 seconds off before being tackled (if not conceding a safety) would be very difficult to do. I would've just run a play and let them try a Hail Mary from midfield.

10 secs is a lot of time to run out. You'd probably still be giving up a hail mary opportunity. I don't know that I'd do anything differently. Whether you try to run out the clock or snap it to a punter there's always a chance to fumble a snap. It's low probability either way with the punt maybe a little higher probability of something going wrong but also taking away any chance of hail mary.

The punter should have just fell on it but I don't know that he would have been advised to just fall on it in case of fumbled snap. Do you want that even entering his mind? Most of the time just in the normal course of the game their first instinct is get the ball off and a lot of times they do. Force of habit.

BTW with regards to kickers, the Pitt kicker kicked a game winning 56yd FG to beat GT. Narduzzi having a nice start at Pitt.

That was an unbelievable ending.

Did you guys see the goal line series where EVERY play was reviewed? The crew on the field got EVERY call wrong. They were overruled by the replay booth on 1st and 2nd down, but not on 3rd down (or maybe it was 4th - I dont remember)

Unfortunately for Sparty, UM scored on an absolute bullsh!t call on forward progress. I have never seen anything like it. the Michigan RB was stopped a full yard short of the goal line...the pile didnt move for a couple of seconds, but the refs didnt blow the whistle for about 5 secs (or more)...and poof...the RB ends up in the endzone.

In all my years of watching football, I have never seen anything like it. Sparty got hosed there

Wonder if he gets the same kind of press Laviano got for the spike?

Ummm......two plays are in different stratospheres. That play yesterday is one for the ages and will be a top 3 play of all time in the UM/MSU rivalry. Play will be talked about for decades. Laviano play was a blip on the radar that had 1 week of fame, and really didn't even warrant that.

MSU's player who got the game winning TD dislocated his hip on the play. They weren't sure if it was the play or the celebration where everyone piled on top.

Thought I heard in an interview that MSU had nobody back to recieve the punt. Everyone was on the line. Is that correct? If so, wow. I guess that's how you get a free guy to scoop up the ball, and blockers out front to get him to the endzone. Wonder if we will see more of this now

Sorry Michigan fans, just think that Jim H. is just such a jerk.

Yea all 11 guys were on the rush. I don't even know if I'd call it a scoop although that's how it was described. It like literally fell into his hands. Talk about right place right time and fortuitous deflection.

I feel sorry for that punter (Blake O'Neill) - this will be a play of the year, a play of the decade and probably a play of the century (if football is still played 100 years from now). He will never be able to put this behind him.

EDIT: Have to change my post. I only saw the replay from the high midfield camera. Just saw it again close up from behind the play. Kicker was clearly trying to make the punt, and that was a dumb choice. But the kid's Australian so that explains a lot.

100% of the broadcasters I've seen have said - "ya' feel bad for the kid" "leave him alone" -- which is all true.............. but, compared to the 95% who killed Laviano....

Shields, your absolutely right: Harbaugh is a jerk. He's a great FB coach, but a huge jerk.

Watched a good portion of his presser and I never heard him compliment MSU at any time. Just kept saying how they played winning FB and complained about refs.

I was just talking to a kiwi here about the MSU/UM game and told him that the UM kicker tried to recover from dropping the ball by using a classic rugby move. When the ball comes out of the ruck, often the fly half will kick the ball upfield while his body is still turned most of the way back toward his own goal. You can see it in the attached clip (I hope) and see how similar it is to what the UM kicker tried to do.

Just after I told the guy about it, I was looking at ESPN site (I know, I shouldn't be) and there was a piece in it where the kid says that is what he was doing!

This: Take a kneel down or run a play, leaving MSU with 5-6 seconds from the 50 yard line.

If you run around trying to waste time, 10 seconds is a LONG time ... and you run the risk of giving MSU the ball at the 40 yard line ... possibly near enough for a 57- or 58-yard FG attempt (and 3 points wins the game).

As for the punter ... once he drops the snap, sure, in RETROSPECT, just falling on the ball is better than what happened, but at the time, trying to get off a rugby punt may not be the worst idea, because falling on the ball allows a FG attempt also. Though not sure he was thinking about THAT in the literally 1-2 seconds he had a chance to consider his options. I suspect, like almost anyone, all he was thinking about in the split second after he dropped the ball was get the kick off somehow - that was his training and practice, after all.

I feel bad for the kid, but good for MSU and for RU ... dislike Michigan, dislike Harbaugh and dislike that so many fans think because Michigan is doing so well this year that RU should do the same thing and expect the same results (replace the coach) ... so I want Michigan to start losing, and then I want RU to beat Michigan.
