I can't believe I saw that. Kind of reminded me of that Herm Edwards play but that was on a kneel down. I switched over and rewound the game (FIOS dvr can do that) and I can't believe what I just saw. That's a crazier ending then ours even. Punter fumbles the snap, goes right into the MSU players hand and he runs it in for a TD.
I'm sure that guy is going to hide his head in shame for quite awhile. That's a good reason to despise kickers right there. Guy just had to fall on the ball but he goes Garo Yepremian on drugs
Disagree. I have to assume the kicker was instructed to either kick it very quickly or to fall on the ball if fumbled. Way worse to try to kick it in that situation than to fall on the ball at one's own 40, which would still require a single play miracle for MSU to win.The Herm Edwards' play wasn't a kneel down. It just should have been.
The Michigan kicker is hard to blame too much here, although he should have handled the snap.
Just running around wouldn't have likely done it as it would have given MSU one last play.
It just all went to custard on UM.
Wonder if he gets the same kind of press Laviano got for the spike?
If you take a safety there, the game is tied.Message to Harbaugh: Ask Kyle Flood how to end a game with a few seconds left on fourth down and a small lead.
Yea all 11 guys were on the rush. I don't even know if I'd call it a scoop although that's how it was described. It like literally fell into his hands. Talk about right place right time and fortuitous deflection.Thought I heard in an interview that MSU had nobody back to recieve the punt. Everyone was on the line. Is that correct? If so, wow. I guess that's how you get a free guy to scoop up the ball, and blockers out front to get him to the endzone. Wonder if we will see more of this now
MSU's player who got the game winning TD dislocated his hip on the play...
EDIT: Have to change my post. I only saw the replay from the high midfield camera. Just saw it again close up from behind the play. Kicker was clearly trying to make the punt, and that was a dumb choice. But the kid's Australian so that explains a lot.Disagree. And for those of you saying they should've done what we did against MD, you might want to brush up on your math skills. An intentional safety ties the game and trying to run 10 seconds off before being tackled (if not conceding a safety) would be very difficult to do. I would've just run a play and let them try a Hail Mary from midfield.
