Really not sure of the love affair now I believe he will be a very good player for us in the years to come but not yet. When Geo comes back he should not be on the court more than 10 minutes
For one he consistently holds the ball too long on offense; gets himself caught up in the air too many times and he is no threat to shoot at all on offense
Defensively he is awful he is too slow and constantly being beat off the dribble and secondly which drives me crazy is that he hedges so far into the lane when he is playing defense that he is so far off his man who he leaves wide open at the three point line. This is not high school anymore you can’t play defense like that in college

He has had some outstanding games already this year, along with some stinkers. It’s called being a freshmen in the Big 10, especially on the road. Most people are excited because they see his big upside. I’m one of them.

Illinois wasn't buying what he was selling today, and he couldn't get the defense to open up passing lanes with fakes and dribbling. He tried going to the hoop a couple times, I think, but I mostly remember the one scoop layup blocked easily by Cockburn. Without Johnson in the game to feed in the post, he was also more limited.

Think he was less effective due a better than average defense.
The announcers said he "didn't play like a freshman",

He needs to be able to shoot the ball and not be 100% pass first. The defense doesn’t respect him as an offensive option.

I like the fact that Pike puts him and Young on the floor at the same time. Gives the O more options based on the D.

pike didn’t get my note. Caleb can’t be the only guard on the floor.

Yeah, I mean, he had 18 assists and only 2 TOs over the past several games, plus he’s a good rebounder. So there IS a legit reason for him to get major minutes.

But he didn’t play well today at all.

I'd say his defense has been improving. He was getting worked earlier in the season. He had a good drive blocked. I can live with that.
How many time did Mathis get completely swallowed up on drives? Him and the ball just disappear. Reminds me of a wrestler playing pick up ball with those drives.

Interesting point about the upside. Unless he can develop a good jumper, I just don’t see it.
