First of all...The overreaction on this board is comical. Bad loss, yes. Absolutely. But stop acting like the sky is falling. People get way too ahead of themselves. Someone started a thread saying this was "the most inexplicable loss they've ever seen". To me, that means they've been a fan since 2017.
Here are my thoughts on the game.
1. Left far too many points at the line. I hate to single out one player in a loss but Eugene was absolutely brutal. Missing 6 of 9 including the front end of a 1 and 1 is brutal.
2. Pikiell/Staff did not adjust well to the zone. The bigs were really cheating up high in a 1-3-1 and we did not have movement on the baseline to break it down and get easy buckets. Corey and Geo were throwing lollipop passes to eachother for the first 10 seconds of the clock several times down the floor. We got into our sets late and really struggled to score in the halfcourt.
3. The last inbounds play was inexcusable and that is also on the staff. You have 1.8 seconds and instead of trying to throw the ball downcourt (even if forced), you opted for a heave from three quarters court. That is totally unacceptable. Pike should have to answer for that.
All in all, the loss was tough. It hurts.
I feel like many people just see Hartford and think we should blow them out but they had a good team. That kid number five was terrific. Tall, good handle, great range, and really hurt us.
We will bounce back and make noise in conference play. This team is much improved but by no means are we at the level where we are immune to losses to less talented teams.
