I don’t mean Superstars, I mean lunch pail guy think lifts the players around him. Mag truly is special. I know there were others but wow last night just shows how important he is to this program.

Caleb McConnell. Defensive player of the year (doesn’t get more lunch pail than that). He was pretty damn important (particularly his junior year). But yeah mag is pretty key

Caleb could carry the team on his back at times because of his defense. This team just needs Mag, They all play on a different level when he is on the court.

"Than" Mag? A few years back, Yeboah was huge for us. I would also argue Cam was big in certain games last season.

Caleb was huge in pretty much every game he played in, at least when he was healthy. His defense was so good that he'd largely shut down whomever he was marking while also simultaneously disrupting the play of everybody else on the other team. It was, at times, mind-blowing to watch.

We'd have these games where Caleb would seem kinda quiet, he'd fade a bit into the background until he made a steal or a block. But those were actually some of his best games 'cause he would just clamp down so hard on his guy that both he and the guy he's marking (often the other team's best player) would disappear for long stretches.

I think he was at least as impactful to last year's team as any other RUMBB player I've seen was to their team. But because he was a defensive specialist, and not a big scorer, people would regularly overlook him.

Caleb was a superstar type . He was big defensive player of the year.
I think the OP means role player types

I don't know what constitutes role player and is an acceptable answer.

In the Pike era the 2 most important players or valuable players

Myles and Cliff

ron, geo, jacob, eugene, mag and anyone else helped us win games and without them we probably aren't in NCAA tournament. Myles and Cliff is at another level based on what they mean from a defense and a defensive rebounding prespective. They are also not replaceable where the others are easier to replace. Mag maybe not so much purely based on roster last 2 years.

Mag is literally glue. He’s the only one on this team that can rebound for some reason.

Cliff does not elevate his teammates. At times our offense is better without him ( yesterday he had a very good game).

Mag was the most important player on the team last year, by the time he got injured, on the garden floor. In a game that never should have been there.! We should never play there again we don’t need to!
Mag may prove to be the single most important player in Rutgers history up to this point. If we get an NCAA bid this year it will be because of Mag. If that happens, in relation to last years collapse after he got injured , it would not be possible to argue otherwise.
If you argued that Cam, Paul M and Oscar Palmquest are slow and don’t belong on D1 power 5 teams, and this years guards were fast and create there own shots and are the key to winning, you can’t argue you have lost that privilege. You could not have been more wrong. We don’t want to hear your lack of basketball knowledge as it applies to Mag. Just listen to the rest of us you may learn something.

I mean if Hyatt doesn’t go the wrong way against minny we are in the tournament without mag

I believe what you are saying to be potentially accurate especially if Rutgers got selected with just 1 more win, not sure what the committee was looking for. That said if true it doesn’t invalidate my point or argument, both points can coexist.
I take it a step further IF Mag plays in that game we win regardless, which furthers my argument.
Thanks Plum

If true , it invalidates the argument . Because being in that tournament is all that maters.
you make good points. we don’t have to agree . I love the discussion
