I was surprised that Naz didn't make any of the 3 overall All State teams in the Ledger or any of the three All Parochial teams in the Star Ledger. I was surprised as he was picked by one publication I think as the #2 soph in the country coming into his second year. I think he was picked before this season as the #11 or #12 junior in the country. I think RU would still take him in a moment if we still have the chance. I see that the 5 guys on the All State team for All Groups are Nick Richards of the Patrick School, Tavon Jones of Linden, Cole of St. Anthony, the big guy from Don Bosco and I think the point guard from Hudson Catholic, Quinerly (spelling ?).

i want Tavon Jones and him BADLY with Doucoure we would be nice in a year or so.

A lot of my friends/colleagues do not like Naz game too much.

I would like those 3 as well. I have seen Jones probably over 40 times and he is a great slasher. He did have 43 threes as a soph and I think about 35 or so this year. He can hit the three as a soph he had 4 or 5 in a game at Roselle Catholic. He also had 4 in one game this season but he is better at driving and he does use either hand which is different than Corey. He also gets steals and is a better rebounder than Corey and is a better foul shooter as well. There are better shooters than him however from the outside so I don't know if Coach has him as a priority. I have been told that he and Linden would to see him at Linden. I have seen Naz play about 10 times over the last two years and I think he would do well at RU. I also saw Doucoure when his team played at Kean this year and he should be very good for us. The Carey kid from Montclair Immaculate is very good as well. He makes shots from every where on the court. In some ways he reminds me of Quincy. I know he is on our radar as well.

Art, seems like Reid is too inconsistent.

Lots of pressure on these kids to succeed. I hope he finds his consistency.

It's a bit surprising that he's not on any all state team but not because I believe he deserved to be all state..but usually the big named players get the benefit of the doubt.

Seen this kid play numerous times over the years and although I've seen his growth as a player, he just doesn't impact the game at the high school level that you'd expect a player of his caliber would.

At 6'9 230, good ball handling skills, good shooting mechanics and good athletic ability you'd think he'd dominate vs high school competition but I haven't seen that. He's easily frustrated and seems to take plays off but a lot of that has to do with coaching too I suppose.

With that said, RU would be lucky to have a player of his talent on board. With some coaching and more time in the gym on his part, he'd be scary. Sky is the limit for this kid

Tavon Jones on the other hand is every coaches dream. He always plays hard, has a great BBIQ, takes pride in defense.

I think RU should recruit this kid aggressively. He has the heart of Mike Williams but a lot more talented offensively. Imagine a Tavon Jones and Geo Baker backcourt in 2 years. Would be exciting

the thing about Nad Reid and i have seen it over the past few years being around his aau program. he plays to the competition lots of the time. he turns it on and off which is good and bad. i saw him against some of the top bigs in the country on the aau circuit and he lights it up but then when he plays say a team like roselle or elizabeth he plays down to the comp instead of dominating the game. i can say the game is easy for him so if he feels the competition is lacking he plays below his level.

Did not play great vs Rumson either, game went to the wire. He is big and talented though. Motor not so much......

Unfortunately, couple red flags on Reid.

I am sure it is very complicated. I feel for a lot of these kids.

Nothing complicated about competing every day and trying to get better every day.

If this kid goes to one of the Blueblood programs and has to line up every day in practice against similar talents to his own it will be interesting to see how he handles it.

I had a buddy who used to be on the St Pat's staff and occasionally would get to their practices and watch.

Michael Gilchrest and Kyrie Irving were as good on the practice floor as you were going to see------competed in every drill like it was an NBA Final.

This is a huge factor in why they are where they are.

The other kid from Ranney, Muhammad and King from Hudson Catholic, lots of talent left off.

I would love to get Reid, but it seems to me that he isn't getting better. Maybe HS games just bore him lots of the time and he will turn it on in college. But he has never knocked me out when I have watched his games.

There is lots of NJ talent but vey few that want to play for a state school.

Did you take a poll?
Over 25 years without 1 NCAA bid and 11 straight years without 1 winning season is my poll on recruits reactions to playing for Rutgers.Perception matters in recruiting and previous Rutgers head coaches have failed to change the talent level.Coach Pikiell and staff will now have to show they can change recruits perception and close the deal on top tier recruits.Fans will get some answers within the next 6 months on what the squad will be for the next 2 seasons.

Jim, I just put this guy on "ignore" just because I got tired of his constant complaining about the losing over and over and over again. We get it. None of us likes the fact that we've basically sucked for 25 years. But to whine about it constantly is just irritating.

Reid is the best rising senior in the state and needs a coach to push him. His issues can easily be fixed. If you watch him play AAU, his AAU coach since the 7th Grade does not play and pushes him. He needs a college that can bring out the best in him. RC has too many coaches and too many distractions.

I will use Karl Towns as an example. He was soft in HS and loved to shoot three's. It's hard to play physical in HS.

It is pretty common with guys who are just bigger and better than most of the competition they play. You see it in football too.

I like facts over wishful thinking. In contrast some fans want to ignore facts and then use lame excuses to try to explain one losing season after another.Don't you think its about time for a winning season ?
Yes but we can have a winning season without what you just said..We don't have to get the big names in order to do that. Lesser recruits can become major contributors and solid grad transfer finds can change a teams look completely. Look at this year. We were nearly over 500 and we barely added anyone of note. To say we will know exactly what we will have over the next few years based on the 2018s that pikiell lands isn't quite true. It's not as straightforward as that. A lot of shit can happen. This is basketball where there are 5 players on the court at a time.

Jahvon Quinerly is a program changing type of talent. I've talked to people in the know and unfortunately he wouldn't even give RU a thought. He's going to one of Nova, Kansas, Stanford, Zona or Oregon. IMO 1 and done type of talent

You can ignore my comments but you do admit the program has been bad for 25 years. What is your plan to correct the status quo other than kick the can down the road until 2021?

I don't think anyone is kicking the can down the road, but I think it's difficult to go from 7 wins to 22 wins and the NCAAs in 2 years. This is likely a 5 year build with some ups and downs. The best bet for Rutgers next year--depending on who they bring in--is probably 17 wins. Pikiell has to recruit... it's just how it has to be. And then he has to keep the kids believing and sticking around. The kinds of players who will have RU turn around immediately aren't coming here. Not until things really start to change... A winning season is a good goal for next year.

I don't think any objective fan truly believes Rutgers will get a NCAA bid in 2 years.I agree a winning season should be the goal for next season and that will require some new players that are shooters.I just don't see a 5 year build unless there is some winning seasons early on to give Pikiell momentum in recruiting.

BINGO 100% SPOT ON

I've only watched Naz twice, and all I needed to fully agree with NJ4Life. Watched Reid vs Richards in the county semis. Big men, different type athletes and have different games.. While Richards taller, more conventional center, Reid is more athletic. Had a good motor in that game. Statistically against each other even. All I kept thinking is Pikiel, Young, and staff would elevate his game. Reid already has the stuff you can't teach (size, athleticism). I think he'll be a player that will continue getting better each year in college. If he takes to cosching he'll be a beast. Honestly, I think anyone questioning whether he is a take is out of their mind....we need big athletic talent and Reid has a high ceiling.

I have seen Reid many times over the last 3 seasons. I believe that our coaches can work wonders with him. He is big and strong and can pass the ball & rebound. He also can shoot from outside. At times he looks like he is bored but he really wants to win. He does get stripped at times by guards who back up to help guard him. I think that can easily be corrected. I myself really want to see him at RU. He can help us and we can help him.

Trying to coach a kid into having a consistent motor is one of the hardest things I would guess.

I feel for Reid,as I have read some stuff about him. He holds very heavy burdens on himself, unnecessarily. He really wants to make it for his family, and people that depend on him.

When he realizes he enjoys the game, and want to make it for himself, he will do best.

I saw Quinerly twice this year-----ton of talent-----a little too much " look at me " for my liking.

He is not the best senior in the state. He is not even in the top three. He should find that motivation on his own and if he can't, as you are describing, then he should find a high school coach that can push him like his AAU coach.

Just curious what distractions does RC have?

Having seen Naz from my old HS he looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. He needs to step up his game and look to dominate. He needs to be all effort all the time. Hard to instill and needs to be done at a young age. Coaches failed this kid early. I'm trying to instill that mentality in my daughter now. You step between the lines 100% effort all the time whether your up 50 or down 50.
I actually had a Rec coach tell my daughters team to stop playing defense when they were up 10 pts with 5 minutes left. I had to go up to him and tell him when my kid is on the floor she goes all out all the time. It's sad the message some of these youth coaches send to these kids.
I'm going to say the same thing happened with Naz he dominated in grade school so no one pushed him to excel which carries over to HS and then college

I just hope that he's soft enough that he decides to stay at home and play at RU!! Get him with our coaches especially Coach Young and the big kid will become a big man!

Don't get me wrong I want him at RU the kid has great talent but now to bring it out of him is going to be tougher than it would have been in middle school.

Our coaches can bring it out of him. I have complete confidence in them after seeing what they did with Sanders.

If you cant see steps have been taken to correct as you say the status quo then you didn't pay attention to what transpired this past year. People on the board get tired of negativity all the time - especially when this years BB team had a lot of positive things happen to it. Read the post Ashcathchem wrote. he is right on the money with saying we had great improvement with basically the same roster as last year I don't think anyone is saying wait until 2021. Pike will get it done before than.Think Positive.
