NBA legend Kevin Durant sees himself in Rutgers star Ace Bailey: ‘Pure talent’

Well we played half of a season as a Top 5 team from a bart/kenpom/net prospective.

i usually find when almost everyone here disagrees with me i usually end up being right. Of you want to call that a village idiot that fine
I'm sorry man, you said the team would play better if pj hayes took Aces minutes and that he will never be a good college player because he will only be here one year. Thats an amazing take, let's see how we feel about it at the end of the year .

You are misquoting me (i think/hope). Where did i say that.

I also never said he would be a good college player because he was here for 1 year

I did say Pike could me making a mistake getting 1 and dones.

I have also prefaced everything by saying so far

Honestly he's been exactly what I expected. Uber talented and should have a great NBA career. But I would be shocked if he gained 30 pounds and learned to pass and drive the hoop in the next couple of months. Dylan on the other hand has exceeded my expectations. He can create his own shot at will. He's super impressive for a true freshman. Both will be great in the NBA. Dylan game and body are just further along
Yup, this is where I am. Ace was always going to be less efficient than Dylan. Dylan was very college ready, but I thought he may have a more difficult time getting to the rim college than he did in high school. He hasn't. He does try to do a little too much at times, but he's earned that.

He is not getting to the the line and his assist rate is extremely low so he needs to have higher effective FG% than others and he just doesn't

Below are high major players with usage over 25% and minutes over 60%

He is 36 out of 47 eff fg%
His FT rate is 42 out of 47
His assist rate is 46 of 47

I am just quoting facts, sorry.

When you almost never get him the ball unless he is 18+ feet from the basket with a man on him, yeah he probably isn’t going to be highly efficient.

Man, Texas Kevin Durant was who I thought we were getting in Ace...
Texas Kevin Durant was more advanced. Durant is a midrange shooting machine. With the "key or three" mentality that dominates college basketball, he's unlikely to develop that skill at RU.

Texas Durant was an absolute beast. Ace is a super talented scorer but as discussed doesn’t bring other intangibles to impact the game. He has been rebounding more but even there he’s not necessarily a difference maker.

I do cringe having this conversation because every year there are top 5 guys that don’t dominate day 1 and take time to develop. Many end up having great nba careers. We have such awful talent around him other than Harper that we need him to be generational day 1.

The iso half court offense impacts the performance of all five players on the court.Harper is the only player able to dribble drive and make layup baskets and that will be more difficult as opponents double team him causing turnovers and missed shots. Most of Bailey shots are mid range jumpers that he can create because of his height and shooting skillset. There lacks ball and player movement to create 3 point shots from the corners. As such Hayes ,Martini and Acuff are not being used properly.

The Bailey /Harper impact will be decided in the next 10 games.Rutgers needs to win at least seven of those games for the chances for a NCAA bid to be somewhat realistic. It will be difficult to achieve with four games on the road and the other at MSG against Michigan State.Losing to Kennesaw State and Princeton will come back to haunt Rutgers.

Looking at the college stats of both on a per-40-min basis:

Bailey: 20.9 pts (45.8% FG, 33.3% 3P, 62.9% FT), 9.0 rb, 0.8 ast, 1.2 stl, 1.1 blk, 3.1 tov, 2.8 pf
Durant: 28.8 pts (47.3% FG, 40.4% 3P, 81.6% FT), 12.4 rb, 1.5 ast, 2.1 stl, 2.1 blk, 3.2 tov, 2.3 pf

Durant was also playing alongside a Fab 4 freshman class with 3 other NBA players at Texas that year (DJ Augustin, Damion James, Dexter Pittman)
