Nc state vs Rutgers!

I don’t disagree with anything you guys are saying but should the solution be “I’m not going or watching”? Doesn’t that just add to the problem?
Possibly. For me, it was an easy choice to skip as I had a very productive day around the house. Rutgers should be doing everything possible to keep fans interested imo. Limited home matches and throwing in a ranked matchup an hour away from the confines of The RAC doesn't move the needle for me. By the looks of butts in the seat, many others feel the same way.

I'll add my take.

125: Peterson totally abused by Robinson after losing to LIU's Sagaris. Peterson lost the NC State dual with his inj. def.
133: Shawver toughed it out yet again with a win over a tough Hohman. Shawver continues to be the best wrestler on the team.
141: Tough loss by Olivieri to 2 time AA Orine. If Olivieri can get out from bottom he has a chance to win. Feel good about Joey.
149: Clark with an awesome win over an excellent Buesgens. Clark showed up. Good on him.
157: Harer totally abused by Scott. I don't blame Harer. Scott is really good. Maybe folks on here can pump the brakes on Harer a bit and give him time to develop.
165: Barbosa with a huge win over Fields. Excellent work. Let's see more Barbosa. White loses this match easily.
174: Turley beats himself again, but credit to Singleton. No, the refs did not lose this for Turley. He got beat.
184: Soldano. What to say? He looked small (again) and has not developed at all. I would have redshirt him and sent him to 174 next season.
197: Poz is the best wrestler on the team after Shawver. Gets the work done and keeps RU in the running to potentially win the dual.
285: Yara beat by an excellent Trumble. Again, Yara has a hard time with taller and lengthier HWTs and could not get out from bottom.
Very fair and on point assessment.

Not a fan of the two toned singlets, red shorts and white top or black shorts and white top. Leave these when we sign with Nike and let Wisconsin have them... Our solid red, black and white are much better.

He cannot redshirt this season. He has already competed
Has Walsh RS yet? Him and Soldano should have an “indicator” match, maybe give Walsh a couple cracks at ranked guys, and see how both do at Midlands, whoever does better overall starts for the postseason.

Yes, Walsh RS last season. And I think you will see Walsh get a few chances and Midlands could decide the starter.

Why worry about a redshirt/medical? He has declined each year, so let him go. That said, why has he declined each year, especially now with an upper-weight coach available?

Soldano has lost to a no-one and a wrestler ranked above him. In between, he beat a highly-ranked guy. Walsh has not beaten any ranked guys and has lost to unranked. Goodale has praised Walsh and said he's one of the best (which means what?) but I don't trust his assessments. He also said Yara-Slav is much better after his training in Europe. We need an explanation for Soldano's lack of progress.

On the other hand, the criticism of Harar has been rather harsh. He won what he should have won, then lost big to Number 8 ranked Scott. That was his first match against a ranked guy. Given his performance against others on the team, he's clearly the best guy for the position, as is Barbosa at 165. They will both have mixed results this first year.

There is a bigger issue back down at 125. Peterson has taken a piss. I thought the absence of Rivera would be a problem, but that alone doesn't explain his decline. I hope Shawver can maintain his edge. Back up to 174, Turley said he stayed for another year because he is feeling good and healthy, so what gives?

Thing w Harer is he had a lotta hype, and it’s ok to lose to a ranked guy, but there was really nothing positive to take away from his match.. are u even sure he’s clearly the best guy at 157 anymore? I don’t think Clark at 157 would have gotten teched.. and if Barbosa wants to go 157 I don’t think it’s clear Harer is best guy rn...

Look back at the "indicator" matches. What do they indicate? Hard to say there's anyone better, and we need Barbosa at 165; he beat white comfortably twice.
Harer tech condomitti 15-0 in 2 mins
Harer tech weaver 20-4 second period
Harer 13-1 over cetta
Harer 4-1 over Turley

Lets just wait and see how Harer looks after 5 matches.. if he’s not ready I don’t think it would be a bad play for him to RS.. then Clark/Cetta can slot in at 157 or if Barbosa is a more natural 157(but bumped up previously for Harer) he could slot in there and White can go 165.

I realize we're a passionate group, but isn't it too early to start bashing the team? I get the frustrations with 125 and 184. Not sure what's up with those two, but I'm certainly going to cheer for them, whatever they're going through and whenever they're on the mat. I get the vibe that 125 could be going through some personal stuff (just a guess from afar).

I was extremely high on Soldano when he was in HS. I do think a RS would be good, but that is too late now. He's still going to give us some big wins, so I'm not going to ever give up on him. Also, name the last RU wrestler who beat a Big Ten champ? Or name the amount of times that has happened for RU? He really just needs to tighten up some things and get to some fundamentals. The talent is there and the kid he lost too is really good. And if SCW is truly better then let it be determined over the course of the season. Soldano has a handful of ranked wins under his belt and deserves the first dibs.

NC State has been a top ranked team for over a decade now. There's a reason why they were ranked higher than us. Granted, we matched up well on paper.

The match was pretty telling. Overall, I thought RU did pretty good. Lots of improvements to be made. Compared to the week before their conditioning improved big time.

Really excited about 165!

Does Smith get the nod this week at 125? That's going to be another first big test if he gets the match. If the result is the same as Harer, don't be hard on the kid (or all the young guys for that matter).

Love this forum but I don't think the constant negativity from some on the new coaches and the underperformance of certain athletes throughout the years helps the team and the recruiting whatsoever. How could it?

Obviously some changes could be made, but harping on them every other thread ain't helping the cause for top recruits, transfers or coaches coming. That said, I still think we have a lot of good to offer.

Get ready for VT. They're really good. Let's give them hell.

I'd like to know if Smith has gotten big and strong enough. He has had to gain quite a bit of weight and, hopefully, strength. He is undoubtedly a talent. Is there any indication of how he does against the others at his weight?

But those are the things we all want to see corrected so top recruits will want to come. Not talking about it resolves nothing. Unfortunately, talking about it also resolves nothing.

I get it. I know it's a double edged sword. And it should be mentioned at times. Though, every thread seems to go toward the same negative rabbit hole of what has been already stated. I'm no saint; I get frustrated at times too and have said things in the past that I now regret. But some folks constantly complain about the same stuff publicly which is not helping the program or its future whatsoever.

Could you imagine being a recruits parent and reading the shit that is spewed on here? It's not like they don't. Who'd want their kid to get ripped by adults all day long?

I.e. We have a 3x PA champ who lost to a much older vet and has a younger brother about to join the team, who is lined up to be another 3xer and this is how we talk about his performance in match #4 of his career? Same goes for all the other athletes. Give it a break; we can do better.

True. So, what to do? Fans need to have an outlet. Things also need to be fixed.

True again. Many top recruits have done better against highly ranked opponents, but your point is still valid. Harer has shown that he is the best at 157, and I still think he has great potential. He'll have some mixed results this year and learn from them. I think he will easily qualify for NCAA championships and will be a stronger wrestler then than now. I hope he is developed and shows year-over-year improvement. Others, however, are quite puzzling when they lose to freshmen and/or unranked opponents after several years in the program, especially those who have been ranked and have performed well in the past.

You guys are relentless! I sent this to his family and I hope I get a response if I do I will share with their approval. What I know is Harer could have went almost anywhere and choose to be different and come to us. I’ve tried to share info I get probably should not do that in this group so that’s my mistake not to happen anymore. I will share if I receive a response from them.

I don't think that was necessary. The comments were limited to one or two (?) individuals. I hope you shared my comments as well to show balance. The information you shared could only have been seen as positive regarding Harer. Please don't stop; we have too little shared here as it is.

Hahaha where did you see this? Listen they have every right to think what they want. Conner got over whelmed and didn’t have a good match. Not sure if pressure or excitement of first big test. Regardless what it was I know my son and he will grow from it. Whoever these people are have they taken into consideration conner hasn’t been underdog in 3 years or been takedown once in past 3 years. It all plays into it. He will be just fine. He is stepping in as true freshman for his team and coaches he’s gonna take some lumps but he is also gonna give out some. Conner loves coach Goodale and the staff as do I. They will fix whatever happened. I can promis u it wasn’t wrestling because he can wrestle with anyone. My boys have only ever been coached by me so this is learning curve for conner. He will be better from it. Yes of course you can share with whoever these people are. We are Scarlett knight thru and thru. If they don’t want my boys I’m sure lots would. Thanks for reaching out with this but I have no doubt he’s competeing in the ncaas this year for a medal. It’s novemeber we want to thrive in March!

I agree with Pess right above. Theres no need to forward anything to anybody. Dagger made an observation on the loss and questioned if others could have done better in that match. We do appreciate your info, so keep it coming.

His response I thought was how much they love Rutgers like we do.

Gibson back after thanksgiving and certified at 125 hmmmmmmm
Shawver 6-1 fongaro
Clark 7-2 Cetta
Harer 4-1 Barbosa

Outstanding info, thanks once again.

Shawver is wrestling heavier guys and doing well. He is one guy who has shown continuous improvement since arriving.
Gibson... Yes, hmmmm. I hope he has stayed active while recovering from his surgery. I'm interested in learning how he competes in the room. He was a great competitor, and, barring any more injuries, he can be again. I'm still wondering about Smith; he's another big talent, but we don't know if he's big enough yet. Peterson, like Soldano, needs to wake up.
Clark... No surprise. He's back to his high school weight, where he should have been his first year, rather than going up two weight classes and getting beat up.
Harer.... Love to see that. It just adds to his qualifications to be the starter at 157.
Barbosa... Looked good on Sunday. Hope he starts at 165.
Poz... expected. Packer: I had hoped to hear good things about him. Casale didn't impress this past Saturday.
Walsh... I hope he does well, but he will be going up against No. 12, down from No. 5 the week before. Soldano also lost to a higher-ranked guy and only dropped one ranking due to his big win against Ruth. If benching him is intended as a wake-up call, then I hope it works; otherwise, who wins in a wrestle-off? Don't be too quick to give up on him, but do drill his ass and head into shape.

LOL..you went to the parents because one poster questioned the kids performance? Seems everyone else is pretty excited to see the kids progress. Kiddagger is one of the best supporters of the program and is a troll to other teams. You need to get some thicker skin my man. I have friends with kids on a few teams , the last thing I would do is talk to them about what negative message board posters say when they vast majority have been nothing but positive..even if they were all negative I would never do that . Whatare you trying to do? Piss them off?

I was actually unclear what he even sent to them. Was it some negative comments from the board? I cant imagine why someone would do that. I appreciate the info he brings to the board but that is not cool. Everyone here obviously wants Harer to succeed here.

See post 266. He sent screenshots of KidDagger posts to the family. Ridiculous.
