Pagano is in, Gross unfortunately is not. Sucks because Conan Jennings is in at heavy and Gross owned him twice this year. I think Gross will qualify next year as a senior. 7 NCAA Qualified wrestlers is still very good, a year after sending all 10. Goodale will probably get to the point where we send at least 7 a year.

Below is the at large qualifying process. A wrestler must obtain a "Bronze Standard" to be eligible for an at large. I have not seen the updated RPI and coaches rank after the Big10 tourney(Gross was not in the top 33 in either prior to the tournament). So the only Bronze standard he earned was "Qualifying event one place below auto qualifying" His win over Jennings is not a win over a preallocated wrestler. However, lets say he did earn one other to get a Bronze standard. Jennings still had him in every category except Head to Head and Qualifying event Placement(Jennings beat 4 automatic qualifiers so while it stinks Gross beat him twice, Jennings did have better resume).

Win %, RPI and coaches’ ranking that includes all
competition through the qualifying events. Wrestlers who meet or exceed any two of the following criteria will be labeled
“Bronze Standard”:
●● .700 Win %
●● Top 33 RPI
●● Top 33 CR
●● .700 winning percentage against all competition
●● One win against a wrestler receiving automatic qualification via an earned position (preallocated)
●● Qualifying event placement one below automatic qualification
Only Bronze Standard wrestlers will be eligible for selection as at-large qualifiers. A wrestler must have participated in his
respective conference or regional qualifying tournament in order to be considered for at-large selection to the championships. The
NCAA Wrestling Committee will use the following weighted criteria, in priority order, to evaluate the Bronze Standard wrestlers:
●● Head-to-head competition — 25 percent
●● Quality wins — 20 percent
●● CR — 15 percent
●● Results against common opponents — 10 percent
●● RPI — 10 percent
●● Qualifying event placement — 10 percent
●● Win % — 10 percent

There's no doubt in my mind that Gross will use this as motivation. I mean...the guy had a winning record in the B1G this year and went .500 in the tourney. Give him a summer of S&C and I think he comes back hungry and will qualify next year.

We are already at the point of sending at least 7 a year. We did this already the last few years and any less then 7 in future years would be a dissapointment. The next step is putting more on the podium.

Anyone know when the brackets are released? I think it was the Monday night before the tourney last year...does that sound right?

I just did some mini research...looks like a week prior, at the least. Perhaps even tomorrow evening, as last year it was released on Wednesday night.

7 in is a huge accomplishment. Very easily could have been 4 if things hadn't gone our way. Congrats to all, but especially to Correnti, JVB and Pagano for getting it done and keeping this program on the rise through what was really a rebuilding year.

For Gross, the fact he is even in the conversation is insane. He essentially started this year completely unprepared to compete in the Big Ten and wound up the first guy out of the NCAA tourney. He deserves major props and should be seriously proud of what he has accomplished. I expect him to be a force next year, especially considering Medberry, Kroells and Jensen are all graduating.

Major credit goes to Leo for coaching up our upperweights. Correnti and Gross I had little to no expectations of at the beginning of the year, and now Correnti is going to the NCAAs as a true freshman, and Gross literally was one win away from joining him. If finishing 12th in the nation in Dual season and sending 7 to NCAAs is a rebuilding year for us moving forward, then we are about to explode on the scene as a true national power in our strong years. Next year should be good with most of the team being seasoned veterans.

So tonight the bracket will be released.

Do we think Ash/Van Brill/ Theo are the only seeded wrestlers?

Ash - 5 seed
Van Brill - 15 or 16
Theo - 14-16

What do you guys think?
