denying the truth, doesn't make it go away.
“The fact is I’m a cheerleader for this country, I love our country, and I don’t want people to be frightened. I don’t want to create panic, as you say,” President Trump says when asked if he downplayed the danger of COVID-19 to reduce panic.

All Trump did there was try to make an excuse for lying to the public when the truth might have saved some lives and made health officials job fighting to protect American a little easier.
Too bad political agendas deny the truth in an effort to ignore the lies Trump told the American public about the virus.
LMFAO, What exactly has Biden done to safe lives? You can't be serious. Come On Man. I believe you've made a "minor incursion" into insanity. 😉

On #1, Biden and Harris induced holes in many people's brains, "including yours", long before anyone even thought to lose faith in vaccines.
Why is “including yours” in quotes here?

anyway, no, this stuff predates Biden/Harris and even Trump

No excuses on unanticipated "things", you would NEVER have given Trump that luxury
I mean if you read my post carefully you can tell what I think of the idea of Biden having a plan* to defeat covid. The plan was to let the things he thought were going to happen play out and take credit. Pretty similar to Trump’s plan to take credit for vaccines which didn’t work out either for similar reasons.
, and you know it. FJB. PS. you also never tried to give a reason Biden has gone out of his way to call out 1/2 the country, The Great healer/Uniter, my as$.
No idea what any of this is or how it’s relevant to my post, seems like a random airing of grievances thrown in at the end. Festivus, this is not.

in case you missed this in thread
On Jan. 20, Fauci told CNN, "It really is an evolving situation, and we have to be prepared for the worst. I mean, I don't think there is cause for panic on anyone's part but we certainly need to be following it and watching this very carefully."

The next day, the first country had its first confirmed case. On Fox Business’ "Lou Dobbs Tonight", Fauci said "I believe it can still be stopped, Lou, and it's completely impossible to predict what the scope is going to be, what the kinetic is going to be. … this is something that will likely spread more before we actually get it under control."

With just 15 cases reported as of Feb. 22, Fauci told CNN, "At this particular moment, Michael, the risk is very low. But, and I have to underline ‘but’, this could change and it could change rapidly. Getting back to what you said about a pandemic, if this evolves into a pandemic there's no way we in the United States are going to escape having more infections in this country."

On Feb. 29, with cases still numbering just 24, Fauci spoke in the morning on NBC’s "Today Show" and later that day at the White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing. On NBC, he said:
"Right now at this moment there's no need to change anything that you’re doing on a day by day basis. Right now the risk is still low, but this could change. I’ve said that many times even on this program. You’ve got to watch out because although the risk is low now, you don't need to change anything you’re doing. When you start to see community spread, this could change and force you to become much more attentive to doing things that would protect you from spread."

And at the White House briefing:
"The country as a whole — because we get asked that all the time — still remains at low risk. But when we say that, we want to underscore that this is an evolving situation."

Just looking at part of what Fauci was saying makes for a whole different outlook than if you take into account of everything he sad.
When the virus first came Fauci advised normalcy, but also claimed the situation could change for the worst.
So what he advised was live like you normaly do , but be aware the situation could change at any moment and you might have to change your lifestyle to protect yourself.
An honest assesment shouldn't be crurisized when the President ( at the time) outright lied about te danger and he gets a pass by some here that refuse to seet he truth
Missed it? That is exactly what we have been saying. Fauci downplayed it instead of predicting what COULD happen.. what the worst case scenario was and how to defend against it.

But somehow, Trump was supposed to ignore Fauci and his acolytes?

Like the CIA let us down on many occasions, like the FBI and DOJ let us down when the Russia Hoax was going on.. like FEMA let us down on Katrina and Sandy.. the medical arm of the DC swamp let us all down on CoVid.. including misleading Trump on many occasions.

Are we arguing live sporting events, students in school for live instruction, large gatherings, traveling etc are bad?
Or are they ok just wear a mask?
Get vaccinated?

Trump was advised about the seriousness of the virus and ignored thast advice and lied to the public.
No excuses can be given for that and blaming his advisers is only trying to shift the duilt Trump bares alone.
He knew Covid could be deadly from the beginning and he downplayed it.
Then cast doubt on ways that were put forward in an effort to curb the spread.
Trying to excuse his lies don't work when the facts have proven otherwise.
Alternative facts are not accepted because the true facts prove he lied and he admited to lying from the beginning.
Don't blame Trump's advisers or anyone else for the lies Trump told, he was warned and refused to warn the public, only caused problems because he lied from the beginning and continued to do so., knowing he was lying.
But that's what liars do and there are too many on this board willing to excuse him by yrying to place the blame on others.

Still waiting for specific examples on what exactly Trump did that made people "refuse to follow the best health advice and protection". Also, instead of regurgitating NYT or CNN partisan narratives, here's another opportunity for you to learn something:
Well, if Trump lied, so did Anthony S. Fauci.
  • On Jan. 21, Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview that “this is not a major threat for the people of the United States, and this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about.”
  • On Jan. 26 when he was asked whether Americans should be scared, Fauci replied, “I don’t think so. The American people should not be worried or frightened by this. It’s a very, very low risk to the United States, but it’s something that we, as public health officials, need to take very seriously.”
  • On Jan. 31 (the day Trump announced banning travel from China, saving countless lives), Fauci said, “We still have a low risk to the American public, but we want to keep it at a low risk.”
  • On Feb. 3, Fauci predicted that because of the travel restrictions Trump had put in place, “I think you are going to see a dampening down” of US cases.
  • On Feb. 17, Fauci told USA Today that the danger to Americans was “just minuscule” and that people should be more worried about the “real and present danger” of seasonal flu. He further warned against “outlandish extrapolations of fear” and advised that “now, in the United States, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask.”
  • On Feb. 28, Fauci finally acknowledged, “It could be really, really bad,” but added, “I don’t think it’s gonna be, because I think we’d be able to do the kind of mitigation. It could be mild.”
  • On Feb. 29 he said, “Right now, at this moment, there is no need to change anything that you’re doing on a day-by-day basis. Right now the risk is still low, but this could change. … I mean, this could be a major outbreak. I hope not. Or it could be something that’s reasonably well controlled. At the end of the day, this will ultimately go down.”
  • On March 9 he said, “If you are a healthy young person, there is no reason if you want to go on a cruise ship, go on a cruise ship. But … an elderly person who has an underlying condition, I would recommend strongly that they do not go on a cruise ship.”
  • As late as March 10, Fauci was still adamant that “as a nation, the risk is relatively low” but admitted that “there are parts of the country right now that are having community spread in which the risk there is clearly a bit more than that.” He added that “we would like the country to realize that as a nation, we can’t be doing the kinds of things we were doing a few months ago. That it doesn’t matter if you’re in a state that has no cases or one case.”
  • Three days later, on March 13, Trump declared a national emergency.
  • And on March 16 the president urged all Americans to avoid restaurants, bars, discretionary travel and groups of more than 10 people, while states began issuing orders to shelter in place.

What this shows is that until mid-March, no one knew we were facing a once-in-a-generation pathogen. The real question is: Why did Fauci and all of the government’s smartest medical minds take so long to recognize the danger and advise the president to take action? The answer is because they expected this outbreak to be like the SARS, avian flu, swine flu, Middle East respiratory syndrome, Zika and Ebola outbreaks before it — a serious public health crisis, but one they could handle. They were wrong. When they finally realized they were wrong, and advised the president to implement mitigation measures, he did so — shutting down a booming economy to protect public health.

The suggestion that Trump knew how dangerous the virus was, but intentionally misled Americans and failed to take action, is demonstrably wrong. What is “beyond despicable” is for Biden to suggest that he did.

Good questions, zap. Here's my take:

Omicron is so contagious that almost everyone who isn't vaxxed and boosted will get it. And a lot of those folks probably will as well.

Being double-vaxxed and boosted will give you great protection against Omicron making you really sick.

Omicron is less severe to anyone than delta, but it will send a lot of folks (typically the unvaxxed without infected immunity) to the hospital, and the deaths will continue, but the rate of death will decline (i.e., fewer deaths per covid case, but many more cases than with delta).

The play now is no longer herd immunity or anything like it. The play now is to live through masses getting Omicron. And then it will begin to die out.

Masks will help in slowing done the spread, which will help hospitals cope. High quality ones a lot better than cloth. I'd wear one in groups and on planes and the like.

Going remote or having kids wear masks in schools depends kind of on how you look at stuff. I would go for in-school with high quality masks.

The absolute key for any individual is to get vaxxed and boosted. Even if you've already had covid. That is the best protection.

We're shifting down here to doing what we can to get as many people boosted as possible before the inevitable Omicron wave hits. Moms Skillethead (who says hi), and I are boosted.

Stay safe!
