New Adidas Sneakers for the team

And this is why I can't stand when student-athletes complain they need to get paid. For 4 years they get free school, food, clothes, shoes and living, as well as academic help, usually get some sort of job hookup (if they dont go pro) after college. These athletes are normally well taken care of.

To be fair, I'm sure that their reactions would have been ten-fold if they walked in and saw cash waiting for them.

Free health care while on scholarship too. I mean FREE. Got a headache? Call the team Doc & get asprin. Need supplements? Do not go to GNC call team Doc. They also get a per diem.

At the same time, these kids make tremendous sacrifices to stay in shape, become better players so they don't lose their scholarships.

6am workouts
Classes
Afternoon workouts
Study
Back in the gym to get shots up
Play 2k
Sleep

No time for a part time job.

I didn't mean for it to sound like they come here and do nothing, but if you had to choose between working part time at CVS/Footlocker/Best buy etc. or Going to the gym to play basketball, and lift weights to get through school, which would you choose.

And how does the BIG TEN do as a result of their efforts?

Not to open a can of worms. Just saying.

I feel bad for the Olympic sports kids. They are often splitting scholarships and don't get the love that football/basketball gets, while dedicating the same amount of time and effort.

Basketball is an Olympic sport.

@Woody522 If I get to choose I choose basketball but these kids don't get to choose. Most of the kids on the basketball team can't afford college tuition, room & board. Fortunately for them they've been blessed with physical attributes & they combined hard work to get that scholarship offer.

@higgins3 the B1G does very well.

I am pretty sure it's a widely accepted term to include non-rev sports, though wrestling is considered one and can be a rev sport. Same with lax at some schools.

Many "Olympic" sport kids can't afford going to college, and their scholarships are getting split up 4 ways, if not more. That's what loans are for.

On the whole, football/basketball players have it very good compared to the other athletes at schools. Especially male athletes. With Title 9 stipulating the same scholarship expenditures and there being no female equivalent of football, many of those Olympic sport athletes have bigger scholarships, even full rides in some cases.
