Ed Warriner? Hasn't the complaint for Buckeye fans been that their offense had trouble clicking at times this year? That seems like a dubious choice.
Where does it say "emerge as top targets"?? All I see is "emerge as candidates" and I don't even see Golden metioned in the linked article.
I'm surprised the APP misspelled "Warinner." In 4 years many couldn't learn to spell "Carroo." For that reason, I hope the job goes to Chris Ash.
Based off of stars on rivals it does not look like Golden is that great of a recruiter. The recruiting talent didn't increase while he was at Temple and Miami has always been able to recruit regardless who the head coach is. Being the former head coach of Miami while sounds nice doesn't look so well when you look at his firing and the airplanes flying overhead.
There is no such thing as reporting any more, just regurgitation.

So much this. I'd prefer an offensive minded HC but seriously, why would we scoff at OSU coaches over Golden?
Go poach another P5 head coach. Mullen, Rich Rod, etc. What would a real B1G program do? What would OSU, Michigan, MSU, PSU do in this situation? We want to compete with them in the B1G east we need to step up and think like them. I want a big name coach that will walk into NJ and the NJ recruits will know the name and will want to play for him from day 1. Get th money for the buy out and let's get serious.
When Ash was at Arkansas his D played very soft. - go ask Southern or other Arkansas fans about him. Go ask OSU fans about Warriner.
Even Maryland, who have UA backing and good local recruiting, had to go the coordinator route. I don;'t think RU is as good of a job as some here think it is. Not very easy to poach successful P5 coaches.
Kyle Flood didn't coach at ND, Illinois, Kansas, and two academies before he got our gig. He didn't have the three greatest offensive years as oc of Kansas that they ever had there getting to the damn orange bowl in the process.
Oh and Flood was ol coach here. We ain't OSU. We ain't ND either.
Oh and I don't see where Warriner was demoted ever from being an OC like Kyle was.
Apples and oranges my friend. His resume reminds me of Dantonio. A coaching lifer getting his first shot in his mid 50s (read young enough but not green).
Not saying he's the same as Flood. Just saying there are enough similarities at first glance to make me feel uneasy.
I hear you. Let's just not have Flood ruin it for every OL coach out there. If we hire this guy and we become know for our o lines that's a win. You have an ol you have a shot.
Now if I find out Warriner was a high school math teacher I would pull my support however!
Actually, I find it even more disturbing that we may be looking at both Ohio State assistants at the same time. If that's true, it just feels like we're tossing spaghetti up at the wall to see which piece sticks.
So all this excitement with Hobbs and this is what we end up with ?
We'll see what happens, but if we don't get the right coach, everything that's happened in the past few days will be for nothing. We'll still be spinning our wheels going nowhere.
You're not poaching P5 head coaches unless you're the likes of Michigan, Nebraska or Ohio State. You're just not, and if that's your baseline you might as well not bother. Half of the current B1G coaches are in their first P5 HC job. Five of them are in their first HC job, period.
Has been OC at Kansas and Army , but he really doesn't impress as far as I'm concerned.

IF the reports are true that Rutgers will pay up to $4 million a year for a new coach (hard to believe), then those seeking a big name coach may get their wish.
Was that a hint you were dropping there? Or are you just sharing an opinion.... I cant really tell anymore on here lately

you would think..... which makes me suspect that the rumblings of opening up the check book big time, was not up to 4 or 5 million, but 2 mill, a bit more....
I find it hard to believe that RU could not have gotten a really long look at a big name if the offer was going to be 4 to 5 mill/year....
anyway..... we have discussed and it has been tossed about that we might have locked up Herman or Mullen a year or two ago, but we waited too long and they are now too much
in demand for RU to get them..... these two probably had a bunch of question marks at that point, our fans here might have been afraid of their hire back then
hopefully this guy Ash might fit in that category and we choose him and he blossoms.....we seem to have found a lot wrong with Diaco, Golden, Cristobal, etc, so I see no reason
to go with any of them over Ash, who has a clean slate.... the experience of being a head coach of those other three has not been impressive, yet some insist we have to
have an experienced head coach....
Dan Mullen, Charlie Strong, Kyle Whittingham, Doc Holliday, Gary Andersen, Tom Hermann.....
If ther is a qualified candidate coaching under Urban Meyer you grab him and hold on like grim death. Urban isn't that old and to have that kind of success with former assistants is fairly remarkable. I want Ash bad and just about all I know about him is Urban wanted him enough to poach him from Arkansas and he comes from the hottest coaching tree in CFB.
Good post. Somehow the coordinator route was good enough for small time Georgia. The Meyer coaching tree has been pretty successful - doubters should go watch the video of Ash when he was hired by OSU. He'd make a great candidate and OSU guys rave about him. Everyone thinks of Luke Fickell as the guy behind their D because he's been there forever, but Ash was brought in for a reason.
