NJSIAA wrestling & FB splits reversed

Good decision. Nj one of the only states with one champ per weight class in wrestling

Agreed for wrestling. As much of a team-oriented guy as I am, IMO HS wrestling in NJ usually boils down to 1 thing- 'AC'. The tournament is fine and IMO the best NJ HS sporting event there is. Leave it alone.

Even if it wasn't reversed, there would still only be one champ per weight....That was never the issue... I can easily see both sides to this...and also agree, there is no easy viable fix..

I see forfeits in Football if they schedule a good Parochial vs a mid- low public. Heck Group 5 champ Ridgewood no longer plays Bosco, BC, PC or St Joes. Not sure what the Public coaches and ADs can do however at this point. You would think they would have asked the Dept of Ed official his opinion before going to all the trouble of taking votes and re writing by laws. Back to the drawing boards I guess.

In Region tourny wrestling Bergen Catholic might win 10 of the 14 weight classes. In the districts maybe more, depending who else in their District.

The creation of the 'parochial region' though would have artificially skewed the tournament though. Since it's truly a 1:1 affair once you get to districts, it almost shouldn't matter that much if you go to a public or parochial, and trying to put many of the higher seeds into one region waters everything down once you get to AC.

I'm glad it was reserved. Some public schools complain of playing the parochials, but will beat a public school senseless (Ridgewood 40- Passaic 7) but would cry if they have to face a Bergen or Bosco. Old Tappan 68-13 vs. Tenafly. OT athletic director was a big supporter, but never once said anything about his school beating on others.

Still nothing about magnet schools who can take in any county player or charter school who can take any city eligible player has not been addressed.

Football yes they should be divided. It's a team sport and the amount of talent they take from all over NJ is just ridiculous. To make publics play privates when they are restricted to township borders is beyond asinine. What's the point of having all-star teams made up of players from around the state and some not even in state, beat up on publics. It makes no sense when the playing field is completely unequal.

Just look back to North Bergen forfeiting their state title. High school sports in NJ is dirty. Both parochial and public

How many players from Haddonfield HS, Audubon HS, Sterling HS, etc actually live in those towns?

so u wanna fault the guy cuz his hometown kids are better than another schools hometown kids? the Non-publics are basically all star teams!! sorry but your arguement holds no water there

Let's see: teams who recruit versus teams that don't.....

I disagree.....

In wrestling , if anything, it makes the State tourney more competitive.

Top 4 in Parochial region get in.
Top 3 elsewhere.

In football , my cousins team,PCTI, is a great example, they play Don Bosco and get beat up. Lose to Ridgewood the following week in a close game after getting beat up the week before.

Destroy Ridgewood in the State finals.

PCTI is a school that shouldn't complain about playing Bosco. They can get any kid they want in Passaic county. And I was at that Ridgewood game at PCTI, I honestly felt PCTI threw the game. PCTI qb is a good athlete.

Guarantee you they didn't throw the game.

They got beat up pretty good physically by Bosco.

.......and they don't recruit because unlike some head coaches PCTI's has integrity and takes what gets admitted and coaches them up, he also has to fight to keep some of his good kids from going Parochial once they are at tech.

Limit the areas the parochial schols can recruit. California did that 10 years ago and it broke up the De La Salle dynasty. It's baloney that the big 5 can recruit from like 8 NJ counties. They are taking kids from towns that don't need help getting exposure either. Or scrimmaging against big time public schools and then recruiting their players after the game, it's out of control and has been for several years now.

Ridgewood is not the group 5 champs. Now back to the topic.[winking]

I guess some of you do not realize public schools can recruit also. Just pay tuition ( same as paying for private tuition ) and you can go to a public HS. Ask Rumson girls Bball. When they were kicking butt more then half the girls did not live in Rumson or "lived" in apartments the coach owned.
