For those of you keeping track of conference title chances, it's a bit of a doozy on our end. Believe it or not, there still is a legitimate path for RU to tie for the title but a lot of things have to go right. For one, RU is going to have to win out. Another loss and there's next to no chance of a title. Beyond that, these are some results we have to root for (assuming RU wins out which....is definitely possible but we need lot of faith here):
Wisconsin over Northwestern - this one is a little weird. But basically we need Northwestern to lose at some point and this game is one of the more likely ways that they can. This would make it so that RU at worst would tie Northwestern in the standings
PSU over Wisconsin - we need Wisconsin to lose points in some way. This will be their second road trip in only 5 days before they then take on Rutgers at Yurcak 3 days afterward. This could be a perfect trap game for a Wisconsin team that has only faced the bottom 5 of the conference and with PSU effectively out of the title race, a PSU win here would be a huge help.
(If Wisconsin does not win over Northwestern) MSU over Northwestern - more or less the same reasons as Wisconsin over Northwestern. Northwestern needs to lose in order for Rutgers to tie their placement. That said, this puts more pressure on that MSU vs RU game to end the season, as it would make MSU winning the only way they'll win the conference and RU winning the only way they'll have a shot at tying for it. So while this is an effective alternative should Northwestern win vs Wisconsin, it's a result that only gives one way to the title (though tbh, there's next to no wiggle room as it is) which is why this next result is also a vital one to watch.
Ohio State over Northwestern and/or MSU - OSU is in the same position as RU is in terms of the standings: hoping for big slip-ups from MSU/NW/Wisc. With the same maximum points as RU, OSU winning wouldn't harm RU in the standings unless RU loses a game in there. Because of this, having NW and MSU lose points against OSU would, again, be a huge help, especially because both games are in Columbus. We definitely want losses here and not ties, as Northwestern and MSU already have ties and need to lose the full 3 points for RU to have a shot.
