No. 2 Seed Rutgers Women's Soccer to Host No. 7 Seed Minnesota for B1G Quarterfinal

I went last year I am pretty sure there is a charge since it’s technically a BIG 10 tournament game not just a Rutgers home game

If RU wins today, it would be the higher seeded team in the semi-finals. Are those games played at the higher seeded teams' fields?

This match , as well as FH game can be seen on BTN PLUS w a subscription or Flo Sports w a subscription. Flo carries all BTN Plus events.

FLO is a little bit more ($25 a year more or 2.50/month more) but you get to see everything that Flo carries for all College , HS and International sports. A ton of content.

Ugh ... maybe FH gets it done ... or it’s on to Lacrosse
FH is still tied, but similar game trajectory. OSU has been applying pressure all game and our GK seems to be lights out. Hopefully a different outcome here, but OSU has been controlling the game.

Field Hockey losing 1-0 very late in game

Kind of expected both to lose ... WSOCCER will lose in 2nd round if NCAA, and FH will be left out of the tourney ... last title hope for the year is Lacrosse.

I’ve honestly stopped caring about winning a B1G title. What’s the point

Soccer team had 4 clear breakaways & couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. Ru controlled play in the second half, but you've got to score.

Love reading your posts (even though this is not a good news post).

You are the unsung cheerleader and dad of all “minor” sports.
Need to make you an unofficial coach to help these teams out!

Disappointing on both fronts. Someone needs to light a fire under the Women's Soccer Team.

I have watched a number of games on BTNplus but this was the first game I made all year and it’s a whole different perspective.
First as RUDad02 said we had 4 clear breakaways. 2 of them did not even get a shot off as our girls who I am amazed appear to have no foot skills played the ball way too far out in front of them and the goalie covered the ball. The other 2 were very weak shots which the goalie stopped easily. I believe we only had one other shot on goal the rest of the game. The closest we came to scoring was when their player deflected a shot and it had a lot of spin and their goalie misplayed it and it went just wide.

I was even more amaze watching this team in person how little speed we have in the midfield as we were beaten to almost every ball. The foot skills of these supposed top players are very poor. I don’t know if that’s recruiting but boy are we lacking.

And the offense forget it we have none I mean there is nothing doing there. It’s impossible to have offense when every time our girls get the ball there back is to the goalie no way you can create anything from that position and also with no midfield speed every time the other team goes into the offensive zone we drop 10 players and this does 2 things one we have no one up top but Amirah versus 3-4 players but also any players that now come up for offensive support have to make almost a full field run which expends so much energy and also when you are not that fast you are not going to get by the defense when you have to run an extra 20-30 yards.
(As an aside the female line judge in our offensive zone in the second half had no clue about offsides as she made three horrendous calls that may have cost us )

Right now I know we had a very good record but O’ Neill has to step up the recruiting and get some speed and some girls in here but also his coaching.
Again I know he has been very successful but if were going to get to the ultimate goal than we need better and faster players

Can't argue with this, certainly not that we need more speed at midfield. Provenzano, Almer, & Whitley are very technically sound & tough soccer players but lack speed. Provenzano & Almer have been particularly solid all year. Adora just does not have quick feet IMO.

rich, didn't have an angle to see the of sides or not, but wouldn't surprise me at all that the ref had them all wrong. Don't know if you saw a hand ball in the closing seconds as we were pressing. Quite sure there was one. I know I shouted as did another fan. Huge non-call if I had it right.

Yes saw the non call on the hand ball was a definite and should have been a penalty kick. The other thing when Nneka Moneme got that through ball for her breakaway before she even ran under it I said to my daughter who was a very good high school player she won’t score and sure enough she didn’t even get the shot off. Also noticed Brittany Laplant did not play at all in the second half

Also I was sitting behind the Minnesota bench so I had a perfect view of the offside calls in the second half. The only one that was right was the last on Moneme when everyone yelled in the stands but she was offsides by at least 3 yards

Top 10 RPI and coaches I highly doubt they get left out if a 16-team field.

This is a constant with us--getting screwed by the officials. Last year in a 0-0 tie with PSU, PSU committed a clear & flagrant hand ball in the box--no call. Garbage like this & the off sides calls etc, happens to us all the time. Very, very few teams are capable of beating the other team & the refs. O'Neill & Hobbs need to get all over this. Let the chips fall where they may. Not fair to the girls who play their guts out.

LaPlant's shins are really bad. After 3 years they have finally diagnosed her problem & she is having surgery after the season. Hope she comes back for a lights out senior year. Regarding Nneka's breakaway. You're right they dribble too far ahead. Also, I'm sure you noticed that each of our girls who had a breakaway is tall & long legged--Nneka, Amirah & Chantell. Don't know enough, but suspect it may have something to do with their tendency to push the ball too far ahead. With Nneka & Chantell it is characteristic. Amirah generally has better control, but can get it out front as well. She had a clear chance to shoot on that first one. Can't clearly remember the 2nd. Think she did on that one as well.

No. 21 Women’s Soccer Edged by Late Minnesota Goal in Big Ten Quarterfinal

In a defensive match that saw 87 scoreless minutes, No. 21 Rutgers women's soccer (11-3-5, 7-1-3) fell short on a late Minnesota (10-8-1, 5-5-1) goal in a 1-0 decision in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.

"I am proud of the effort that this team gave all year. Today, we just lacked a little bit of an edge," said head coach Mike O'Neill. "I give Minnesota credit and their defense.

I understand about the refs but we have got to make things happen we had 3 shots on goal the whole game. Every time are girls received the ball their backs are to the goal there is no way you are going to create any offense that way

I understand your point, however, we play the way we play until we don't anymore, & can't keep getting screwed out of penalty kicks & other scoring opportunities in 1 goal games. Makes all the difference in the world.
